It breaks my heart to let you know that Dirty Little Secret has closed its doors. You can still find contact information about your stylist on the DLS Salon website. You can also ...

I started going to DLS a few years ago and haven't been in about a year. I called to schedule an appointment with Shannon (who is GREAT, by the way) and when I asked the guy who ...

Inspirational Facial 4/24/2007

""Bless me father, for I have sinned."" It had been about a year since my last facial, and my skin was in dire need of redemption...thank god I recently went to Dirty Little Secret's brand spankin' new spa and found my new esthetician, Joshua Lange. All I can say is that I can't stop looking in the mirror and touching my face - it feels so soft! How many ""hail mary's"" for that? Pros: Comfortable setting; professional, experienced, funny and fun esthetician Cons: What? more

Chai Josie has got a gift!!!! 4/18/2007

I have NEVER received a better haircut or a better color in the 30 years I have been alive! I have curly hair which a stylist has never quite been able to get a handle on. I have been to expensive salons and dirt cheap salons, none has been as good as Dirty Litle Secret! It is a very fun atmosphere that is extremely relaxing and very inviting. Chai Josie is amazing! She listened to exactly what I wanted and steered me in a direction that best suited my hair. I have never received as many compliments on the color and cut than I have since the month since I have had my hair done. So, please go to DLS and see Chai...you will not be disappointed!!! Pros: eclectic, fun, no-pressure, relaxing Cons: parking, location more

pleasant experience 3/21/2007

A patient at work had a really cute haircut so I asked her where she had her hair cut. She told me ""dirty little secret"". I decided to give it a try since I was not satisfied with the hoity toity place I'd tried before. It was a really nice experience. A young gal named Rebecca listened to what I said & cut my hair exactly as I wanted. The people there are friendly & layed back, obviously enjoying their job. I will definitely go back to DLS & look forward to their new spa. If it's open by mothers day I'm thinking ""girls day out"" with my mom & daughter. Pros: stylists, atmosphere, location Cons: had to wait 15 minutes past my appt. time more

sharp stylist, no attitude! 3/20/2007

I am new to portland and was reffered to dirtylittlesecret from a friend. I have had a lot of traumatic hair experiences in the past living in a small town. I thought the stylist at Dirtylittlesecret was very patient with me even though I didn't know what I wanted and she seemed to know what she was talking about.....I was so happy with how my hair turned out, it is the best cut and color I have had in a long time! It feels so nice to have the weight out and an actual shape to my hair. I will defianetly be back! Pros: great service and price Cons: she was running a little behind, but offered a drink while I wait more

the worst ever 3/9/2007

I tried this place after seeing it when i drive by. i received 3 bad haircuts from Rudy's and decided to go spend more money somewhere else. first of all, what is up with the attitude of the receptionist. i would fire her. with that part of my experience off to a great start i finally got in the chair. second of all, this place is a dump. i couldnt believe how dirty it was. i guess it's in the name. i was hoping my cut & color was going to make up for every other bad experiences i had so far. i was wrong. this place of wanna-be hipsters don't know anything about style or quality. it was one of my worst haircuts ever and definetley the worst color i ever got. don't go here, you will be very dissapointed. more

AWESOME!! 2/22/2007

My experiences at Dirty Little Secret Salon have been nothing short of amazing... The best part of going to DLS is the wonderful personalities that go there... never a dull moment!\r My only advice is to be patient when looking for an appointment, they seem to be easily booked..sometimes I have had to wait a few weeks! but its always worth it as Lucynda ROCKS!! ( the poor receptionist has quite a handful )\r Also, keep in mind that DLS will become a SPA soon as well... I can't wait to get my toes done..\r \r GO TO DIRTY LITTLE SECRET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Horrible Receptionist! 2/17/2007

I've been going to DLS for about 3-4 years. I've always loved my cut and color from Lucynda! Also, the envornoment was awesome. It was never a snooty salon and everyone was down to earth and awesome! Well Everything was great until they hired this guy for the front desk! He is always rude! I've dealt with it for awhile, but he's just getting way too full of himself now! He needs to get off his high horse! Sounds like he's a wannabe who couldn't make it in beauty school! Well it makes me so sad to say, but I am moving on from DLS because of his horrible attitude. Whenever I call to make an appointment or even when I'm in the salon I feel like that great atmosphere has been lost. Geez....Lucynda, why hire someone who's so mean to the clients? :( Pros: Lucynda's color abilities Cons: The staff...especially the receptionist more

Hooray for curls! And hooray for Amie! 1/23/2007

I *adore* Amie and everything else about Dirty Little Secret. The prices are reasonable. The location's convenient. The sytlists are knowledgeable. My favorite thing about Amie is how she talks me through what she's doing when she styles my hair so that I can get the look at home. The only thing I'm selfishly sad about is how popular DLS is getting! Call at least 6 weeks in advance for that appointment, ladies and gents. Pros: eco-friendly & hair-friendly products, service, price more

best haircut 1/20/2007

I tried Dirty Little Secret several years ago and have never gone anywhere else since! Shannon does an amazing job with my haircuts and really listens to what you want and actually looks at what kind of hair you have. I've been to many upscale salons like Arabella and Aveda with bad results--I ended up getting whatever haircut or dye job the stylist felt like giving me that day, such as platinum blond highlights on my brown hair which looked totally freaky and fake (not to mention not the subtle highlights I asked for)!! I vowed I would never be wooed by a name again! I love going to Shannon to get my hair done and plan on having her do my wedding hair. I highly recommend her to anyone with hair. Her artistic cuts are trendy and fun!! Relax knowing you are in the hands of an EXPERT. \r Pros: Great service Cons: Phone guy has got attitude. more

Bad receptionist 1/12/2007

I called to make an appointment. The receptionist made the appt. as fast as possible and then hung up on me while I was asking a question. I called back, and he apologized with an affected to cool to deal attitude. I decided I'd rather not go there and canceled the appt, which is a shame cause I've heard good things about the place.... more

Where the stylists listen and do what you - the customer wants! Very good with curly hair too!!!! 10/16/2006

Ok, so how many times have you gone into a place after waiting for what seems like forever to make sure what you're about to do is what you really want only to walk out disappointed. Guess what? Finally, there's a place to go where you can be certain to actually get what you want because the people working at DLS truly listen to the person sitting in the chair. \r \r I followed my hair person from another salon to DLS. She'd told me it was a cool place with a really good location (right by Lloyd Center) but of course, being the analytic that I am, I had to check it out for myself.\r \r You know what? Chai was right, the salon is cool in that it refuses to become pretentious - even though they have expansions in the works to incorporate full-on salon features which I'm personally excited about. Imagine getting your hair and nails done at the same time. Too cool!\r \r It's taken me a very long time to get online and write about DLS but not because I don't like the salon, quite contraire. I love it and the people who work there. Call me selfish if you will. Now that I've added to the bravos and cheers of the staff at DLS, I know I'll have to share my most precious Chai with anyone else who has curly hair or likes to play with color (Chai's one of the curly hair experts at DLS), Remember, never color at home, leave that to the pros.\r \r If you're looking for a salon that still listens to and caters to the customer - then check out Dirty Little Secret. Keep in mind there's plenty of really good stylists besides Chai (there, now I can still get in for last-minute appointments when needed).\r \r \r \r Pros: They know curly hair (important to me since mine's quite curly). Cons: Parking lot can get full but never not been able to find a place to park. more

Denise #%*@ing rocks! 8/25/2006

the gals there are all sweethearts, good people who get it...Lucinda, Amee, Shea, Shannon, all those girls are awesome. Denise (who also does Storm Large's hair) has been my hair lady for 4 years, and the reason is that she is so versatile, we have gone through lots of styles and lengths(which is tough with dude's styles), and she has fun making my hair look *good*. I have had highlights in my hair for the first time ever, for the past few months. I was hesitant about them because they tend to look to choppy and weird, but her job on those is so perfectly natural and she has cut with them so well this whole summer, that people still are shocked that they were bleached and colored in..in May. she is a great integrater of style; she just gave a friend of mine the most perfectly suited Joan Jett cut.. I like that she can get me done quickly, but I see them down-to-earth-pampering all the ladies there too. and the constantly changing, ever ecclectic art on the walls is very cool. after I get my hair done, I can pop next door to Tiny's and get a coffee, how convenient! more

YOU ARE THE FUNNEST SALON EVER!!! 8/22/2006

Just popped in to get a little treatment on my roots by that Sweeeet Lucynda and have to say that I dig the vibe y'all put out there at DLS! ROCK ON!\r XOXOXO Pros: The professional quality with out all of the snotty attitude Cons: NONE! I look great and had a beer! more

I had a great experience! 8/19/2006

Stephanie did a great job with cutting my dreads off. She was able to help me retain a lot more length than I had expected, and patiently combed out the tangled base of each dreadlock. Afterwards she gave me a great, subtle razor cut that I'm so happy with. Very pleasantly surprised! more

salon heros 8/15/2006

I have to be the first to admit that I have not had my roots done in 2 months. I had been camping, and was the most glamorous woodsman ever. My hair still looks terrific. Lucinda has been my stylist for 14 years. She and her peeps have kept me and my amigas hot, hot, hot. Even in the woods. \r \r Lucinda is always ready and willing to entertain my ever changing color with skill and grace. Her services are always comfortable and she keeps me laughing and entertained, even during long beauty sessions. My hard to please parents (also clients) love her. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! more

Not cut out to be what it is 8/14/2006

I had two haircuts here, the first was mediocre. My next cut I went to Bishops SE side and got a really bad haircut, so I returned to DLS for a second cut thinking another hair dresser would give me a great cut. I had the worst hair cut I have ever had (second worst was at Bishops). I asked for a professional layered look, and got a random length, unstylble punk rock hair cut. I am now going to another salon to get it ""fixed"". more

a ""tail"" of a bad salon experience 8/8/2006

I left the salon, went home, and found I had a ""tail"" not even a tail that could take me back to my asymetrical cut days in high school, my hair was uneven, I had a fat piece of hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, I also had a blonde patch that looked more skunk than punk. This is a secret I cannot keep to myself. Pros: funky art Cons: funky chuncky skunky hair more

Should be ""Best Little Secret"" 8/4/2006

DLS is one of the best salons I've ever gone to! (Lord knows I've been to a ton of them) I've been going to Amie for a year or so now and I'm in love with her work. She takes the time up front to talk to me about what I want, why I want it and how to get it. She doesn't assume anything, she asks me questions.... I love that! I have naturally curly hair and Amie is the Queen of curl. I've finally found someone that understands curly hair and how it behaves, believe me, there aren't very many stylists out there that 'get it'.\r \r Amie cuts/colors/highlights/tints my hair which is no quick process, but the time flies by because she, and the rest of the crew, know how to treat their customers. Everyone is very friendly and super knowledgable. Amie has stunned me numerous times with her knowledge of color, hair structure, and product knowledge. She doesn't just cut/color hair, she knows how/why products react to hair to be able to customize my visits.\r \r Definitley not one of the quick 'stop and chop' shops. If you're looking for someone to actually listen to your wants/desires and be able to communicate with you about the process, THIS is the place. \r \r Thanks to DLS and Amie, I'm FINALLY happy with my hair and I actually LIKE it! I can even go somewhere right after leaving without having to go home and 'fix' my hair like I used to have to do at other salons. They get it right... up front!\r \r KUDOS! Pros: Great service, great products, great cuts Cons: Can't think of a one. more

Hair cut 7/30/2006

My hair was great the first 3 or 4 times it was cut, but not so much this time. Just make sure you are clear with the desired results. more

My dirty little secret 6/15/2006

i recently went into DLS for a very scary transformation. (going from jet black hair to my natural red hair) Kristie and i went from the darkness into the light together. not once did i want to go screaming into the hills ( only when the bleach got a little intense) the result is magic. my hair looks amazing! Thank you so much. i am now a devoted DLS fan. more
