Best Alterations in Seattle 5/8/2010

I have brought many pieces of clothing from evening gowns to jeans to Diane's Alterations. Each time the service has been excellent, reasonable and with quality and care. I would recommend them to anyone who wants quality work done. Always precise and detailed. True professionals Pros: Excellent custom fitting more

No problems here... 8/5/2009

I took a dress that was too big in the shoulders to be altered. The sleeves had to be removed and replaced, and it was done PERFECTLY, even with the same gathers that the sleeves had prior to altering. The cost was 35 dollars, which seems a little expensive to me, but it was well worth it as the dress came out exactly like I wanted. I will certainly agree with the comments about the staff personality. It seems that they have some customer service problems, both of the women I interacted with were unfriendly and off-putting. Pros: pricey? Cons: not very personable. more

Terrible job 4/5/2009

I came in with a friend, we both needed costumes altered and fitted. The costumes run large so they can be altered to fit, that's the point. We went in and waited for about two minutes before someone wandered out and greeted us, rather snotty. We told her what we wanted, then she brought out Diane herself in her socks and Birkenstocks. I knew exactly what I wanted and told Diane that. The jacket would be a problem because of the ribbon stitching, but I asked my mother-in-law earlier (who sews as a hobby) and she said it can't be all that hard to take in. Diane looked it up and down and said with a curl of her lip ""If you wanted the jacket tighter, why didn't you just order the small?"" I showed her the tag, ""This IS the small."" She sighed and rolled her eyes and started pinning. The skirt was below the knee, and I needed it mid-thigh. Diane said ""This is going to cost you a lot of money, you know?"" I should have walked out right then, but was all pinned up at that point. My friend wasn't doing much better with her alterations woman. She said ""This is awfully short, you know."" I bent over and didn't end up showing the world my goodies, so it was fine. I even said jokingly ""I know how to sit like a lady and not show my goods to the world."" And I swear to God I think she mumbled something like ""I doubt they're that good."" O.O... So I go back a week later to get my costume (it's bright white) and they can't find it. I see it hanging out at the front of the section and told the woman ""There it is."" And she still can't find it. When she does she slaps it on the counter and I pay her more than what I paid for the costume originally. I get it home and try it on and the skirt is hemmed an INCH HIGHER on the right! Totally lop-sided. The jacket isn't nearly as taken in as we agreed, and in all the wrong places, and there are thread ends hanging out everywhere. I searched it high and low for any spots they may have dripped on it too, which wouldn't have shocked me, but it is blessedly free of stains. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Even my friend isn't too pleased with her results. They are snotty, rude, not helpful, and can't even do a simple hem properly. Pros: Cute couch Cons: Everything else more

RUINED MY DESIGNER JEANS AND RUDE TOO. 10/28/2008

Expensive designer jeans? I wouldn't trust Diane's. They ruined three pairs of my brand new designer jeans and refused to refund even my alterations fee. You can see their stitching above the original hem, the length is too short, and one leg is shorter than the other - on all three pairs, and after two re-dos! Were they apologetic? NOOOOOO! Instead they were extremely rude and insisted that I was in the wrong. The apparent ""boss"" lady told me that I was ""unreasonable,"" and refused to refund my money - even though she never even saw the jeans on me. I said, ""You didn't even see the jeans on me."" She said she ""didn't need to"" see the jeans on me; it was, she stated, inherently unreasonable for me to request a third re-do. Even though the individual tailor herself admitted (after much contention and after a second opinion from my friend) that all three pairs had one leg 1/4 inch longer than the other - she said no one would notice and therefore, apparently, it was wrong of me to mind the length discrepancy. The man in back also chimed in, stating that I was in the wrong since they have been ""doing alterations since before [I was] born."" (I guess I need to be older to have an opinion.) Now I am out nearly $600 for my jeans plus the $65 alterations fee. And I am feeling pretty beaten up after all three of the Diane's employees told me what a horrible person I am for wanting my expensive designer jeans done right. I asked Diane's for my jeans back and I am taking them to Nordstrom to see about fixing them. I wish I would have gone to Nordstrom in the first place!!! Pros: Parking Cons: Rude, Poor Quality, No Refunds more

Rude, poor craftsmanship 6/2/2008

I brought 2 pairs of pants in to get some basic hems done on them. I didn't consider the $10 price tag too pricey as others have complained about, but they did not do a great job at all. The jeans came out alright, though one leg was just barely shorter than the other. However, i tried checking out the back of my slacks by looking around. The lady, instead of telling me that the person wearing the pants can't actually tell the lengths of their own pants (twisting causes changes in the appearance of the clothes...it never came to me because I never handle clothes besides throw something on and go to school), she went ahead and told me that it was true that one leg was shorter than the other. So she measured them so that they would change a leg to match the other. THEN they told me it'd take another week, instead of getting it done quicker since it was their fault.\r Now whether or not the pants were incorrectly done the first time, I received terrible customer service when I returned to pick them up. I came with my girlfriend who has some knowledge about clothes and alterations because her mom taught her about some things to look for. My girlfriend took one look and pointed out the following:\r 1. They didn't bother to iron out the original crease after they changed one of the legs so it showed. \r 2. The hem stitching was very visible\r 3. Most importantly: they still weren't even\r The man at the store proceeded to patronize my gf and he actually started to get quite angry. At one point he just told her ""well you mark it and then we'll see how it turns out"". He said the original hem was fine...but if it was, why would the other worker tell me it wasn't? I just don't understand how they can't get 2 pant legs at least matching in length after 2 tries and then get angry at the customer for not liking their shoddy work. I left and will have to have my mom fix it.\r I was recommended by my sister for their 'good' price and 'decent' job, but I won't recommend it to anyone. Pros: Price? (maybe just for basic hems) Cons: Can't get the job done, r.u.d.e., doesn't put you on priority if THEY mess up, not professional more

OVERPRICED AND RUDE 4/3/2008

I checked this place out because it is so close to my house. I was completed shocked when I asked how much a straight hem would cost (nothing fancy--no cuffs--just a standard hem). I feel that this place and many others near this place charge too much because they can. I moved from San Diego in July, where I could get a hem for $7 (and people told me that I was paying too much there). Every place in my Seattle neighborhood now is between $14 and $18. Really, people need to know how places like this one are taking advantage of people. Cons: pricey more

Do not go here!!! 3/8/2008

I agree with the previous people who have said that the service is awful. I took my bras here to be taken in in the straps and band. She did a completely unthorough job of measuring me and seeing what it was I wanted. When I came back the bras were so tight I could barely breathe. Like the other person who reviewed, rather than display any sense of customer service she acted frustrated and aggravated with me, the customer, who had just had about 200 dollars worth of merchandise ruined. I was also leaving to study abroad soon so I was very pressed for time with this issue. Her fixing of the situation took at least 2 weeks, maybe more. I kept playing phone tag with her and came in multiple times but she was never in the store. Finally, without directly speaking to me she fixed the garments. Well, I had left a message with the one woman who does work there that one of the bras was perfectly fine and that I would pay for it when I came to pick up everything else. I came back and she had taken it back out. I was so infuriated with this experience and I ended up paying, and taking it to Windermere Cleaners to have it taken back in where they did a perfectly good job. Also, they are incredibly expensive and at the end of the worst customer satisfaction experience of my life I wasn't even offered a discount. Presumably because it's my fault - at least that's the way I was treated. Cons: Expensive, worst customer service possible more

Horrible Customer Service 3/6/2008

I arrived at 8:45am on a cold foggy morning to drop two jackets for alterations. Despite the fact that there were two employees inside who could have opened the doors a few minutes early, they refused to do so and insisted that I wait outside in the cold. What a luxury it must be to have so much business that they are able to treat potential customers this way. No way will I ever give them my business! more

Poor experience 1/27/2008

I?ve found the people to be lackluster and surly, They have difficulty with simple tasks that other tailors do without question. If an item was done wrong they are not happy with you the customer for not being happy with their poor workmanship. I would not recommend Diane's to anyone. more

TOO EXPENSIVE 11/27/2007

I had a few friends recommend Diane's alterations because it was close and they received alterations in a fairly decent time frame but warned me that she was expensive. I had no idea. I had a dress that needed to be let out and she charged me over $150. It was almost more than the dress. They also told me it would be done on a certain date and then it was changed a few more times. When I was voicing my anger with one of my colleagues she informed me that the same thing happened with her, too expensive and didn't deliver on time. Beware more

A little pricey but someone you can rely on. 8/7/2006

I have had great experience with Diane's alterations. While they are not the cheapest around, you can rely on the alteration being complete when they say it will be. They are located convenient to University Village so I'm sure you can find other errands to run while you are in the area. The business must be successful because she keeps hiring more tailors to keep up with the work! more
