Good, but I've had better 7/9/2006

My husband is a fan of Tom Douglas, so we decided to try out the Dahlia Lounge. It was a fairly average experience. None of the entrees jumped out at me - they all seemed to be a little too much ""cedar planked salmon with pomegranate"" - just things thrown together for the sake of being ""different"". Pros: Pleasant ambience, well executed dishes, excellent desserts Cons: Horrible servers, entrees that "try too hard", parking is terrible more

Yummy but rude 6/2/2006

The desserts are absolutely deeee-lish! The shortcake biscuits are to die for (but twice now I have bitten into a biscuit and found it semi-raw -- substitute chef, perhaps?)! The creme brulee is out of this world! But the staff is R-U-D-E. I go there almost every morning on my way to work and twice now they have been extremely rude just because I got there at 7:29 -- even though their open signs were out! The second time I waited outside until 7:30 and was ignored. Don't go there if you want a place to sit because there are only two tables and they are outside. Bakery is very small -- only room for maybe 3-4 people in line. The lunch sandwiches are decent. Similar to the prepackaged sandwiches at Starbucks. Good but not stellar. Tomato basil soup is good -- never had the bread, although it looks tasty. Pros: DESSERTS! Cons: Rude staff, Minimal seating more

Nice dinner, but just average 5/31/2006

Dahlia Lounge was our first dinner in our first night ever in Seattle. We had friendly service and although we arrived early, we were seated right away. Crab cakes were good, but what you'd expect. No fireworks. The infamous coconut cream pie was good, but not the best slice I'd ever had. The room is beautiful, the food was good, but it wasn't a standout meal for me. I'd look elsewhere if you only have a few nights in town. Pros: Ambiance, Friendly service Cons: Average food more

Disappointing... 5/21/2006

We had 6:00 weeknight reservations and needed to go to a 7:30 play after dinner. It took over an hour to get our entrees. The waitress walked back and forth, back and forth, but never offered an explanation why our food was so late. I was looking forward to the coconut cake for dessert but instead we had to wolf down our dinner and run to the theater. A memorable experience for all the wrong reasons. The food wasn't good enough to make me want to go back. Cons: Slow service more

DELICIOUS dessert 4/28/2006

we came here for dessert and LOVED their specialty - DONUTS. YUM. we also tried the creme caramel, pear sorbet and chocolate something. everything was delicious and our server was friendly and funny. we liked the decor and will definitely come back to try the dinner menu. Pros: mouthwatering dessert, good service, romantic Cons: bit pricey, parking more

Best Salmon I Have Ever Had 1/31/2006

The food at the Dahlia is to die for. Everything was cooked to perfection. I couldn't have asked for a better meal. Pros: Seafood, Ambience, Appetizers Cons: Parking more

Perfect for an Annivesary 8/7/2005

My husband and I recently went here for our first annivesary. We had a fabulous time. We informed the hostess that we would be celebrating there when we made the reservation, and when we were seated the waitress brought to glasses of champagne on the house. Everything we ordered was delicious and well presented (blue cheese and snap pea salad, salmon, crab cakes, cocunut pie and fried peach pie), and the server was very helpful in choosing wine to compliment. We were happy to find an annivesary discount on our check. Overall, we found the place very warm and welcoming and are looking forward to returning. Pros: knowledgable staff, delicious food, romantic more

Never been treated like THAT before 7/31/2005

When I have an underpar experience, I chalk it up to a server's bad night or something, but I have never been treated like THAT before. The hostess or whomever gave us the worst greeting ever ""Have you SEEN our menu?"" We responded yes with reluctancy as she turned around and asked ""Are you going to have dinner? You really SHOULD look at the menu"" We all looked at this woman in disbelief. She was talking about the prices perhaps, our maybe our ages, 25-32 But this was unbelievable. But our waitress too asked if we were going to have dinner. what? before asking us for drinks or anything. Never had we had our personal integrity and overall worthiness judged so quickly and rudely to completely change our mood and completely ruin our experience! I finally just ordered a slice of coconut pie, and NO I did not order dinner! Pros: close to downtown Cons: not the best in town more

Another great Tom Douglas restaurant 3/7/2005

Went to Dahlia for a date, and got crab cakes and five-spice duck, sea bar sampler and potstickers. Crabcakes were served with sauteed vegetables, including chayote, an interesting kind of squash. Different! Fun. Duck was served with curried fried rice with little pieces of sausage, and a side of what tasted like papaya chutney - yum! Our server suggested delicious wines that complemented our dinners perfectly. Tried some of the belgian fries, served with curry ketchup and a grainy mustard aioli - awesome! Served the fries with some thinly shaved red onion on top, which matched the flavor of the curry ketchup PERFECTLY. Desserts were caramel flan and freshly-made doughnuts, shaken up with sugar and cinnamon in a bag right next to the table. The doughnuts were served with seasonal preserves (pear) and marscapone. Delicious. Go here if you're not afraid of food. Pros: parking ($) close by, fresh, local food, unique, innovative Cons: pricey! more

Not what I had hoped for.... 1/19/2005

I was very disappointed! The drinks were nothing out of the ordinary- apple martini....yawn! The small plates were not very good at all- the mackeral was over cooked, the octopus was flavorless and the crab with mussel sauce was weird tasting. I ordered the venison which was the highlight of the evening, although I felt that the chef was trying to hard to serve eclectic dishes instead of serving flavors that mesh. The service was horrible! Our waitress was completely indifferent to us and the other tables around us. We were seated by the window with an awful draft. I will not return to Dahlia. Pros: Desserts Cons: , Boring Cocktails, Drafty more

mr. 12/13/2004

Although I'm sure that some will find Tom Douglas' style a bit experimental, this restaraunt has been churning out consistently fantastic food for years. Not for the standard steak and potatoes crowd, but if you are looking for something unique, with fresh local ingredients, no one does it better than Dahlia. more

to each his own 10/23/2004

I am surprised at the negative reviews since our dinners have always been v.g. to excellent. We do order wine, but no dessert. If there is any neg., it is that sometimes my husband gets indigestion afterwards! Even tho they are always so busy, we have been seated right away/ in a reasonable amt of time (with a reservation) and have received snappy, professional service. We are fussy about both. I do not think of Dahlia Lounge for fish--even tho another reviewer pans it and then suggests Elliott's. I have never eaten fish at Dahlia Lounge but everything else has been v.g. to excellent. Try roasted chicken or lamb. Pros: well-conceived dishes, quality- preparation, service Cons: , noisy/busy more

One of the worthy Belltown restaurants 6/11/2004

This is one of the few Belltown restaurants I return to again and again. As a vegetarian, the selection is not that good, but what they have is always very tasty. The service is usually very good, and I always like the atmosphere. Pros: Very good food more

One of a Kind 6/10/2004

Whether you are looking for an afternoon treat or a nice bread to accompany dinner - Dahlia Bakery is one of the sweet finds of Seattle. Not only are the staff overly friendly and helpful, but the simplistic details of providing customized ribbon, greeting cards or a bag of swedish fish to embellish any purchase definitely reminds us why a visit to this Bakery is a sweet treat. more

Great experience! 5/26/2004

Have been to the Dahlia 3 times first 8 pm on a Sat and they were full so called Palace Kitchen to save us a seat at the bar (which they gladly did), second sat at the bar and had the most delicious appetizers and drinks ever (and met Tom Douglas), and the third for a dinner. When I made the reservation I expressed concern over making our concert in time. The hostess said shed make sure the kitchen knew. When we arrived they commented they knew we had a timetable and the waitress knew as well. Our entrees came out quickly but everything was cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable. All 3 of us LOVED our food. And the creme caramel was out of this world. I still cant understand why someone would rate this poorly. Tom Douglas knows restaurants! Pros: Inventive Food, Great Service, Best desserts more

Such a disappointment 11/25/2003

We had heard that Dahlia Lounge was 'the place to go' and were looking forward to our meal. Such a disappointment! The menu was small, the food was so-so and the prices were way too high. Our waiter was very nice and helpful but it still didn't make up for the sub-standard food. more

One of Seattle's Best-Defintely Not! 8/8/2003

Our visit to the Dahlia Lounge was actually one of our worst dining experiences anywhere. We sat down to eat dinner around 9 pm on a Saturday and were informed that the appetizer I wanted to order, the entree my partner wanted to order and the dessert I wanted were not available. This was appalling. What was more appalling was the bland and rubbery free range chicken that we were forced to order since so many things were missing. Our server was so rude I wonder how he keeps his job. I have no idea why or how critics tout this as one of Seattle's best restaurants. Pros: nice decor Cons: terrible service, items not available, bland menu more

No thanks 5/30/2003

Althugh many of reviews say that this restaurant is one of Seattle's best, I didn't find that this restaurant was anything special. The lighting was very dim making it hard to see anything. There were many children around us and the food wasn't anything to get excited about. For the price that you pay, you are probably better off hitting a different restaurant. This is another restaurant that I found catered to the older wealthier crowd, so if you are in your early 20's, this isn't really a friendly place to be. Also, if you are a dessert fan, the menu isn't that wonderful, we even considered heading to Roy's after dinner for some dessert. more

A perfect meal!!! 3/7/2003

We had the most fantastic time at the Dahlia this last Sunday night. It's all we've talked about since. Paul, the chef, was awesome. Not to mention our waitress. The food was UNREAL!!! The lamb cheeks (loved the dishes they came in), the oysters, that hamachi concoction with the miso, my very first taste of foie gras (by the way, oh my GOD!!! New favorite delicacy), that poke & THAT DUCK, the crabcakes & the short rib. It all was incredible. No... incredible doesn't do justice to how good I felt after that meal. Have you ever felt completely, perfectly satisfied and yet... still wanted just a little more? Just one more bite... one more glass of wine. So happy to be with family & friends Sad that the evening was winding down. THAT was dinner at the Dahlia this last Sunday. What an amazing night. Thanks to everyone. SD Pros: The food, The sevice, The food Cons: parking (dt, duh) more

RUDE 1/23/2003

My husband and I had been looking forward to trying out Dahlia. The night was rainy and I had on a blue rain coat with a hood. When we stepped inside the empty entrance way and partially full restaurant at 9pm. The man behind the host desk quickly informed my husband that our table wouldn't be available for an hour or so and that there were no spaces at the bar. The man was quite possibly the rudest and most condescending customer service person that I have ever encountered. I can't comment on the food because we certainly didn't stay. Apparently if you wear a rain coat you aren't chic enough to eat at Dahlia. more
