Best

We heard about this bakery from the next door Serious Pie waitress who raved about the coconut cream pie. So, of course, we had to try it! Though, when we went it was already clos...

Worst

Althugh many of reviews say that this restaurant is one of Seattle's best, I didn't find that this restaurant was anything special. The lighting was very dim making it hard to se...

The bread, man, the bread... 12/30/2002

While I enjoy their desserts, etc, what makes the Dahlia Bakery stand out is their bread. Whether you call it Bauernbrot, Pan del Pueblo or Pain de Campagne, you find it everywhere in Europe and the Dahlia's is as good as it gets, in this country, anyway. more

Too little for too much 12/27/2002

Food was good. We had 2 appetizers, the ""signature"" recipes....potstickers & crabcakes. The order for crabcakes was 1 piled high with assortment of nicely done vegetables about $9.00. The potstickers were 3 @ $3.00 ea. No potsticker on earth is worth $3.00! I make better crabcakes & I can find them on the plate without having to dig to find them. I thought at anytime this was highly overrated & overpriced let alone at noon. The presentation was beautiful, but there are lots of beautifully presented dishes in Seattle for better value. Pros: lovely presentation Cons: price, value, parking more

Nice place. Good food. Filling. 12/18/2002

Dahlia is one of my favorite places to eat, on dates and with groups. The service is excellent. The food is yummy. I've had a couple of dishes I didn't absolutely love, but for the most part the food is great. It's a bit expensive, but filling. Split something and order and ap. Pros: very good food, great service, beautiful decor Cons: pricey more

Overpriced, overrated 12/16/2002

First time at this 'old' establishment, a supposed staple of Seattle seafood, and it was frankly disappointing. We had ordered 2 orders of Hamachi poke, for $4.50 apiece, and received two small (small!) ""soy-sauce dipping saucers"" of diced Hamachi fish, similar in size & consistency of relish. Then ordered entrees of crab cakes (which was good), and seared sturgeon (OK...). Ended with dinner of 1 coconut cream pie (OK, that was good...) and 3 Pellegrino Aranciatas for drinks, and the total tab (with tax +tip) ~$100. Jeez, with prices like this, who can afford to eat out more than once a month? Overrated, over priced, overall a disappointment, much like Mr. Douglas' other restaurants... Pros: dark dining Cons: price, price, price more

It's all about the chef name 11/15/2002

My Seattle dinner club had dinner here about 8 weeks ago. We found the service to be fairly diffident and seemed to have the attitude that they were doing us a favor by serving us. Food is fine but overpriced. They strive for artistic and unusual presentation instead of striving for amazing flavor. I wouldn't go again unless someone else was dying to try it and picking up the bill. I'd rather spend my money at El Gaucho, Al Boccalino, Sazerac or the Brooklyn. Pros: Good dessert, Good drinks Cons: Better food elsewhere, Parking downtown, service more

the best! 9/25/2002

What a great experince nice folks on the phone and at the door. Service was professional and friendly. Food was AWESOME - best meal I have had in a long time. No wonder they are always so busy! more

Consistently Good 9/22/2002

Each bite is full of flavor, the crab cakes are outstanding along with the Somosa appertizers. The coconut cream pie is a great signature dessert. On the flip side the Halibut was dissapointing (bland), but that seemed to be the exception. The service varies-all are professional yet some make you feel more welcome than others. Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Price, Spotty Service more

Where's the flavor? 9/5/2002

Food was bland and flavorless or bad on three visits. Waitress shouted our drink order across the room to th bartender. Tried the potstickers which don't hold a candle to the average teriyaki place around here. Lamb was too gamey. White bean soup was tepid and tasted like it had been poured our of a can. Crab cakes tasted like they'd had an unfortunate drowning incident in some anise. Dinner the first time cost over $100 without a bottle of wine! more

Dahlia Delish 8/22/2002

The dahlia Lounge has been one of my favorites in Seattle for years. The food is inventive, delicious and dependable. When I crave my favorites they never fail to be as good as hoped for. more

Good Food 8/5/2002

It was better before they moved. The bread salad is normally really great, was a little oily when we had it this last time. (first time since the move). Potstickers had a spicier sauce I think than another reviewer had. My crispy duck w/ 5 Spice BBQ was to die for- my boyfriend's beef was pretty good, but not very inspired, and the mushrooms as a side dish didn't cut it. Wine list is small, but comprehensive. Service has always had a little bit of a superior attitude. Drinks were great, lighting was good. Perhaps a little pricey. Pros: creative, usually very good, quality Cons: pricey, limited menu selectio more

It's Tom.... 7/23/2002

Another Tom Douglas restaurant, what can you expect but to have a wonderful dining experience & great food. Seattle owes Tom alot! Pros: Really fresh, Very creative, Good selection Cons: Sometimes busy, Can be loud more

Best Coconut Cream Pie!! 7/23/2002

The Dahlia Lounge is a quick walk from our favorite hotel, The Mayflower Park, and for a light meal, complete with dessert, we enjoy the crabcakes followed by the coconut cream pie. Pros: Romantic, Cozy Cons: Expensive more

Too many flavors 7/18/2002

The food was exotic. I little too exotic for my taste. They used alot of spices and flavors that I didn't necessarily thought complimented each other. My boyfriend's lamb didn't taste right. It was gamey but the server had some more lamb cooked for him without question and was very curtious. The ambiance was terrific. I think I enjoyed that the most. My summary- I did not like the food. Pros: Ambiance, Service Cons: Food more

Not Great, Not Bad 7/13/2002

The menu is too limiited and very hit and miss. The wine list is extremely limited though reasonable priced. I found the food and ambiance to be much better before they moved into their new location. more

It's good, ya know. 6/23/2002

I thought my food was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever tasted, but whatever. How many things are? It was severely yummy, and... of course... the coconut cream pie WAS the best I've ever tasted. The dishes are inventive and flavorful, although a little over worked sometimes. However, the food here is better than 95% of restaraunts around. more

Not at all disappointed 6/21/2002

I thought the food was great. The desserts were a real stand out. The ambience was great, with deep rich colors and high backed booths that afford a little privacy and cuts down the noise considerably. It's definately pricey, but, if you are on a budget, it's just not the place for you. I've been twice and found the service good and very unobtrusive. It's a busy, popular restaurant, so make reservations and don't just show up and complain that you got a bad table because you were ""under 30"" or ""wearing khakis."" Pros: delicious food, beautiful restaurant, good service Cons: parking's a challenge, expensive more

Cuisine Hath No Pretense 6/12/2002

Truly one of the more disappointing dining experiences in Seattle. I fail to understand how Dahlia Lounge continues to attract such a large clientele. The halibut was anything but, the service was comatose, but I will say the drinks were spot on. If you decide to visit this establishment, go for the drinks, avoid the cuisine. It's grossly overpriced... and over appreciated. Pros: Good Drinks, Ambience Cons: Service, Overpriced more
