Not Good 8/28/2003

I went to Chuy's once, never again. If your looking for authentic Tex-Mex, you will not find it here. Everything just tasted so commercial. I would much rather go to a place like Enchiladas Y Mas then here. The prices were far to high too. Pros: Good Service Cons: Expensive, Servings too big, Food is no good more

Just OK 7/19/2003

On a Saturday afternoon this place was packed, usually a good sign, but when we were through the reason was obvious...it's a good place a take kids, i.e. a place where screaming kids won't get noticed and you don't have to worry about them not being happy with the food. Also, the food is cheap, it's near the center of Austin, and it's near the park. These are the things going for it, but taken as an eating experience, there are a lot better places to go if one is willing to travel 1/2 mile. The food was just OK. We won't be going back. Pros: Cheap, Good Location, Good for Kids Cons: Mediocre food, Crowded, Insufficient parking more

Elvis Reincarnated 5/3/2003

True, this restaurant is considered probably the best in Austin, but Trudy's taste is much more unique and the service is better. If you are into Tex-Mex, this is a great dive to try out especially if you are into Elvis memorabilia. If you are into T-shirts, you must purchase one. They are some of the coolest ones you'll find. more

Not My Favorite 3/25/2003

I am new to Austin, and heard a lot about Chuy's, so made it one of my first stops. I couldn't believe there was a 30 minute wait on a Wednesday at 7pm. I think I would rate it ok, average, but not great. Some items were good, nothing to knock your socks off, some items were just bad. Had good service tho. Was very loud in there too. Decor was lame, I am sick of seeing things stuck to the ceiling. I would also not rate this as ""cheap eats"". more

Chuy's - Good despite the people 2/7/2003

If you can put up with Austinite's overvaluing themselves, then Chuy's has got to be one of the best places to go and hang out in Austin. Even if you don;t like the people on Texas Martini will help put that in to perspective. Others in Austin have tried to duplicate it (There are plenty), but the original is here. Seems fitting for a resaurant that prizes originals such as Elvis to have some of there own. Put your face in to a ""Big as Yo' face Burrito"" or any of the other great flavors available. Just have fun knowing that no other state (or many other Texas cities) can you find food and drinks this good, and keep your wallet when you leave. more

Ashamed to be an Austinite 2/7/2003

Why does Austin LOVE cheesey corporate-style restaurants? I think the category was best restaurant, not best place to wait three hours for mediocre food and horrible service. So they make fresh tortillas; there are a million other places that do the same. I can't believe Taco Bell didn't win. Afterall, they are cheap, brightly colored, and you can get soda fresh from the machine. more

Yummy 2/6/2003

Chuy's has great burritos and sopapillas. The service however is unpredictable. Parking is also sometimes a problem. However, the atmosphere is great. I would recommend. Cons: Crowded, Bad Parking more

chuy changa 2/1/2003

Goood food and an informal atmosphere, with good service. tasty Margaritas more

I don't think so..... 2/1/2003

It's just not what it used to be. It's more atmosphere than food quality. It's also just around from the reputation it used to have of really good food. Pros: atmosphere, location Cons: service, prices, food quality more

Chuys rox!! 2/1/2003

Chuys is the best. My family and I have been going their for a loooonng time and we know just about all of the people their. I have been going their since i was born. My mom even went their when she was pregnant with me. Chuy's is the best restraunt in Austin. Pros: Food, People, Fun more

OH NOOOOOOOO not CHUY'S 1/31/2003

Well...it's loud, all right. So loud you can't have a conversation while you're there. And the portions are big...but the food is TERRIBLE. It's not Mexican, for sure, although you might think it is if you've never eaten real Mexican food. And as Tex-Mex goes, it's bad, bad, bad. If you can stand waiting for an hour, or two, for a table...if you can stand really a really awful ambience...if you can stand yellow cheese-sour-cream, flavorless piles of pandering-to-the-popular-taste NON-Mexican food, combined with a decibel level guaranteed to send you over the edge~Chuy's is the place for you. Cons: loud, crowded, bad food more

No Way 1/31/2003

not even in top ten for Mexican food in Ausatin Pros: Ambience, Scenerey Cons: Parking, Food Quality more

Tex-mex good, Mexican bad! 1/14/2003

As Tex-Mex food goes Chuy's is alright. The only thing I really about Chuy's are there Texas Martini's (even then, they are watered down) and there Jalepeno ranch dressing...mmmm! But they should not call what they cook, Mexican food! There refried beans are so dry, you could plaster sheet rock with it! Being hispanic I don't like their food. I suggest Amaya's in Capital Plaza for Mexican food. Atmosphere is cool though. Pros: cool atmosphere, friendly service, good texas martini Cons: loud, food is not all that more

Horrible food 1/13/2003

I expect to have at least something that was made from scratch, not just assembled on a conveyor belt. Very disappointed, absolutely horrible. more

I have had Much better 1/5/2003

My husband and I visited Chuy's for the first time on my birthday. Since we heard this place was awsome we figured it would be an excellent birthday celebration. It however was not! We waited 30 at our table just to get a hello. About an hour later when our food arrived it was not only cold, but not what we order! They however did send us free coupons to dine with them again, but I'd rather not visit hell twice, especially voluntarily. more

stop tortilla fraud! 1/4/2003

Where are the homemade tortillas? Recipes are always modified by chefs, that individual expression is fine. However, the tortilla is basic. It's the first thing your mouth tastes. It's either ""homemade"" or it's wrong! The next time that I NEED to be at Chuy's, I'll have a ham sandwich or salad maybe. Pros: dos xx, shiner bach, bud light Cons: fake tortillas, manufactured tortilla, tortilla fraud more

Why all the negative comments? 12/29/2002

I can't understand the bad comments about Chuy's food. My husband will not eat Tex-Mex at any other rest. My kids love it too. The food is great, well seasoned, huge portions, fresh ingredients, all white chicken meat(an absolute necessity for me),kid friendly,etc.etc. The wait(especially on weekends)can be long so if you don't won't to wait, go on an off hour. I will say without a doubt that my location of choice is Round Rock. I know people that can't go a week without their Chuy's ""fix"". Pros: Kid-friendly, Varied Menu, Fun for Birthdays Cons: Wait Times more

The Best Bar None 12/25/2002

Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken...that's all I need to say:) Pros: Elvis kitsch decor, cool wait staff, vintage photo booth Cons: unpredictable parking, toilets small more

Chuy's Reigns Supreme 12/6/2002

Chuy's is a weekly visit for me. Excellent tex-mex and a pleasurable experience everytime has made mea regular. The fajitas are grand, the Chuychanga (Chuy's take on a chimichanga), and the enchiladas are all recommended. If eating chips ask for CREAMY JALAPENO. but be warned, its addictive. If at the Duval location look for Tiny, he is a helluva waiter. If in Round Rock look for Rhonda, she does an awesome job as well. If you want Austin culture and some good food go to Chuy's but do be prepared to wait as it's very popular and parking can be hard to come by. Pros: inexpensive, great food, excellent service Cons: parking, wait for table more

Disappointed 12/5/2002

with all the buzz that goes on about how good chuy's is, i was really disappointed after my lunch there. all the food was just plain and bland. nothing stood out at all. if chuy's didnt give to charity and sponsor the christmas parade, i would have been even more upset that my money went down the drain. i dont see what the big deal is about the place? and i think our waiter smoked a joint before he waited our table. Pros: neat decor, cheap Cons: bland food, mediocre service, crowded more
