Fremont Sushi Find 3/23/2006

I had never even heard of Chiso sushi in Fremont until a friend told me about it recently but was pleasantly surprised to find it met all of my sushi needs. I dined there for lunch only but the place was packed (a sign of a good place usually). We ordered mostly nigiri and the fish was very fresh and portions were appropriate. The miso had the right flavor with the right amount of tofu and green onions. The service was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was very comfortable, cozy even with candles on each table and cushions to soften the wooden benches against the wall. I'll be back to Chiso and think it's competitive with all the best sushi spots in Seattle. more

Sushi in Fremont 1/31/2006

This place is ok. I don't think the sushi is good enough to justify the prices. If I'm going to spend a lot of money on sushi, I want to go somewhere with incredible sushi! That being said, there is probably a lot more expensive sushi to be had in Seattle. I've only been here once, and it was just ok, so we haven't bothered to go back since there are so many other options. There was a lot of variety on the menu, and lots of different rolls you can order, and there's even a whole section on vegetarian sushi. They have their menu online, so check it out. Whatever you order will probably be good, so at least you don't have to worry about that. more

Nice place but not the best 10/11/2005

Before I really got into sushi I loved Chiso's. It's a beautiful restaurant with really fantastic vegetarian specials. The prices are a little steep for the "real thing", though. Still, if you're already in Fremont, and want to impress a date, check it out! more

I've tried a number of sushi places in Seattle and elsewhere, and this one stands at the top of my sushi experiences. It's not your typical Japanese place, but a rather upscale take on sushi, with some pretty creative rolls. Everything from appetizers to nigiri and rolls is excellent! I can't remember the price range, but as far as sushi goes it wasn't too pricey. I definitely recommend this place! more

Hard to find and extremely good 9/8/2005

OK, so any restaurant at the corner of 35th and Fremont should be easy to find, but somehow Chiso is easy to overlook. They even have a gaudy sidewalk sign out front that says 'Sushi' and has an arrow pointing down to the restaurant. The sushi is extremely good. The staff is warm and friendly, and the decor is comfortably urban. Highly recommended. more

Our Most Favorite Sushi Joint In Seattle 5/10/2005

Since the restaurant opened about 5 years ago, the place has been serving great sushi together with other great dishes. We are impressed with their consistency; their food is consistently good. We haven't come across any dish which we found disappointing. (I am a tough critic for Japanese food as I am a Japanese native.) If you are lucky enough to sit close to the owner-chef, Taichi-san, you can ask him the catch of the day (his recommendation of the day in the fish selection). The place has also successfully created a friendly atmosphere in which ordering sushi is not something stuffy and difficult. You can enjoy nice cozy ambience with soothing jazz in the background. more

Above Average Sushi, Good Atomosphere, Great Gari... 5/7/2005

My impression about sushi here is above average as I have been fortunate enough to live in a city where getting good sushi is not a challenging task. You can say I am spoiled with good sushi, but then I have no negative comment about sushi at Chiso, neither. What I am impressed about more is that atomosphere there is great. I'd recommend to use this restaurant as a business lunch, a casual blind date, or a dinner date with a loved one. But wait, what I am impressed about the most is their Gari (pickled ginger). I usually avoid eating too much Gari as they usually come in an artificial color like pink, but this Gari is different! It has kept the *real* ginger color and taste great! Worth trying sushi for their free Gari ;-) more

good Japanese food in Fremont 4/30/2005

Chiso is a little bit pricey, but you can get really good quality sushi and other Japanese foods here. it is located in the Fremont area, and it has a really nice atmosphere inside too. if someone asks me where is a good japanese restaurant in the Seattle area i recommend Chiso. more

Chiso for sushi - a strong choice 3/4/2005

My favorite Seattle sushi place is Chiso in Fremont. Maybe you can argue that some other place is better in this or that way, but Chiso wins best all-around in my book. The environment is cozy, yet stylish. The sushi is fresh and delicious, the service prompt and courteous, it's not hard to get a table (unlike some places), and parking is no big challenge. Plus Fremont is fairly central (at least for north Seattle folks). Plus it's the best quality to price ratio I know (excellent sushi for mid-level prices). more

Hot Like Wasabi = WAPAP that's rocking fish 9/23/2004

Chiso has such amazing sushi - ask proprietor Tai Chi to hook you up with some of the freshest yellowtail in town, and the fatty tuna (toro)?? If people call you moneybags, don't order anything else!!! MMMM. delectable - you won't get to see a movie afterwards though because you'll spend all your dough. but you won't be sorry! more

I love that "late" in Seattle is 10 pm - isn't that sad? But yes, Chiso is open till 10, and the sushi is exceptional. Not cheap, but worth every penny, and the staff is just awesome. Can someone make a listing for restaurants open AFTER 10 pm? :) more

Fresh,delish and friendly sushi right in Fremont 6/14/2004

TaiChi, the owner and sushi chef extraordinaire, has created a very cool, hip sushi joint in the heart of Fremont. His staff is cool, his restaurant is cool and he keeps his cool while creating amazing sushi pieces and rolls. This place is open late too- I think they serve dinner until 10pm! Don't miss the salmon he gets fresh - white salmon, sockeye,etc. And be sure to save room for a mochi- delish! more
