We Always go to Joe and we refer everyone to him. He is down to earth, tells you what you need and what you don't! Never a stressful situation, always fun and best of all he rocks! Exceptional service!! 11/16/2011

Wow! I am completely impressed by the friendly, professional service staff at Carter Subaru (Shoreline). The folks there have been around for years and really know my Legacy. My questions about maintenance were answered thoroughly and while I was there I found that the service department is under new management; resulting in new maintenance packages that are less expensive! Happy to have such a great place to go for service, thanks guys! more

1st Purchase from Carter 7/6/2011

Purchased my 1st car from Joe Spitz at Carter last week and it couldn't have gone any smoother. Joe ruins the profile of the "typical" car purchasing wasn't painful and drawn out. I told Joe the price I had in mind, said he'd run it up the flag pole and he was back in less then 5 minutes and I had a price that worked for me. I've purchased many cars over the years and had enough contact with the cheesy and disingenuous salesperson to know that Joe is the rare exception. Joe's a straight shooter and if it wasn't for the fact I had lost me drivers license on the way there he would have had me out of the dealership with my car in about 1 hour. Couldn't be happier. more

Best car-buying experience we've ever had! 2/26/2011

Bought my second Subaru today--went to Carter Subaru in Shoreline, through David North. I found David to be an excellent salesman--friendly, polite, and completely appropriate. No high pressure, no smarmy oily salesman behavior. I've purchased 6 cars over the last 30 or so years and this was by far the easiest and most comfortable purchase I have ever made. I feel like I got an excellent deal and didn't have to claw my way to a resolution. David North and I communicated via internet for a few days before I could get over to the dealership. When I changed my mind about the car I thought I wanted, he had no problem looking at multiple cars and working through the process of finding what I wanted--even though it was 25 degrees and snowing and he'd forgetten his coat! Travis Bleken was very helpful during the financing. Everything was easy going and completely honest and above board. If you're smart enough to buy a Subaru, you're smart enough to buy one here. Be sure to talk to David North. more

Service FAIL, then robocall 11/3/2010

Went for service there a couple times. Not impressed, took my business elsewhere. Now months later I just got a long robocall message from them trying to sell me something. If you decide to do business with them DO NOT give them your phone number. more

Terrible place to buy a car. I bought a brand new 2003 outback legacy wagon, and it is a lemon. the head gasket has gone out twice, the mechanics dont know what they are doing, ive had to take the car to other mechanics to fix the mess that carter mechanics have made. Customer service is terrible, the employees are rude, snotty, and totally ignore the fact that i spent over $20,000 on a car that is a lemon. carter subaru has lost a life long and loyal fan. shame on them. i suggest going somewhere else to buy a car. buying from carter subaru is one of the biggest mistakes that i have ever made. more

Do not have service work done here!!! 1/4/2009

My wife and I purchased a 1999 Forrester two years ago. It was a one owner car with ALL maintenance history included. I decided to have the maintenance done at Carter since they are the Subaru dealer in my area and they should know my car best. I was wrong about that. Even with their quick lube service, I find that I have to schedule it so that I can get a loaner. No waiting for oil changes. In 2008 we had the 150K head gasket and oil seal service done that Subaru's typically require at that mileage. That was another HUGE mistake. After we got our Forrester back from Carter it was consuming 1 quart of oil every 500 miles driven!!! This car never burned any oil prior to the service. We took our car back 4 times within the first 2 months after our service to be told that they would take it apart to inspect the quality of the work, but that it would cost us to have them correct the work and put it back together. That is unacceptable and I let them know this. The only other suggestion that Carter had for me was to "just make sure the oil doesn't get low" if I wanted to save money and not have them take it apart!!!! Carter may have a great selection of cars, but that is all they have. I have an independent shop servicing my Subaru that I know and trust and they do it with the SAME factory parts at a considerably less rate and with the same parts/service warranty that Carter offers. Dealerships are there for one thing: sell cars. They are not there to service them. This was a $3000k mistake that I hope no one else will make. more

Great sales experience at Carter Subaru 7/13/2008

Last weekend I bought a used Ford Focus at Carter Subaru. The sales guy, David Wood, was excellent -- went out of his way to make the whole sales process go smoothly for me. He was straightforward, personable and professional. They gave me a great price, and David minimized the usual "let me talk with my manager" negotiation rigamarole by giving me honest answers from the get-go. My car was pristine, and I would highly recommend David Wood if you're looking for a new or used car. He was great! more

I had the worst experience with their internet manager. I wanted to discuss and negotiate via email, so I contacted the internet manager. Talk about thick, he continually demanded I call him. I stood on my ground, and continued via email, then I got this: "If you don't have time or interest to call, as much as I'd like your business there just isn't much I can do." He apparently doesn't understand that an Internet Manager should be amenable to discussion via email. I looked up this person on their web site. He's been there for a decade, probably has dust on him. It's time for him to move on. He isn't doing their business any favors. more

I brought my Impreza in to do some maintenance and also asked them to secure my floor mat as well as look at the jammed cupholder. I thought these would be done as a favor, but they charged me $25 to (temporarily!) secure the floormats and $45 to just grease the cupholder! Another time, my A/C was shot and repaired for $600. It turned out that only fixed it for a couple times. I had to bring it back for another $600 repair on a different component. Makes you wonder if the first component didn't need to be replaced. I don't think Carter is an honest shop. They're in it to bleed you of every dollar you have! The only pluses are their loaner cars and friendliness? more

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but appear perversely proud of the fact that they don't have a computerized scheduling system. I've had to repeat the reason for my appointment multiple times for a single visit. more

Outback purchase at Carter Subaru 10/29/2005

I recently decided to buy a used Subaru Outback. I visited Judy's Book to get some input on which dealer to go to. I found several positive reviews for Carter Subaru, including a specific endorsement for Carlos Ramos, one of the salesmen there. I called ahead and set up an appointment with Carlos and ended up buying an Outback that day. Carlos was very pleasant to deal with and I am very satisfied with my purchase. Their price on the 2004 Outback I bought was below book values that I found on the Internet, although the amount they gave me for a trade-in was a little less than what I had expected based on my research. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and would recommend Carlos at Carter Subaru. more

Good Buys, So-So Service Later 8/17/2005

We bought an Outback from Carter Subaru two years ago. The buying experience was fine, and the car salesmen did a good job. However, since then, my experience with the service department has not been good. Two co-workers related the same impression with Carter as well. All three of us appreciated the initial sale. But the poor attitude of the service department, including its managers, leaves much to be desired. more
