Honest service you can trust! 3/13/2014

Gateway Transmissions worked on brakes and replaced a transmission for me. Most auto places give you a big list of stuff that many or may not really need to be done. You don't have to worry about that with Gateway. They are honest and won't try and sell you stuff you do not need. more

Fair and honest 3/12/2014

Gateway Transmissions replaced the struts on my car and they fixed an electrical problem. They done maintenance ever since and I am pleased with the work that they do. more

Quick, reliable, and efficient 2/14/2014

Gateway Transmissions is just wonderful. Bill and Max are honest guys who really know their stuff. They did very good work for me and the prices were extremely reasonable. The work was done on time and I haven't had to bring my vehicle back for anything other than oil changes. They put in a brand new engine motor for my truck and rebuilt the rear end with great care. Everyone there is professional, friendly, and helpful. They don't try to upsell you and they don't use confusing jargon. I'd strongly recommend them. more

Terriffic service, on-time 2/14/2014

First contact with Oak Harbor Gateway was 2006 - new F350 getting its first tranny service. Since then, nobody else gets any of our vehicles for transmission work. In fact, there is very little that they won't fix on any of our cars. If all you want is "fix it" and no details, Dave will do that. If you want detailed info, Dave will do that, too. A friendly place for quality work. more

I've gone back, but my transmission experience was kind of more of the same. 2/11/2014

I had a transmission problem. I know Bill outside of his shop, so I went to Gateway Transmissions. Max, his son, mainly does most of the contact work. Bill is a great guy, and Max is a good son. It all just ended up being extremely expensive, just like my other experiences with every other transmission shop. The tab ended up being about twice what I had thought it would be. It also took a long time to do it. I know they were transitioning, but there were times I didn't see a lot of activity in the shop. I went back to them for more work, and I am not knocking them, but it was more of the same I've experienced elsewhere. more

Outstanding! 2/7/2014

The work is as good as the reviews say they are. 10/10. I was very pleased with my overall experience with Gateway. The service was everything I expect in a mechanic. He gave it to me straight and didn't sugar coat anything. Not only did he fix the problem with my car, but he took it a step further to go after the cause of the problem, and he kept me informed along the way. So after it was all said and done, I ended up not having to worry about whether the problem was going to occur again. The price that I payed was exactly at the same level as how I felt I was treated while my car was there: fair and honest. The work was superior, and I could tell that he was going to fix the problem rather than just address the issue. I will be returning for all of my car maintenance needs. Bottom Line: 10/10 Service, speed, overall experience, and especially quality. more

I have had several cars taken there for service and Gateway has never overcharged me. This was the first time I used them and I plan to use them again in the future. more

Excellent work. 1/29/2014

Gateway Transmissions is a legitimate business. I had my transmission rebuilt in Holister but it blew up shortly after. I called up Max and he offered to do the same job for less and so far its been great. I just love the atmosphere and I feel like they're family to me. more

Gateway Transmissions rebuilt my transmission. On the downside, I wasn't particularly happy with not getting a written bid. But, they did follow through with what they said and, subsequent to the fix, they did an excellent job of following up. more

Very satisfied 1/14/2014

Gateway Transmissions was very good and wonderful to work with. They put in a complete transmission in our car, helped us troubleshoot trouble with a leak, and found and corrected a safety problem. I liked their kindness, honesty, and how they explained the procedure. K. & J. Schmidt more

Could have been better 1/7/2014

So I went to Gateway to have my truck taken care of and they failed to vacuum it after they were done and they had a poor response time when I was attempting to contact them as to how long they would be servicing my truck. All in all I was fairly disappointed. more

No complaints! Accommodated us and got us back on the road. 1/2/2014

I would not hesitate to recommend Gateway Transmissions. It was very cut-and-dry with them. I worked with a nonprofit organization, and the van we had wouldn't shift into the third or fourth gears. I took it into Bill. He told me what it was all about and was very accommodating. We need those vans every day to pick up our items from around the area. He got it fixed in good time and got us driving again. He was also very flexible with the followup, and he later helped us get the thermostat repaired. more

Top-notch 12/12/2013

Never had my transmission fixed before so I have nothing to compare it to but it was satisfactory. Rob from Gateway Transmissions, I believe was the owner's son, was very attentive. There was no waiting involved. During the diagnostics, the owner spent time with me and drove my car around so we could figure out what the problem was. It was a very hands-on experience. more

Nice experience overall. 12/9/2013

Gateway Transmissions did a really good job taking care of my transmission and getting everything back together there. I was out of town when they found another problem, so they couldn't get my OK to fix it. I did appreciate that they didn't add a bunch to my bill without talking to me about it. When I picked it up, it wasn't running quite right. They told me the computer had to readjust to the changes. I was a little concerned about that only because I would think they'd take a test drive after fixing things. Other than that, everything was great. more

Gateway Transmissions ended up changing out the entire gearbox inside my transmission.They really took the time to let me know what was going on. They were very thorough with everything, and I appreciated how they kept me informed. more
