Review content:
I had seen sevaral favorable reviews on Great India Cafe. I've been eating Indian food for over 35 years and consider myself an authority of sorts. A simple dinner (8-22-07) at Great India Cafe with a friend (who is also experienced in Indian cuisine) was extremely disappointing for us both.\r \r Surprisingly, two of three dishes were practically inedible. The eggplant entre (about $9) was flavorless, overcooked and appeared to have been prepared earlier in the day. There was almost no perceivable spice in this unattractive dish. A ""rice of the day"" (overpriced at about $5 or $6) a small dish of pulao with a few peas and carrots had a distinct foul aftertaste - either burnt/old cooking oil or possibly a cleaning chemical. \r \r The third dish, a lamb wrap served without the chutneys stated on the menu was not bad - but we both felt stongly that this restaurant was ""cutting corners"" with our meal. I would surely not recommend eating here to anyone and unfortunately I will not return as a paying customer to give them another try with my stomach. Pros: Nice walking area in center of Studio City, comfortable outside seating Cons: Surprisingly poor food, flavorless overcooked eggplant, foul tasting rice - honest!
