Hard Knox is a definitely a one-of-a-kind sorta place. Soul food cooked up by a Vietnamese couple from Texas... Sounds confusing, but they cook up some tasty fried chicken! It's not a huge place - probably seats 25 or so, but not overly crowded on the Sunday afternoon we visited. Fun, funky vibe to the place, since it's built with a lot of recycled materials, but in a good way. We both had fried chicken and we each ordered different side dishes with mixed results. Mac and cheese definitely reminded me of my childhood. Not gourmet (probably Velvetta) but nice and creamy. Collard greens were just ok - had a bit of smokey flavor. Red beans & rice were passable. Yams were served mashed, but were overly seasoned for my taste. Way too sweet and seemed to be flavored with LOTS of pumpkin pie spice. I'd go back for the chicken alone, but will probably try their sandwiches sometime for lunch. Pros: Some of the best fried chicken in SF Cons: Quality of side dishes vary
