Do Not Go Here 8/23/2007

I took my two cats to Riverside Animal Clinic when I first got them eight years ago, but stopped because they were so bad. Once, when I took my cat for a check-up, they put him on an examination table that was covered with hair and smelled strongly of dog. A few minutes later, somone began banging away on a drum set in the basement (where the sick dogs and cats stay). Unbelievable, but true. My cat was so scared he peed himself, something he's never done before or since. From that point on, I took them elsewhere. Recently, however, my other cat got sick, and my regular vet was closed, so I took him to Dr. Ramos. What a mistake. When the test results came in, the vet tech took it upon himself to read them to me and give me a diagnosis of kidney failure (which was incorrect--this was not the primary diagnosis). He then gave me (unclear) extended care instructions and sold me supplies for the kidney failure that he had misdiagnosed. After I left, the vet tech sedated and performed dentistry on my cat. I believe that this was done WITHOUT THE DOCTOR'S PRESENCE. When I finally spoke to the actual doctor, he told me that my cat's kidneys weren't too bad, and that he suspected there was another problem with the cat's liver. I took my cat out of there and to a specialist, and received the actual diagnosis--lymphoma with some secondary early-stage kidney disease. The specialists were appalled that a vet (or his tech) sedated and performed dentistry on such a sick cat. The vet tech's actions (and Dr. Ramos's negligent supervision) put my cat in real danger, and may have seriously impaired his ability to recover from a potentially fatal illness. If your animal has an emergency, take him or her straight to AMC or NYC Veterinary Specialists. more
