There are plenty of places to buy computers these days, including Walmart, Best Buy, etc. but where do you go when your computer is acting up? You can certainly take it back to those places if you bought a service plan, but if not, just take it over to Galveston Computers. The owner/operator is a nice man who wants to help in whatever way he can. The prices are reasonable (every computer servicer is going to overcharge for the knowledge and labor actually required to fix most computer problems) and he offers a free diagnostic service. He's honest and won't try to screw you over, at least in my dealings.
Bottom Line: Need some computer advice or service, go ahead and let him diagnose and price the fix.

This clinic is superb. Everyone involved, from the receptionists to the nursing staff to the physicians are top notch, putting the patient first in a medical climate that currently does anything but. The appointments are 30 minutes for follow up, and 1 hour for new patients (compare that to 10 mins follow up and 15mins new patient). Everyone is there to help, and willing to do what they can to make you feel comfortable and fix whatever your problems are. Truly a great clinic.
Bottom Line: If you need a PCP, choose a physician in this clinic, you won't regret it.

We all need to have things shipped, especially around the holidays. Why not let someone else do the work for you? Galveston Mail Services is a full service shop where you just drop off the item and address, and they do the rest. I have used them for a few items and have been very satisfied with the work. You will pay a premium though, even over places like The UPS Store. I would recommend the business if you were on this end of the island, or just wanted to support local businesses.
Bottom Line: Good business, but prices are a little higher than other national chains.

The bowlling alley is just like any other bowling alley, complete with the odor of foot-stank and smoking. The equipment is in good condition, and although not the most modern of bowling alleys, still a great place to have some fun. Whether you're a pro, or just screwing around after knocking back a few at 21, you'll have a good time here. Food and bar services are offered if you want that sort of thing. Prices are good and most nights it's easy to get a lane. I believe there are leagues, but you'd have to contact the alley for more information on that.
Bottom Line: Good alley to kick back with friends and bowl a few frames.

If you've never heard of the 1900s storm, you should just leave Galveston or never visit. If you've heard of it and always wondered what sort of damage was really done, you need to see this movie. Pieced together from still shots and other footage, this 20 minute movie puts together the before, during and after. Viewers can truly see what was done, and how far the island has come since then. The price is a little high, but worth it to get a lesson in something so important in Galveston's history.
Bottom Line: Locals and visitors alike need to see this, it's that good.

I must say, the talent they get for these musicals is quite spectacular. The choice of musical will vary throughout the year, so just call ahead and find out what is on the schedule so that you can get in to see something you like. The performers are great, and the entire show is usually full of energy and gusto. I don't particularly enjoy musicals, but these performances are very good. If you are already staying at the moody hotel, then you're within walking distance of a wonderful show.
Bottom Line: Great talent, great performances. Remember to call ahead for schedule.

The Galveston Trolley has recently been expanded into the UTMB area of town so that patients, residents, etc. may get to and from without paying a dime. This is a great addition for those who can utilize it, and I strongly urge those who can to take part. But the trolley also goes around the strand and even out to the Seawall side of the island. If you don't want to drive, or just want to see some sites from the comfort of a trolley car, hop on and enjoy.
Bottom Line: Good service at a good price (especially when it's free).

Dr. Parker is part of the Carman, DDS practice located on 23rd. It is housed in a renovated old home that is very spacious and comfortable. The hygeinist was very good and quite cordial during the procedure. Dr. Parker reviewed the work along with the films, making suggestions along the way. He was professional, but not stiff. I was very pleased with the entire experience, especially since I am not a fan of dentists to begin with. The atmosphere was calming and the staff was extremely friendly.
Bottom Line: If you need a dentist, give this practice a go.

This is an attraction that many see coming down Harborside, but few actually visit unless they happen to be staying on the strand side of the island. Currently there are Segways for rent in front of the building on the weekends, so if you want, take advantage of that. The building used to house an antique store that visitors could shop around in for hours without really finding anything, or caring if they found anything. That has since closed, so the only thing to do really is ride Segways.
Bottom Line: If you want to ride a segway and get some Starbucks, come on over.

It's all about comparison with minigolf courses. Some are great, others are not. This is one of the 'nots'. The course appears to have been located near the beach off of seawall for the past 20 years, without any updating. It's only open during the summer season, and even then it seems closed. The carpet is ragged and the holes are boring. In fact, I really cannot see a reason for visiting this course as opposed to Magic Carpet, except for not wanting to drive that far.
Bottom Line: If you're too lazy to drive to Magic Carpet, just stay home.
