Having enjoyed B&B across the US, Canada, British Iles and Europe the Pine Rose was a pleasant find. The court yard is interesting and after ringing the school bell, as we were invited to do to alert the hostess that we were there, I surveyed the interesting house. Several pouches were evident to provide for a variety kind of guests – like the Mennonite couple from Pennsylvania who were on their honeymoon and wanted to dine by themselves or the German couple who had difficulty with conversational English or the family of 6 from Orange county who wanted to enjoy themselves or like my wife and I who enjoyed getting to know Walt from Florida who was in the area to marry off his daughter. Each room has its own entrance – ours, the Dome room, had a nice porch enclosed by bushes and a pear tree (from which morning fruit was prepared) which bonked me on the head as I entered and departed. The hostess said I could eat the ripened fruit but I enjoyed the ‘country’ effect of the fruit at my door. Our room was small (we took the cheapest) but adequate with unique antique lamps, comfortable bed, microwave, fridge, TV and a most unique and enjoyable tub/shower. A sunken tiled tub with a mermaid on the ceiling and a wonderful sunflower shaped large rain type shower head. Interesting and refreshing. Breakfast was delightful – the first day with a beautiful egg ‘role’ and fruit – pears and apples from the property, ginger laced juice to help those at that altitude and soon to go on the winding roads of to Yosemite. The second day was individual egg creation and homemade scones, mmmm. The third day was banana nut pancakes, eggs as you like them, delicious bacon, fruit and the helpful juice. My favorite B&B is still one in southern Wales where the front door had to be kicked in to opennone of the doors matched and the décor had no theme. So the Pine Rose ties with my second favorite B&B in Thunder bay, Canada.
