I decided to check out the Lynnwood Lanes and Rollaway for roller skating when the Southcenter Roller rink closed down. The floor at the Rollaway is outstanding, having been refinished in 2004, but everything else at Rollaway is straight out of 1982. Everything that is, except for the music, which you had hoped would be from 1982. And the kids that were there on Friday night when I went (none of whom were born prior to 1982.)
The lobby of the Rollaway is in serious need of rehab, but for $5.00 a person, I don't expect much in the way of decor. Unfortunately the Rollaway on the weekends is a drop off place for absentee parents. There are swarms of teens standing outside looking for something to happen, and while it wasn't crowded at all inside at 9:00pm on a Friday night, the few people who were there were all unaccompanied kids. The music they played tended toward contemporary hip-hop, although they did mix in some Green Day, one michael jackson song, and a couple old-skool hip-hop songs, this was just not the rekindling of the skating experience of my youth I was hoping for. On Monday nights they have an "adults only" skate that would definitely be worth checking out, but I'm not driving to Lynnwood on a Monday night.

InterBay is an average quality facility as far as the basics of a driving range go. The view is decent, but the location (close to the University of Washington) is its real selling point. It's pretty amazing to find a full-sized driving range so close to a city. It's a nice place to take a break and hit a few balls. They are open all year, and the staging area is heated, so it's a nice place to go keep your shot up during the rainy season.
There is also a miniature golf course at InterBay, but it's pretty pedestrian. I prefer my mini golf to be a more quirky with waterfalls, caves and fire breathing dragons. But you're not going to find something like that this close to the city, and at the reasonable prices you find at Interbay. I recommend it for a nice saturday afternoon activity.

Inn at the market is a beautiful boutique hotel right next to Pike Place Market. The staff is very professional, and the rooms are beautiful. Nothing can beat the harborviews from the suites. While expensive, the Inn at the Market is a great place to splurge for a weekend in Seattle. It's great location means you can walk around downtown easily, and come back in the evening to rest in your Tempurpedic bed and plush robes. My husband proposed to me at the Inn at the Market and the staff were very cooperative in helping him complete his elaborate plan.

I have taken Shuttle Express to the airport many times. They are always on time to pick me up at my house, and the price is much better than a taxi. The best thing about Shuttle Express is their service FROM the airport. They always have shuttles waiting for you, and can accommodate changes of plans quickly and easily. For around $25 to downtown, Shuttle express is a great deal. The drivers are courteous and prompt, and above all drive safely. I have been pleased every time I have taken Shuttle Express.

Assaggio Ristorante not only has incredible food, but the service is impeccable as well. For this level of service and quality of food downtown they could easily charge twice as much, but the prices are completely reasonable.
Every time we've visited Assaggio, the owner has been in the restaurant greeting patrons. On only our second visit, the waiter remembered what we had to drink and what we liked food wise. He was able to make outstanding recommendations based on only one previous visit. The owner remembered the exact vintage of wine preferred by the table next to us, and made an additional recommendation based on their tastes.
I cannot get over how refreshing it is to find this level of service in the Northwest. I had given up hope entirely, but walking into this little restaurant right downtown makes you feel like you've stepped into little italy.

If you are sick of giving your money to the big chain book stores, but not willing to sacrifice selection, then Elliott Bay Book Company is for you. They have some great author readings, a large selection and the prices are reasonable. The location downtown makes it a great spot to wander to before a game, or if you're looking for a more personal experience at a booksellers. They have great book clubs, and even a good selection of used and rare books. The pioneer square location makes it almost impossible to find a parking spot, but it's easily accessible via bus, or a nice walk through downtown.

The Admiral Theater is a great movie theater that shows slightly older films at a great price. For $4.50 you can still catch that hit movie before it comes out on video. The theaters are small, but clean, and the concession stand is passable, but you can't beat the price. The only movie theater in West Seattle, the Admiral is a great old timey movie theater in a great location. Hopefully it will be able to stay around for many years to come. It's close to lots of restaurants so you can make a date out of it.

The last time I went, everything went wrong. The service was bad, the food was bad, and the menu lacked choices. The seafood items on the menu were completely pedestrian, and were even poorly prepared. The presentation was more like high school cafeteria than haute cuisine.
On the other hand, the dessert was decent. So I recommend going there for cocktails or dessert, but don't waste your team eating here. It will only be a disappointment. For a nice special occassion dinner, go to the space needle instead.

The highland ice arena is a great place to spend a Friday evening. They're open fairly late, and it wasnt over crowded with kids when I went. It is inexpensive, but the place needs updating. They have both hockey and figure skates available for rental for $2.50. They also have Wednesday night "Cheap Skates" which is even cheaper than the already low price. The whole place could use a face lift, but then it wouldn't be so affordable. I would NOT recommend using the bathrooms at all.

Almost every interaction I've had with Cayce Gain has been a negative one. They don't return phone calls in a timely manner, they seem not to answer their "emergency pager" for after hours emergencies, and they have failed to act on promises they have made. Overall, the ideal solution would be for apartment owners not to deal with them in the first place, so that we tenants don't get unhappy and wind up breaking our leases. If you are comparing two properties and it's a total toss up, choose the one that isn't managed by Cayce Gain.
