Do you think you've seen it all?! Well, not yet until you've stopped by The Old Curiosity Shop down on Pier 54 in Seattle. The things you only think happen in fairytales, you'll see preserved in Giant Jars. Three headed pigs, shrunken heads, who wouldn't want to go peruse the shop?

The university book store is one of my favorite seattle books stores. Not only do they have good prices and wide selection of textbooks, their selection of other books is hugely extensive. It's a really nice, relaxing atmosphere (except during the beginning and end of UW quarters). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, they have really good special events. The husky shop is pretty cool and the people in the media center are helpful. Overall, it's a really great bookstore.
Pros: Great selection, great staff
Cons: parking is a little annoying

Urchin is my kind of store! All the merchandise at Urchin is carefully selected--it's unique and fun. I always go to Urchin for birthday gifts and wedding presents and appreciate the knowledgeable and polite staff. I have recommended this store to all my family and friends. At this point we don't shop anywhere else!
Pros: unique gifts, polite staff

We are shocked to see the details in the review of June 12, 2008 - we have historically prided ourselves in our firendly service and desire to please our customers. As the owner of Antiques at Pike Place, I write this response after many hours of internal review and staff communication regarding customer service and it's importance. It is absolutely our goal to cater to repeat customers - this is a big part of our business, and we have repeat customers locally and around the U.S. and the world who fly in to shop at our store each year. Thanks for the feedback, and being specific on the date... it's this kind of feedback that will ensure we do not lose focus on our customers.

ok, i read the review from seattlenewbie and i totally understand what happened. I think a little explanation is in order. For many years Traveller's has been THE best source for herbs, clothing, books, and other miscellanities of life elsewhere on the planet. The owner has spent a lot of time in India, but other parts of asia, as well as south america and the Caribbean are represented.
People come to Traveller's for their chai, which is among the best i've ever tasted. Definitely the best in Seattle. They've recently expanded their services and are now offering a full thalia served traditionally every weekend. As cool as this is, it's caused some trouble.
Adjusting to being a part-time restaurant has been difficult and many of the staff and ownership have found themselves overextended. I've noticed that the usual friendliness sometimes gives way to impatience now, but please try to understand. These are great people trying to do something that's not easy. I'm sure once everyone's adjusted to the new set up it will return to the friendly place it's always been.
Sorry you caught them on a bad day Seattlenewbie, here's hoping your next experience there is a good one :D
Pros: Parking, knowledgable sales staff, community atmosphere, delicious Thalia

If you are planning a trip, this is the place to go. You can always find an appropriate book, or a helpful item to take with you. In addition, the staff is amazing -- they are travelers themselves, and often have helpful information to share. The events at the store are also wonderfully informative and well-organized.
Cons: helpful staff, great selection

Seattle is sooo lucky to have Borrachinis because it is a real Italian bakery. Cannolis are delicious. Their cakes are famous - great for birthdays and weddings. It is a Seattle icon, yet there are many people that don't know about it. My favorite thing about this place is that it is so different from any other bakery in Seattle. It is a memorable expereince to go there because it is more like a bakery you would see in Italy or maybe New York. If you like ethnic bakeries, you will love this place! The food is very special, and the cakes are cheap.

More
This is a fine neighborhood shop with a great selection of boutique dog treats, toys and chews in a very compact space. They have wide selection of dog food, available in small quantities, all quality brands. Fetch is run in conjunction with a dog day care business owned by the same folks, who provide attentive expert and loving care for many of the "best friends" in the neighborhood. I used the day-care portion to provide socialization, stimulation and exercise--while my wife and I were away at work--for my two puppies while they were small, to help them develop. Today, our dogs have their own yard but I give credit for part of their friendly and outogiong nature to the months they spent with the people at Fetch. We still use Fetch daycare occasionally if we are away from town on a day trip where dogs can't go.
Pros: convenient, good location and parking, high-quality pet supplies and food
Cons: like any small shop, limited selection compared to big box

My hat's off to Kim at Stir (pun definitely intended)... I saw a few of her new hat designs on her site, and I knew I absolutely had to have one. I reached out to her directly to see if she could custom-create one in the colors I wanted (navy and baby blue), and she said no problem! A week after she got my request and a check, her Stir original creation arrived in my mailbox here in NYC. It turned out exactly as I hoped - and it's been on my head every weekend since.
