I dined at Kabul recently with a party of 5 (squeezed into a table for 4 mind you, even thought the restaurant was not full - annoying). At first I was a bit shocked to see $20 k...

Great Kabobs and Stews 2/22/2012

Very similar to Persian food if you haven't tired Afghan Cuisine. There are no good Persian places in Seattle for me to recommend, but Kabul is really good. Favorites include the Eggplant Stew, Kabobs, Soups, and flat bread more

Disappointed :-( 10/8/2006

Ok I love ethnic foods and both my husband and I were excited to try Afghan food for the first time. Let me start by saying the ambiance of the place was so nice. It is a very cozy and romantic place to have dinner. But the food... first off all the food we ordered was saturated with this garlic yogurt sauce. The sauce is good but not good enough to warrant so much of it. And my eggplant from my main entrée was so soggy it was almost liquid. Kinda gross. All in all the food isn't bad... maybe 3 stars... but as you have to take into account the price- for 15-20 bucks an entrée it should be a whole lot better! more

Exotic comfort food 3/23/2006

I've been a fan of Kabul for 10 years. I think I've tried everything on the menu, but am especially fond of their badenjan borani (sauteed eggplant, served with or without meat) and qorma i-sabzi (rice with spinach and scallions, also served with or without meat--try it with lamb). Everything tastes rich and hearty, like it's been simmering on the back of the stove for hours, but nothing is overly filling. For dessert, I recommend the firni (custard with rosewater and cardamom) and a small pot of cardamom tea. The atmosphere is intimate and warm--a great "date" restaurant. more

Tasty, unique 3/5/2006

The food here is delicious. Entrees cost around $10-13. I got a dish there, ashak, that was rather like ravioli - it was creamy and saucy. They also have an absolutely divine custard dish that you should try. The waitress warned me against the dogh: she said it was salty. I still haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked it. It's for the more adventurous, I suppose. The atmosphere is subdued, the dining room lit often with candlelight more than overhead light. I think it would be a nifty place for a date - it's the only Afghan restaurant in Seattle, after all. more

If you haven't been here yet, make it your next destination 7/15/2005

I have never met someone who was disappointed with the food at Kabul. If you haven't had Afghan food before, I'm jealous. Just when you think you've tried everything and there's nothing new, you can go to Kabul and try something different. While my favorite part is the Vegetarian Ashak (a thin pasta filled with something yummy with yogurt, mint, and tomato sauces - trust me), I love the little bowl of cucumber mint salad that always arrives after you order. For meat eaters, I understand that that the kabobs are very good. If I can convince someone to order the eggplant dish and split the ashak with me I'm exceptionally happy. I think beer is the perfect compliment to this food. The cozy booths and low lighting make it the perfect place for a date. more

great food! 6/27/2005

I saw this place in Wallingford and thought it looked interesting – for a long time I wanted to try it out, and when I finally did I was very pleasantly surprised! It's very different food than I usually eat, and very good. If you want to try something new I recommend Kabul. Sometimes they have live music too. more

Excellent restaurant 4/22/2005

Kabul is one of my favorite places to eat in Seattle - the food is great, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere inside, and they even have live sitar playing some evenings. I like the "dogh" salty mint-flavored yogurt drinks, but they're not for everyone. The eggplant is wonderful as is the rice cooked with spices, and everything else i've tried here! more

Afghan delight! 9/7/2004

We had never tried Afghan food before and we were happily surprised. Burta is the Afghan "raita", Ashak is the most interesting pasta dish I've ever had- pasta served with a yogurt garlic sauce topped with onion/tomatoe sauce and garnished with mint flakes (DELISH)... Treat yourself to this new cuisine. (prices range from about $11 an entree to kebabs at $15) more
