Obviously a small family run business...they genuinely care about your experience as a customer, kept checking to make sure everything was fine. Breakfast lunch or dinner they have it covered. In the candy store the Terrapins are the best I have ever had- makes those Turtles you buy elsewhere seem like crunchy wax...Bakers chocolate just melts into a silky chocolate that is perfect with the tasty not-too-chewy caramel, and offset with the slight bitterness and crunch of the pecans...the same high quality ingredients in the candy as the food.
I was told that the restaurant and retail candy shop is closing in a few weeks, the building has been sold, they will still do wholesale candy but somewhere else- so get on in there if you want a genuine Lake City experience.
Pros: Food, service, candy candy candy...
Cons: the interior could use some freshening, but not likely since its closing soon

Baker's is a Sunday brunch tradition for us. The choices are difficult though - breakfast? Lunch? Ice-cream? Ice cream! Portions for all of the above are huge and reasonably priced. The smoking section is more comfortable than the non-smoking which is sometimes chilly and is a charmless back room (hmm..). Sit at the counter and have a killer sundae, or sit in the booth and go back in time with a chicken fried steak breakfast with all the trimmings. They make their own chocolates as well!

Only a few restaurants like this left, where they don't serve food from a package like Denny's or Olive Garden. Best french toast I ever had, w/in-house made maple syrup. The soup was unbelievably good, too. Lots of homemade candies to buy on the way out--stuff way too good to be found at the corner store.
Pros: Homemade Food, Good Service, Reasonably Priced

I can't believe I overlooked this genuine, old-fashioned restaurant and "sweet parlor." Not another place like it in the states I've traveled! Hand-dipped ice cream, dozens of homemade candies (yes, the factory is in the same location), actual food that doesn't come out of an instant package--WOW! I heard a whipping noise in the kitchen; I was right, omlettes made with real eggs to order, outrageous fillings, and the homemade maple syrup on the waffle is indescribably delicious! Old-time pictures on the wall make it the best in the world.
Pros: Homemade Quality, Nostalgiac!, Absolutely Delicious!
Cons: None, None, None!
