If upscale image is important, shop here 4/18/2006

I've been to the Metropolitan Market twice. The quality of the food they sell certainly seems high, but their prices are not quite commensurate with the quality - that is, quite a few of their items are ridiculously overpriced ($8 for half a quiche lorraine?!?). It seems to me that they are selling an image and an upper-class lifestyle more than anything. Metropolitan may be a good choice for flowers and gourmet bakery items if you live nearby. If you like quality organic or gourmet food, you'll probably save money by going to PCC or Madison Market, our local food co-ops. They sell the same quality food, although with a smaller selection of really gourmet items. more

Best of both worlds 4/7/2006

Metropolitan Markets offers name brands that are great for the shopper on a budget or someone who just cant beat the Captain Crunch addiction. On the other hand, you have your Trader Joes/Whole Food esque products. The bakery is exceptional, in my opinion. Looking for cheeses? GO HERE! They have a great selection and I've even been offered samples by just inquiring as to the flavor of a particular one. The prices definitely exceed your normal QFC, Safeway etc but for good reason. The organic, foreign, and natural products are plentiful. Pick up a piece of organic dark chocolate at the checkout and you'll be in heaven. more

Terrific Grocery Store if You've Got $$$ to Spend 2/8/2006

Metropolitan Market offers a better selection than Whole Foods (carries name brands, staples, etc.) and similar quality. It's certainly not kind to the budget shopper but if you're choosing between a trip to Whole Foods and somewhere else, give Metropolitan Market, the local chain, a try. more

Fresh food and flowers 9/7/2005

This grocery store is a local chain with five locations in the state-three in Seattle and two in Tacoma. This review is for the Sandpoint location. I love going here even if I don't buy anything. The flower section of the store is great and inexpensive, it is almost like going to a small in city nursery. The grocery selection has all the usual staples but when you walk down the aisle you are often surprised by the more eclectic offerings. For instance, the cheese section, while not as big as Whole Foods, rivals it for depth. Many sections in the store are like this. Sometimes it can be expensive but unlike Whole Foods this place has real sales and specials, and it is much less crowded. more
