Buy Local 4/9/2006

Why buy your veggies at the grocery store when you can purchase them fresh right from the guy who grew them at the farmers market. This is always a fun saturday morning adventure. I love lookibng at all the fresh fruits and vegetables and you can often get a deal on them as compared to the grocery store. the farmers markets lets you see EXACTLY where your food is coming from, and you can get some of the freshest food around. more

I love this place 3/22/2006

I love the Farmers Market. To me, there are few things more delightful than strolling through a corridor of fresh produce, sampling fresh peaches and strawberries as I go. This is definitely the place to go if you are looking for the best prices and quality of seasonal produce. You do have to watch, however, as some vendors try to pass off yesterday’s produce as today’s fresh picked. The produce you buy here will be better than any you can find in the store. In addition to produce, they have a wonderful selection of flowers, herbs and greenery. more

Dinosaurs! 1/22/2006

This is a great museum for children with giant dinosaurs, and stuffed animals that can make small children think they are out in the wild. They have birthday parties for smaller children featuring live animals and arts and crafts as well. Admission is free as well, which is always a plus. more

Very fun and educational! 12/31/2005

What a great museum to spend the day, with our grandchildren, 8 and 11. All of the exhibits are done exceptionally well and keep all of us entertained, from the snakes to the dinosaurs! They even have a hands on laboratory. Also, check the schedule for different live talks given throughout the day for they are very interesting and educational, and a good time to sit for a while and rest your feet! more

Great family time! 12/15/2005

We walked around and learned all about the three sections of North Carolina, the coast, piedmont, and mountains. The four floors of this museum have so much to do on each floor that each floor could take a day to explore! There are dinosaur bones, sharks hanging from the ceiling , and raccoons in trees. The classes are great too and the volunteers and museum employees are friendly and helpful. more

Fun and Fruity 12/1/2005

I love the Farmer's Market. First, it's nice to know that you support the local economy and the local farmers. You can always look up their website to see what is in season along with a lot of other helpful hints, recipes, information, etc. My family and I try to go every week to get our produce for the week. Whatever produce you buy, they will last 2 - 3 times longer than your grocery store bought produce. A lot of times prices are better too. Example, red and yellow bell peppers are 1/2 what you would pay for in the grocery store. Also, if you go very early like 4-5am, you can find farmers selling crates of a specific veggie for a great price. These are great to split with friends or donate to shelters. Other bulk items which are a great buy are the 20-40 pound boxes of sweet potato. During the summers, the melons and peaches are absolutely amazing. And winter time you can buy a variety of apples. Besides the produce, you can find, plants, herbs, flowers, baked goods, finished goods like jams, butters, preserves, etc. All around a great place for the family. OH, one more great plus...the Seafood restaurant. Tons of food for a great price. Our whole family shares one large plate and we bring home leftovers. The breading is just right and for those who don't want fried food, they do have broiled platters. Their sweet tea is also fantastic. If you like Kemp's Seafood, you'll like this place. I believe they are the same owners. more

great way to spend the day 8/19/2005

they are a great day with the kids. the kdis are kept occupied by the largeer than life displays and the large museum. so we were never bored by boring exhibits because all of them are well designed and parking and transportation to the museum was not a big problem because the parking spots were pelentiful and they were close to the entrances. highly recommended. more

fresh fruit 8/19/2005

i love goign to the farmers market because they have really really fresh fruit and i know that they are fresh because they are grown instate by local farmers so i like the idea of helping them out and not the supergiant corporations. they are located inraleigh so the drive overt here may be out of the way but it is well worth it because if i had known about the msooner, i would hav definately gone there. more

Great place to go 8/19/2005

I just went to the farmers market for the first time a couple weeks ago. I grew up going to the farmers market in Asheville, so I knew what to expect. This place is great! You could go and just waste time looking around - the produce, flowers, and plants are great to just look at. The people watching is also lots of fun. I got fantastic sourdough bread, delicious blackberries and blueberries, and decent sweet corn. My friend got some truly wonderful cinnamon bread that she let me try. I'll definitely get myself a loaf of that next time I go back. We shopped in the morning and then ate some of our purchases for lunch at home - what fun! more

Fruits, Vegetables & More 8/18/2005

The State Farmer's Market in Raleigh offers up a vast assortment of home grown and hand made goods. Fruits and Vegetables are plentiful and fresh. Most farmer's pick that morning before coming to the market. We have found excellent breads and other baked goods. Lately we have found oyster mushrooms from a VA farm and locally made goat cheese. Crafts, plants and cut flowers can also be purchased. more

Free fun! 8/17/2005

The Museum of Natural Sciences is a great way to spend a summer day in Raleigh. There is no admission charge, which is nice. There are plenty of exhibits to see, so you can go back a few times and not get bored of it. Kids tend to get bored at museums, however there are fun things for kids to do here too! I give it a thumbs up! more

Where the dinosaurs live. 8/10/2005

This is probably my kids' favorite museum. They LOVE the dinosaur bones, and will cheerfully spend hours and hours going through the exhibits. They also love the children's learning area, and have had the opportunity to pet a snake, watch honey bees in action inside a hive in the museum, and look at cool stuff under a microscope. It's free, and it's a great way to spend an afternoon or several. They offer a variety of talks and additional displays that are very cool. more

Clean Green Perfection. 8/4/2005

The Farmers Market is a great Saturday morning destination, especially if you're planning to grill out! The produce here is cheaper and fresher than anything you could ever find in the supermarket, and the selection is unbeatable. Aside from fresh fruits and vegetables, vendors feature plants, pickles, fresh meats and cheeses, desserts, jams and jellies, honey, and all sorts of other things. Parking can be a little crowded, so get there early if you don't want to walk. more

Best Farmers Market I Have Encountered 7/14/2005

The Raleigh Farmers Market is worth the drive it takes to get there from some areas in Raleigh. It supports the local economy and the selections are endless. They have all the normal fruits and vegetables, but they also feature an onsite restaurant that uses all local products in the foods. It is a huge farmers market and it's easy to spend half a day taking it all in. Not only are there vegetables, fruits and flowers, but they also have herbs and plants. Sometimes there is seafood and other meats as well. Parking is plentiful. more

State Farmers Market 6/28/2005

The farmers Market is a great place to go and browse or to purchase fresh produce and crafts. They often have themed days such as "Strawberry day, Watermelon Day" which are fun for the whole family. You get lots of samples to eat and all varieties of the particular produce. more

Nice Atmosphere 6/20/2005

I love bringing out of town guests to the charming State Farmers Market. The segmented, open-air shops provide the freshest local goods you could ever want. I have also purchased many inexpensive herbs and plants for my garden here. The restaurant is also very good and reasonably priced. You can’t go wrong spending an afternoon here. more
