I have seen some good shows at the Village Players Theater over the years. I like the fact that ticket prices are reasonable ($27 for Opening Night; $20 for subsequent shows) and that the theater is relatively small and cozy. They are very active with community events, and often put on benefit shows for local charities or other nonprofits. That's very important in my book. So if you are in the 'burbs and want to catch a play or musical, check out the Village Players Theater.

Oak Park’s Lake Theatre is a local landmark, and understandably so once you walk inside. The theaters have been remodeled/restored and evoke all the feeling of what they might have been like in the “glory days.” I wouldn’t go see a visual-effects epic here—there’s neither stadium seating nor gigantic projection screens—but that’s not its selling point. Rather, it’s the ability to see a new movie in a smaller (in some cases, much smaller) room—a more cozy yet inviting experience for the less visually intense movies (i.e. date movies) that get released. Of course, expect to pay steep prices for non-matinee tickets and food, but at least the popcorn refills and toppings are free.

I started using Mark Capelli's piano tuning services many years ago on the recommendation of a friend, and I have been very pleased with the results. Mr. Capelli really knows what he is doing (I believe he does or has played the piano himself) and I love the improvement in sound quality that results after one of his visits. Excellent all aroung - I've never had a problem with him and I have nothing but good things to say about his tuning services.

Val's Halla has every single type of music under the sun. This independent music store carries CD's, Tapes, Records, Movies (VHS & DVD) & every other type of Music Memorabilia you can think of. They sell new and used items at very reasonable prices. Be sure to checkout the 'Elvis Shrine' which has been featured on numerous television spots and travel shows. It's a very unique store and the employees are always friendly. Nothing is too obscure for this store. If you can think of it, they probably have it.

Appropriately name because the store has a 100+ year old Gingko Tree right in front of it's entrance. This store is adjacent to The Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio that is Oak Park's pride and joy. When going on a tour of the home and studio you will need to purchase your tix at the bookstore. While inside I found it to be a charming gift shop as well that offers some items that were inspired by F.L.W. himself. Books, gift cards, postcards, magnets, candle-holders and even jewelry are sold. Make sure you bring your credit card or cash because there is alot to choose from if you appreciate and celebrate F.L.W. and his designs or if you just want a gift for yourself or a loved one.

More
I don't know how many parents out there know who Jim Gill is, but he is a singer/song-writer of children's music based out of the Chicago area. He has a Master's Degree in Child Development. Last night, the Coralville Public Library http://www.judysbook.com/members/23875/posts/2006/4/316917/ was able to "book him" to perform a concert at Morrison Park (right next to the Coralville Aquatic Center.) My kids loved it!
It was a small gathering of about 100 people. My daughter and I had seen him perform a few years ago, and so I knew that my kids would enjoy yesterday's performance. Playing the banjo, Jim does an amazing job of both singing silly songs and getting audience participation! Not only are the kids expected to get up and dance, so are the parents... Yes, a lot of the songs are "corny," but that's what makes it fun for the kids. My kids are ages 2 and 6 years old. Both children "got up and moved" and throughly enjoyed the concert.
Here is his website if you're interested in learning more. http://www.jimgill.com/ If you have children, and Jim Gill "comes to town," go and your whole family will have a wonderful time!
