I have been going to this place with my family for my whole life. everyone I bring there loves it too!
You MUST try the mediterranean bread WITH the antipasta salad. The key is the two homemade dressings (yes they sell bottles for you to take home)
creamy garlic and sweet poppyseed.
mix them together and it's perfection!
Out of the dozens of visits,, I've only ordered the grinders once.
We go for the pizza
please try it and remember it is cash only!
Pros: cozy atmosphere and yummy bread and salad!
Cons: cash only

My mom and I ate there together, and we both agreed that it was an awesome restaurant. We sat at the bar first and enjoyed a couple drinks. The bartender was awesome. There was a dripping ceiling, which was kind of annoying, but the bartender tried to clean it as well as he could.
The waitress was okay. She wasn't overly nice, but that's maybe preferred. We made our own antipasto tray, which was fun and tasted good. My mom ordered a shrimp and fettucine dish, which came out before my pasta. That was a little annoying. I guess the idea is to share, but I don't like shrimp. So I had to wait for my food. When my pasta arrived, it was very good. Their marinara sauce is excellent.
I would recommend this place to anyone. It has some really good Italian food, good wine list, and fair prices.
Pros: Excellent food and drinks
Cons: Food comes when it's ready

To the reviewer who had the soggy pizza: You must just have had bad luck. I've been going to Vito & Nick's for years, and I have never experienced a soggy pizza or anything other than a superior product.
Vito & Nick's is the quintessential Chicago-style cracker crust pizza. Crispy crust, nice balance of toppings, clean-tasting sauce that is not overly sweet (like Palermo's "sugar sauce.") I generally order mine well done to get a little extra char on it. Other pizza joints worth visiting for their cracker crust: Aurelio's in Homewood, Marie's, Pat's, and perhaps Candlelite. But, for me, Vito & Nick's is in a class by itself.

It was our first visit to Chicago, and Volare was highly recommended to us. Our waiter was very attentive and polite, and the atmosphere was inviting. The menu offered a variety of dishes which anyone would have difficulty choosing from, so I asked the waiter to surprise me with a dinner of his choice. I was brought Chicken Cacciatore and it was magnificent! The flavor and texture was everything that made every bite to be savored. The chicken was tender and covered in a perfectly cooked sauce made of fresh red peppers, mushrooms, onions, green olives... and the pasta was coated in a thin yet tasty tomato/garlic sauce which I have never tasted the likes of before. Later we walked by the Volare during rush dinner hour and it was packed. MY SUGGESTION would be to avoid the rush dinner hour so you could savore the experience of this small yet lovely place and all it has to offer. It is packed during dinner hour for a reason! Once home I tried to google recipes to duplicate this dish, but was unsuccessful in finding anything that closely matched the ingredients. Would I eat at Volare again during my next visit to Chicago? In a heartbeat!
Pros: Great Food
Cons: Dinner Hour Rush

Despite our favorite chef Fred Ramos leaving Gioco, we still enjoy our experiences here and the food is always excellent. Sunday we dined there for Easter Brunch and had a wonderful meal for an amazing price. If you are looking for a nice Italian dining experience for a great price, give Gioco a try.
Pros: atmosphere, food, drinks, specials
Cons: can't find any

I have been coming here since a kid with my Pop. It used to be a little bit too "gentlemen with cigars and mistresses" -oriented when I was young, however, that has changed and it is welcoming to everyone now and quite good for family gatherings. The roasted chicken and NY strip are the best dishes, and when my son was with me, they always would just cook him whatever he wanted (usually an alfredo dish). Don't go unless you are HUNGRY since the steaks are giant. If you don't like medium rare you really need to stress that--I like fairly rare steak but as the steaks are thick you have to request a longer cook time if you don't want it pretty pink. Staff here are much more accommodating for kids compared to other 'macho' steak joints. Many happy memories here.
Pros: steak, kind staff
Cons: pretty pricey but can't complain on the steaks

Ok, I read some of these "poor reviews" and I wonder if they're done by other restaurant employees in the area. I've been to Dinotto's on and off on many occasions, over the course of the past 3 years and I must say that this is a great place, be it winter or summer. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is great, the drinks are wonderful and the servers are friendly. We recently went to celebrate my sister's birthday and we dined al fresco. My sister absolutely loved her birthday dinner. And the owners always make it a point to walk around and say hello to their patrons. I like that kind of attention. If you haven't been to Dinotto's, you have to try it.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Tuesdays are a little slow but then again, it's the slowest business day in the City.
