For an amusing night out this is the place to go. For those not familiar with improv, it is a form of comedy theater where the audience provides certain criteria and the troupe incorporates these responses into their act. These guys are pros at it. Since you never quite know what is being thrown at you improv is a very difficult form to master. You would never know it by watching these actors.

Hey, I'm a big advocate for "you get what you pay for" - hence $10.25 for a movie is fine with me, as long as the seats are comfortable, the sound sytem is top notch, and the fact that its such a big establishment means more choices! This is the theater I ALWAYS go to, unless the movie is an indie/foreign film that can only be seen at Kendle

I have gone several times as my boyfriend works here. The post about similar to Medieval Times is completely wrong. The only ways it is similar is that it is a dinner theatre and it is medieval themed. It is the only MEDIEVAL MANOR in the country. It is songs, skits and music in a medieval theme. Very adult humor and no jousting. NOT FUN FOR ALL AGES 15+!!!
I love it, but I may be biased :)

This place is pretty right on, it's one of the premier venues in Boston. There's a front room bar that usually has lighter, more acoustic acts, and the main stage area where the acts are as eclectic as can be. It's fairly small, which is a good thing. There are two bars in the back room and a kind of wiry upstairs where you can get a birds eye view. What I hate is when a show sells out here and they move it to some place like the Avalon so more dweebs who didn't think ahead to buy tickets can get it. It makes the show less personal and the audience less sincere. I'm no jerk, but I'd rather see a show with people who've been wanting to see it for months rather than some kids just looking for something to do.

I love the Colonial Theater. I have been visiting this theater since I was a child. From the moment I walk in the front door, I continue to be humbled by the overwhelmingly gorgeous decor. I have spent most of my time in the less expensive "nose bleed" seats up at the top of the theater. The architechts of this building, no doubt had the cheapskates in mind, though! The cheap seats are constructed in such a way that you are sitting nearly on top of the person in front of you. When the show begins, you feel very close to the stage, as there are no obstructions what-so-ever. The only time you notice the height is when you stand up to walk into the seats or out of them - they make you feel like you are walking a tight rope and that you might topple into the seat in front of you!
If you can catch a nationally touring show at this theater, I would recommend it. It is made for grand shows!

It's so great that they opened the Copley location since Faneuil Hall is a bit inconvenient for most people. The biggest disadvantage here is that, unlike New York City, many of the Boston venues are spread out (so if you really wanted to do something last minute, you might have to still haul yourself over the Cambridge to see a show). WIth ticket prices so high, this is a great resource. There rarely seems to be a line (unlike NYC). ArtsBoston runs the booth, so you can always order discounted tix ahead of time online (though they don't guarantee tix, I've ordered many things over the years and have always gotten my first choice and always gotten a ticket, which they mail to you). Their website also tells you about Bostix availability for the day, too (so no mystery when you arrive).

Stuart Street Playhouse is an excellent little theater. It’s small size makes for a very intimate atmosphere for watching LIVE shows and musicals. The staff are very professional and organized. There is a nice waiting area in the event you arrive to the show late and must wait, there is a pleasant, clean and comfortable waiting area. The theater seating is comfortable and there is an excellent view of the stage from virtually any seat.
