ive taken classes at bellevue, everett and edmonds community colleges, bellevue is by far the best. its located right off I-90, there has been recent road improvements here which always helps. theres many parking lots and a garage, but some are far away. the school is good condition with several new buildings and computers being more included into classrooms. there is always visible security and ive never heard of any problems there.

Cherry Crest is a great public school to send your elementary-aged child to. The teachers are attentive to students and encourage reading outside of class. The school provides extra classes before and after school. The staff is also very helpful and friendly to both parents and students alike. There are many playgrounds for the students to run around it and you will likely find yourself there on the weekends.

Compusa is a great local computer store. Its large so they carry more than just computers, they have all kinds of electronics like TVs. They employ a lot of workers so its easy to find customer service when you need it. Usually every Sunday they post sweet savings in the Sunday circular, so keep an eye out.

This school has a vast range of programs but I have been sending my son to the pre-school for over a year now and can not stop raving about it!
I am a huge advocate for teaching children foreign languages at a young age (when they actually retain it). I wanted my son to learn Japanese because I speak it (a little) and I thought it would be fun for the two of us to speak the same foreign language. But he is Caucasian and I didn't want to put him in some of the other Japanese pre-schools because he would really stick out and I was afraid he would be uncomfortable. When I found APLS I was so excited! They specialize in just this.
This was the first time I have ever left my son in the care of anyone besides friends and family and it was SO HARD, as any mom can attest to. --Nothing to do with the school itself, just the usual parent separation anxiety. But he has really thrived there and has come to form some really good relationships with his teachers, who are both nurturing and caring as well as great at teaching Japanese and Chinese.
My son (now 3 1/2) gets comments everywhere we go about how articulate he is (in English) and how he appears to be much older than he is. I attribute this to APLS for giving him such a rich curriculum. Not only does he learn Japanese, but they also work with him on regular pre-school concepts like counting, writing, drawing etc. He loves his teacher (which I think is invaluable) and now speaks, understands, and even writes a little Japanese. I am so astounded by the progress that he has made that I want to share it with everyone and encourage them to start their children in APLS preschool too!
For adults who are interested in learning Chinese or Japanese they provide classes for adults too.
For more information check out their website www.apls.org or contact me for more positive feedback!!

This is a "Waldorf school". It is not for everyone.
For example, there are no computers here.
If you are very concerned with your child's academic achievements in elementary school, this one is not for you.
The curriculum is very well balanced. This is not just maths and reading but also arts, story telling, handwork, movement, foreign languages. And it's also all well integrated. For example, the children do handwork in the Japanese class, or learn the multiplication tables while juggling with bean bags.
This is one of the most impressive things about the school: children learn through all their senses, at their own pace.
This is a school that does not try to fill the children's minds with knowledge, but to allow the children to find in themselves the joy of learning without external pressure or competition.
Looking at my own children's experience, it works.
A few years ago, they were in a high pressure private Montessori school, they hated it. Because of the constant pressure, they were beginning to believe they were "not good" at this and that (maths in particular). We decided to move them to Three Cedars. I could not have expected the profound impact this decision has created in our lives. Two years later, they still love their school and look forward to going to school almost everyday. We don't have to torture them with homework any more, they are already independent and manage it on their own.
Three Cedars offers classes from K through 8th grade and are adding a new grade each year.
Last, you should be aware that tuition is expensive, as most of the private schools in the area.

If you're looking for a tutor on the Eastside there are many options. We chose KUMON in Factoria run by Queenie Louie. She also operates a center on Mercer Island. Our 2nd grader has much more confidence with math, doesn't mind doing his Kumon practice every day, and the teacher has seen improvement.
1- it's affordable.
2- their approach is to strengthen the student's foundation. If your child moves along in a subject without a strong foundation - then everything that follows will be more difficult.
3- the work involves daily practice, but not a lot of time.
4- student sets time goals & uses a timer for their work
5- it's not one-on-one tutoring which some students may need. Support is there for your child though. Consider this... they build a strong foundation and they practice.
6- it does involve scheduling and a commitment
Don't WAIT too long. Check them out. They have young children (pre-K) and go through High School. They do test prep. Highly Recommend.

The teachers at this school are excellent. If you are interested in your kids learning Japanese, this is an immersion environment that works well. The program is well planned and the kids respond to the structure. A lot of music, play and learning. My son was nervous the first day but could not wait to go back. The teachers always greet the children cheerfully and the kids all seem thrilled to be there.
