Yildizlar Restaurant

I am a bit of a food snob. I go everywhere just to get where the best food in the city is. I've gone everywhere searching for a good schwarma, and there are a few good places, but Yildizlar has by far the best chicken schwarma in the city! Ive never even eaten anything else there because these sandwiches are just perfect. Go and try it immediately, except not on Sundays. I entered the restaurant alone one day for lunch because I was in the area, and could not believe what I was told once inside. I had never been there before, I was greeted by the owner, and I guess because I was alone, I was asked, ""Do you plan on spending money?"" He then said in exact quote, ""Because if not, you are not welcome in my restaurant!"" Seriously, I am not exageratting! I could not believe what had just come out of his mouth, and what I'm figuring is that he thought either I was a sales person or a soliciter, not knowing what I was there for was strictly food!! I told him he just lost a customer, and I will make sure everyone knows how rudely I was treated. I left and I plan to never return. Pros: Never ate so don't know Cons: The Owners Mouth! more

We got tired of trying to go to Niko-Niko for the whole week, it is extremely busy all the time, the line was outside the door! Yildizlar is a small, nice, family place. Nothing fancy, but the food is great. We tried the eggplant hummus(awesome!) and Egyptian Okra, (I didn't like it much but my bf loved it). The Gyros was also excellent, the bread that comes with it was big! The service was not 4 star, they didn't keep asking if you are doing ok with your food, but the owner was very friendly and asked once right after we started eating and also when we got the bill...by the way, it's priced very reasonable. I am a Malaysian, and my bf is a Texan, we both left happy and full. Pros: Great food. Cons: Food presentation is lacking. more

I went to Yildizlar and i have mixed up feeling about the place. The food was tasty for the price and the stablisment was nice, better than expected. The tables were sticky and the cook was not very costumer friendly. I love this white mediterranean sause they use, so i ran out and asked for a little more. In all restorants they always give u more but here they charged me 50 cents!!! i mean come on! I Enjoyed the meal highly but i think next time i will buy ""take out"". First of all... what on Earth are all these MidEastern restaurants under ""Greek"" for??? Nonetheless, back to this review: I love Shawarma, kebabs, hummos and all the like. I have my favs, I have my ""do not bother"" list. Yildizlar was an average establishment three years ago. Today, it is a shadow of its former averageness. Please go to Mediterranean cuisine or Fadis on Dunvale if good food is what you want. If all else fails, the kebabs at cafe lili are great and the shawarmas at Jerusalem Halal meat are spot-on. Sometimes service may make up for semi average food, but not in Yildizlar's case. Oh well! more
