Good service but bad food 12/9/2007

First off, our waitress was very friendly and professional, and the place is clean. Having said those things, the only thing I can recommend at this place is their garlic fries. The rest were either so-so or terrible. Examples: their chicken quesadilla tasted like the chicken was a leftover. Their salmon in their Pasta con Nova was fishy. Their crispy calmari was NOT crispy. Pros: Very good service, affordable parking for downtown standards. Cons: Inferior food. more

Hence the theme Brewery not good food. 8/16/2007

IT;s funny how people are under the impression a watering hole has good food. You should be more cautious in ordering particular foods as welll. Ok! I'll give it to the knuckle head above me that they messed up his order of buffallo wings. How could that possibly be. But who orders spring rolls and a salad at a brewery? The Weiland Brewry is the ultimate brewery, excellent pale ale and the amber is one of the best i've tasted in L.A. If you want good food don't go to The Weiland Brewery, but if you want good beer and cocktails. This is definately the place! more

Horrible (really, really horrible) food, dreadful service 7/12/2007

I really hate to write a review like this. I have been wanting to come to this restaurant for food, and especially for happy hour, for a little while now. I have been to many happy hours in downtown and this sounded like a good one. I couldn't have been more wrong. The restaurant in on the bottom, I guess, floor of a bank, surrounded by a McDonalds and other miscellaneous fast food chains. The interior of Weiland is sparce and sort of depressing. No mood lighting, just bright and plastic. My friend and I both had a beer and waited to place our order for food. And waited. And waited. On the one hand I feel bad. There was one girl covering multiple tables and she was clearly overwelmed and out of her element. After waiting about a half an hour she finally came over and took our order of hot wings, garlic fries, spring rolls and a dinner salad. The first three come out first by a food runner. The spring rolls are mussy and have really no taste. The garlic fries are limpy. The hot wings were terrible. I LOVE hot wings in general, these were really the worst I have ever had. The dinner salad finally showed up after reminding the waitress and it was pretty generic, but what do you really expect from a dinner salad? I am glad I had it though because the hot wings were inedible. Everything was super cheap, so I can't be angry, but I would NEVER go here for regular priced food and I would never really eat here for happy hour again either. Especially when Nick and Stef's and Zucca are so close by, two restaurants with GREAT happy hours. I wouldn't want anyone else to waste their money (and their time, which for us was a lot of time) here. Pros: Parking is easily accesible? I am really pushing it... Cons: Ambience, service, food... really everything more
