I had called them for help with my dryer. After about 15 minutes the guy said that he was going to order me a part and we would get it 2 days later and it would be around $200. ...

Overpriced, misleading, terrible serive!! 1/30/2008

1) On the phone, they said the service call was $60, when the tech got there ge said it was $100 2) Not only did they charge $100 in labor for a 20 minute repair, they charged another $190 for a part that I later found out costs $55 3) Tech was rude, and did a poor job. He defrosted the fridge coils by POURING water over them. Although I provided 13 big towels, I was left with water under my baseboards, under the oven, and all over the floor. Tech wouldn't even help me move the oven to get the water out! I was on my hands and knees nearly the whole time cleaning up his mess, and he left before it was even done! 4) Called to speak with a manager, and they never returned my calls. I tried contacting them five times, and no one would call me back. 5) When I first called and got a customer service rep right after the tech left, I said that I need to pay with a credit card instead of the check I left because I didnt have $300 (what they charged for the simple repair) in my checking account. She assured me it was ok, they wouldnt cash the check. She said a manager would call and talk to me and take my credit card number. They cashed the check anyway, sending me into overdraft, and the manager never called! Pros: NOTHING Cons: Overpriced, terrible service, misleading pricing on service calls...overall just horrible! more

Worst Appliance service 12/25/2007

I think it very unfortunate that Watkins' Appliance is still in business. I had a run in with this company & even though Mr. Watkins & his unethical repair man tried to rip me off & threaten to "ruin" my credit, I fought back. PLEASE remember there is always a way to avoid being ripped off. 1. Go the Business Bureau & look up the company report, 2. Go to the local department of consumer affairs & make a report, 3. You can actually file a small claims suit against the company (so I was instructed by an attorney), 4. Fight the collection agency ~ stand your ground, 5. It helps to make a public note of problem. I never paid this guy a dime & I did make a Business Bureau report & I fought the collection agency. I turned Watkins and the collection agency over to the department of consumer affairs. I have not heard anything more from either party and there was no adverse credit report made. During my battle, I was told by the Business Bureau, there were several cases being reported against Watkins for similar poor business practices. After all this, I cannot believe this guy is still in business. There is a way to avoid being blindsided by poor service. Compile a list of good businesses from anything from home remodeling to removing weeds from people you know - church members, neighborhood assoc., friends & co-workers & always check the Business Bureau site for any neg reports. Even though reports are resolved, does not mean the business is practicing ethically. I believe if a company will let the problem get as far as the Business Bureau, the business is not worth bothering with. Every year, I receive updated list, via e-mail with businesses from Nashville to Columbia ~ businesses are ranked on good service, timeliness of performing service, price, and why services recommend. Also, it's important to include businesses to avoid separately on your list. I hope this info helps, but in terms of Watkins ~ stay away & tell everyone you know to stay away from him Pros: none Cons: Lack of ethical business practices ~ unreliable service 100% of time more

Still have dryer that won't dry 8/29/2007

The serviceman came, turned the dryer on, and went outside. Returned with a clump of lint which he said he removed from the vent. He said this was the problem and told me it was $109 charge due. I objected to this as he had not really done anything to fix the dryer. I was told I could pay it or they would turn it over to collections. I paid and he left. The dryer still does not dry as it should. I called the owner to ask for someone to come out and complete the repair, and was told it would cost more for a return call. When I objected because they had not fixed it and they should warrant their repairs, I was told to either pay more, or call someone else. Pros: There are no pros Cons: They do not stand behind the service they do not provide. more

In the end, he claims the parts house sent in the wrong part twice and they don't know what to do. DUH - get a new parts house. These guys s..k!! Pros: Can you say ZERO??? Cons: Every aspect of thier business more

I had called them for help with my dryer. After about 15 minutes the guy said that he was going to order me a part and we would get it 2 days later and it would be around $200. A week goes by and the people finally show up. After another 15 minutes the guy says there is nothing he can do to fix it. After he left I took the dryer apart and noticed that a wheel for the drum was laying on the base of the machine. I put it back on and it was fixed. For a Family run operation, they are really lacking in values. Pros: There are other places you can call Cons: they are still in business and it is gong to happen to someone else more

Bad Service 12/23/2005

A service man came out to work on my dryer. The following day the dryer belt came off. They have a policy/warranty, so I called them back in. I was told that the exact service person had to come back, otherwise they would have to charge me again. I've waited for a week now...no call back. Be advised! Pros: none Cons: seems shady more
