Great place to dine with comfort 7/22/2009

If you are brown don't even bother 12/30/2008

My husband and I are always looking for good food and great service. I can't say anything about their food since we weren't even served. They sat us in a corner were we were completely forgotten. After 15 minutes someone came to take our drink order by this time we already had plenty of time to check out the menu so we also placed our order. Another 15 minutes went by and still no drinks not even water . At first I thought I thought it was just busy but when I saw other guests (not brown like us) which had come after we had and were getting their drinks and appetizers served, I had seen enough and walked out. Not to my surprise they did not even bother to ask as to why we were leaving. Instead I went to drop my $100 at Azuka where the sushi was fresh and exquisite and the service was superb. more

The place for sushi on the westside 11/8/2008

U Zen is the best. My husband and I have been going there for over 7 years and the service and food is always incredible. High quality sushi, price is reasonable, service is excellent. Like spicy - JJ Roll, want to try local stuff, ask the sushi chef what is best. We only go to this place for sushi! Pros: sushi chefs, food, low key Cons: somewhat small so if you come when its busy, it can take a while more

Quiet and Kind 8/2/2007

I went here last night with my family. The food was really good although some of their specialty rolls were too large for my taste. My grandmother's was only two pieces but each was the size of a tea cup. The Dumpling soup was delicious. I definately recommend it. and the staff was really friendly. It was my birthday which they overheard us say as we were walking in and they suprised me with a bowl of ice cream with a candle in it. It was so sweet! I was so suprised! Pros: Good food, little parking lot, really nice people more

I always feel better after eating the delicious sushi/sashimi here and enjoying the kind service.. 11/20/2006

The chefs are skilled and most attentive and friendly, as is the service. I've found the food to always be well preparerd, fresh and most satisfying. I've eaten sushi all over L. A. and Orange counties and this is still my favorite place. I may be prejudiced because the restaurant is within walking distance for me, but I visit or take-out two to three times a week. Last Friday I had sockeye salmon sashimi with roe prepared with onion/pepper garnish and a sliced/fanned cucumber that was just heavenly. Also had live scallop sushi and albacore usuzukuri sashimi that I will not soon forget. The price was reasonable and very well worth it.\r \r The house rolls are big and tasty ( I particularly prefer the Crunchy Roll and hot jalepeno JJ Roll) and I have got to have the simple scallop cut roll (unsimplified with a bit of masago and cucumber) at least once a week.\r \r The fresh fruit at the conclusion of the meal is ideal.\r \r I love U-Zen and I'm a very particular person/eater (super taster-type). Highly recommended.\r \r more

Solid sushi experience 11/12/2006

One of the few places in LA that offers kampyo, U-Zen is my go-to spot when I need a sushi fix. Whether I dine in or order to go, the service is always fast and friendly and the quality of food is always high. For those who love more exotic sushi offerings, however, such as elaborate and complicated rolls, this is not the place to go. U-Zen is great for the basics. It's also a good place to go with non-sushi eaters because they have so many good alternative offerings, such as sukiyaki, tempura and a full dinner menu. Pros: food, service, easy parking more

Pretty good 8/26/2006

I like going to U-zen when i'm not in the mood for overcrowded sushi restaurants. the sushi is good and decent-priced. if you can afford to splurge a little, try the toro if you've never tried it, it melts in your mouth. Pros: Not crowded, good food, attentive staff more

Decent, not amazing. 6/16/2006

The service at U-Zen is super friendly and attentive. Sushi was fresh but not blow-you-away tasty. The cooked items were worthwhile, including tempura and the tofu tower. It's a nice price for everything you'll get. A good standby, but don't go out of your way. Pros: Not expensive, friendly staff more

Best of the best sushi in LA 6/9/2006

If you are looking for a casual sushi night out, this is the place. Great service and super friendly servers and hilarious sushi chefs! They offer authentic Japanese menu and fish are always fresh. Be sure to ask the fresh catch of the day. Not sure what to order? Let the chef decide for you - ""surprise me"" - you'll never be dissapointed! more

Delicious 1/26/2006

I LOVE the sushi here, it is always so fresh, even the uni...which can be a little scary when it's not fresh. The rolls are creative and tastey and the oyster shooters are fun. It's an easy going and friendly environment, nice after a long day of work. Pros: Fresh sushi, friendly staff more

User review by klester22 1/14/2006

I've enjoyed this restaurant at least a dozen times and have always been very pleased with the food and the service. I know it says they don't take reservations, but I've made reservations several times, even on a Saturday and never had a problem, even if they're packed. The staff is great! more

Great neighborhood quality sushi 5/26/2005

I have eaten here with my wife a bunch of times. The food (we only eat the sushi) is excellent. What we also enjoy is the personal touch and the friendlyness of the sushi chefs and the fruit dessert at the end of the meal. This place is great and we plan on going here for a very long time. And the price is right too. We recently ate at one of the coveted sushi restaurants in Los Angeles, one thats impersonal and felt more like a cafeteria or a factory, but an excellent raw bar. Uzen lives up to the best. I highly recommend it. Pros: Great Food, Great price, friendly chefs more

Delicious Sushi and Great Value 5/4/2005

We were pleasantly surprised when we ate at this sushi restaurant this past Wed. night. The sushi was delicious - high quality ingredients and inventive specialty roll options. We also loved the appetizers, especially the tofu tower - a mix of tempura vegtables and tofu in a tantalizing tower. The service was excellent and the interior is small, but cozy and nicely appointed. This is our new favorite neighborhood sushi place! more
