Club Tropicana Friday Night 7/15/2009

The crowd is about 29 and up. I couldn't find my age group, I'm 25. Valet cost $7 for the back parking, $10 for closer valet parking. Cover charge is $12 and 1 corona is $7. If you just want to hang out, you have to have a reserve table. There is little room to just stay standing around, so you either dance or get a reserve table. Not many people like the smoke machine because everyone leaves the dance floor when it starts pouring and does it pour. Pros: nice restrooms, everyone says "yes" to dancing Cons: No self parking, small dance floor, smoke pours on you more

Great! 5/16/2009

Went here for my birthday and had an awesome time! Got in for free (if its your birthday). The music was great. Orchestra Salerum really kept the party going! Nice size dance floor considering it got pretty crowded after 11pm. Wait staff was a little slow, but then it was a busy saturday night. Overall i had a blast, will definately go again! Pros: Live Music Saturdays, Valet, Dance floor Cons: parking (unless you do valet), wait staff more

Love it!!!! 3/4/2009

Great place, awesome atmosphere more

Club Tropicana SATURDAY NIGHTS w/ SALMERUM!! 2/17/2009

Still the BEST place for salsa/merengue/bachata on Saturday night!!! La Orquesta Salmerum keeps bringing it with new music all the time...the band is impressive sounding. Thought I walked in on the DJ and it was the band playing Aguanile!! They also play at Plaza 59 (Hillcroft and 59) on Friday nights...another nice play to go check them out. Their bachata tunes also sound great with one of the musicians from the back coming up on the bachatas to sing. The restrooms are clean and the people are friendly. Latinos, asians, blacks and whites all getting along and having a good time dancing! Love it! Pros: Great atmosphere and incredible live music. Cons: No self parking. more

Tropicana 1/8/2009

l ve been going there for a year already and i love it! I love the fact that its a mature crowd 20's 30's even 40's!Everyone is down to earth and easy going , theres no fights going on, at least on Saturday when I go! I recommend Saturday than Friday , the band is much better on Saturdays.Grupo Salmerun are awsome , i think they are better than the DJ. There no lil girls and boys everywhere you look.If youre looking for a hot spot to dance SALSA , this is the spot to go to.Also even asian ppl are there dancing , the dance floor is small because alot of ppl go.You have to reserve tables to sit or come early to get one.Parking horrible especially after 1030 and you have to vallet park even if you dont the still charge the same. So before you get in the dance floor you will already have spent $$16 . $6. parking and $10 cover! but it will be well worth it!Oh and the most important part GOOD LOOKING PPL!!! If you dont like merengue bachata n salsa this is NOT the spot for you! Pros: mature crowd, awsome music, friendly enviroment Cons: Parking,a little expensive, a little small for the crowd, not alot of place to sit more

the best in Houston so far 8/17/2008

I have been looking for a good salsa club just like in LA but this is the best by far! I love Salsa dancing and this place has great music, I don't want to leave the dance floor. The restrooms are clean and nice, the people are cool and nice too. the only thing I hate is the parking and the drinks they need to be better but you get what you pay for! this place is hiding in this ugly shopping center they need to get a bigger place! Pros: good music, nice restrooms, and nice peeps Cons: parking, drinks, more

great to dance, not so much to chill 4/7/2008

I have to say that I love this place. Its not filled with the just-turned-18-crowd. The live music always makes things feel more romantic. Its never to crowded to dance. You don?t have to worry about being stepped on or pushed around. The place is always clean-looking. The drinks are normal, nothing special about then. The only thing that keeps me from giving a 5 stars is the staff. I?ve been there several times, with my boyfriend and small group of friends, and the service is always the same. It takes forever to get your order taken. I am a great tipper, but I expect to be taken care of too. I usually spend as much on the server as on the drink its self, but this people just don?t cut it for me. They are not rude, but I want to be asked for my next order once my drink is finished. It?s a great place to go if you are a good dancer. Not many people that don?t already know how to dance go there. I love it! Pros: live music, crowd past 25years old Cons: slow service more

Disappointing 3/1/2008

I can only recommend this place for seasoned dancers. I went early on a Saturday evening hoping to take advantage of their "lessons" which are noted here and on their website. Unfortunately, after traveling very far (I live across town), waiting (they didn't open at 9), paying $16 to get in ($6 parking, $10 cover), and probably a good 20% premium for drinks ($5 for a Heineken), there were no lessons to be found. An attendant confided they arbitrarily decide to do lessons depending on turnout. Surprisingly, there seemed to be enough people there... both men and women. I have been to similar clubs (not Latin of course) where things were much better organized and you didn't have to pay $$ to find out the hard way. The inside was nice, the dance floor good, and the sound system was adequate for dancing. I did get the sense I was not part of the "clique" from the start. To make matters worse management wasn't terribly friendly either. If you are a good dancer I think you can have a good time here, but if you are like me, someone trying to find a regular place with his girl to become a better Salsa dancer, you might be better off trying one of the other places... I will. Pros: Good for seasoned dancers Cons: Parking, cost, feel more

Boring and Dissapointed!! 1/7/2008

Everytime I come here I encounter a problem, mostly management, but since it's been years that I've been here I decided to give it another opportunity. Big mistake! I came here for their "New Years Eve" bash that they were doing ( I should have stayed home). First, there was only 1 vallet person, so it took forever for them to take my car. Second, the hostess was a total BI&CH!!!!!!! She asked us for our name and sat us down for our table. My cousin and her friend got up to chat with the bartender (since her friend knew him). When the hostess saw this, she came over and told us to sit down and our waiter would take our drink orders. After we told her that we were only chatting with him, she got embarresed. She then asked us if we were really the ones who reserved our table and asked us more details (our phone #). When we gave it to her, she told us that was not the phone # she had written down. My cousin, who made the reservtions, told her who she called to make the reservation, but the hostess did not listen. She told us that she was taking the table back and thought we would be ok about it. I went up straight to the manager and totally went off. He was cool about it and let us have the table. Which made the hostess mad and she gave us dirty looks the whole time. Let me tell you, the place was dead and there were so many tables that were "reserved" that never got used. The music was ok the least and Mi Rumba, supriseingly, sucked. They didn't have any emotion whatsoever. They actually left @ midnight and didn't know if they were coming back "what"??? We left around the same time. Never going back!!! Pros: very nice inside Cons: rude service, vallet, disorganized more

PLAZA 59 12/25/2007

I ALSO THINK THAT PLAZA59 IT'S BETTER ON FRIDAY IF YOU HAVE NOT BEING THERE YET I REALLY RECOMMENDED SALMERU PLAYS THERE ON FRIDAY AND THEY ALSO HAVE DJ SALSERIN AND ON WEDNESDAY IS GOOD TOO THEY HAVE DR RATED 'R' FROM 104.9 THEY PLAY MERENGUE,SALSA,BACHATA YOU NAME IT Pros: GOOD VALET PARKING more

Saturdays are the best! 10/28/2007

Fridays are better at Plaza59 now, and Saturdays have become the best nights for going to Tropicana. DJ Lino and DJ Mickey do a good job mixing in audio and video, and there is no band that compares to La Orquesta Salmerum right now. Saw them open for Puerto Rican Power at the Puerto Rican/Cuban Festival and I thought they were actually better. Mi Rumba now plays every other Friday...they still sound pretty good too. Pros: $10 to see Salmerum is a steal Cons: You have to valet park more

Avoid to go 6/25/2007
