Worst Club Experience Ever! 10/19/2008

We were promised free entrance til midnight which didn't happen! We even had text messages from 4FANTASTICOS that we tried to show but OSCAR (the front door bouncer) refused to let us in for free, and threatened to charge us $20 each if the text messages were forwarded...The damn text even said "FORWARD TO FRIENDS PLZ" at the bottom.!!!! 6 out of 9 of us paid anyway since our party bus left and we just wanted to have a good time. My boyfiend and I later spoke with Oscar (who was rude and gave us an atitude when I questioned the false advertistment)....he then got us free drinks and gave us his number for our troubles.... About 20 minutes later, my friend (who was feeling sick all day) threw up in a small trash can descretely, as I walked to the restroom with her we were bum rushed by these rent a cops and we were forcefullly kicked out without reasoning. The security did not answer any of my questions or get the manager as I requested since I had just spoken with him.... (might I mention that my boyfriend, who tried to ask one of the security guards what was going on, was practically carried out with his head down when he didn't even resist or give them trouble.... This was after our party bought 2 bottles!! Not only was this very humiliating but we were furious for the way this club and it's staff handled our situation! I will tell everyone I know never to step foot in this horrible club, especially when they plan to celebrate their birthday! Pros: music was alright Cons: security and staff are rude and unfair, false advertising! more

3rd time's the charm...? 1/27/2008

The very first time I came to Transit was for NYE 2004/05. That night was a really fun night with champagne and all. The next time I came was for the Valentine's party that same year. This night, however, didn't go so well for reasons I don't remember (or don't care to remember). So when it was time to choose a spot to celebrate my birthday, I was pretty hesitant to choose Transit. I guess what did it for me (on paper) was the music selection they played which would've suited my guests (if they did show up, but that's another story). Well, for the most part they were true to their package which is always a plus. They did give me n my guests free cover n a bottle of champagne and free drinks for an hour (even though it was domestic beers and well drinks). I wasn't in time to get a table, so the top of the speaker is where we had to park our stuff. But despite being absent from the place since the Valentine's party, little has changed. I guess that the only gripe I have about the place is the long line outside (especially in the cold, but they do a full patdown at the door), the snotty coat check girls who didn't give me a ticket for my coat and accused me I left it at the bar when all along they never gave me one, and how the rooms were separated. of course, the main room pumped out current dance music, behind the main room played hip hop in a already cramped area, and on the 2nd floor the DJ was playing bachata. I guess I do like the place, after all they did back up their word on the bday package. i just don't know why I can't give them a higher rating, there's always "something missing". Pros: Ceaper than the downtown clubs, diverse crowd, music for all types of people Cons: coat check girls had an attitude, not enough tables for parties more

Beware of Host Brad Altman and his Saturday "NIGHTMARE"!!! 12/1/2006

In the mood for HUMILIATION, ANGER, EMBARRASMENT,and BETRAYEL all while dressed in your Saturday Night Finest?! Ready to recieve dozens of angry text messages and phone calls from people who wasted their gas traveling miles from all parts of the Chicagoland area and it's surrounding subburbs for a party that WAS NOT there!!! Are you up for being disrespected, yelled at, and cursed at by bouncers and front door staff that treat YOU like liars!!!! Then by all means disregard this post and book your next birthday bash @ TRANSIT NIGHTCLUB on Saturday, hosted by Brad Altman!!!! ON November 4th 2006 after nearly a month of correspondance and confirmations, Me, the guest of honor I planned the party for, an over 50 of his guests ( arriving throughout the evening) recieved a surprise from brad and the folks at Transit nightclub... Brad Altman was not there. The "VIP" number he gave us to call before we arrived went straight to voicemail all 3 times I called. The bouncers at the front door had no idea about any party. They didn't care about the papers I had brought with me as proof I had talken to Brad. They told us to Pay 20$ to get in or leave. Nevermind the Champagne toast or the reserved VIP mezzanine level I was promised, We couldn't even get through the front door!!!!!!!! So good luck planning a party @ TRANSIT through Brad Altman, you're gonna need it. and you're also gonna need this ........ 312-919-3761 Brad Altman's "personal cell number"!!! (VERY IMPORTANT P.S. Bouncers and Managers handling entrance to the club have become increaseingly rude and dismissive to BLACK patrons. The last night I was there and other nights prior, I would see groups of Black clubgoers head towards the club and only a few minutes later head back toward their cars without ever getting inside. I stopped and asked them where they were going and was told they weren't allowed in for various reasons; no untucked dress shirts, no girl's logo-tees, etc. Just a warning!!!) Cons: Entrance staff: Rude Nightmare more

Worst place ever!!!!!!!!! 11/13/2006

Transit sucked last saturday 11-11-06. Had attended a bday party here in April, it was awesome. VIP area was actually VIP. We had a reserved spot in the marquee room, accesible with bracelet only. Had champagne toast, it was great. Not last sat. No reserved area, no bracelets, no nothing. Anyone could come and go as they pleased, that meant everyone had free open bar. When the birthday girl arrived for her party they just pointed in the general direction of the marquee room, no host at all. All we heard all night was hip hop, no variety what so ever. We're still waiting for the champagne. I was truly disappointed/embarrassed because it was my friend's first real club experience and it was awful thanks to my recommendation. I will never recommend this place to anyone ever again !!!! Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Not so great a place anymore 10/24/2006

Use to come here and the music and the crowd was great. Now it's crowded with guys standing around staring and couples that need to get a room. Music isn't so great anymore and people seem to like to stand on the dance floor. Not worth the cover. Management needs to clean the place up. Dress code is just casual. Valet also scratched the car. Don't bother to come here on a Saturday. Pros: Music is decent Cons: Usual crowd is "casual" more

Skanks everywhere. 10/24/2006

I have been to transit several times but every time I go it is just packed with skanky girls trying to look like strippers up on the poles. I would not go there on a date. Very packed, dancing is good. I don't like this bartender though. I asked her for salt for my corona and she threw three packets at me. Pros: fun to hang with friends Cons: too crowded, not worth the admission more

TRASHY CROWD AND VERY IRRESPONSIBLE CREW MEMBERS - SAFETY PROBLEMS 9/7/2006

TRASHY CROWD, VERY IRRESPONSIBLE CREW MEMBERS, SAFETY PROBLEMS, NOT A GOOD FOR SOPHISTICATED CROWD, NEVER EVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE TO GO THERE. PEOPLE ARE NOT HELPFUL WHO WORKS THERE, SURROUNDING IS NOT CLEAN AND SAFE. more

Worst Night Club ever 8/18/2006

Would not allow in because of gym shoes, sandals fine but no gym shoes and they insist that website has dress code. Where? Also says ample parking, ya goodluck waiting in parking line for an hour. Not recommend, better off going to a bar. What a joke!!! more

Worst experience of my life!!!! 7/26/2006

I booked my birthday party there and I did not get anything I was promised. I did not get a section, I was promised my friends would get in free until 12:30 a.m. they were charged full price. The bouncers told my friend he could not come in because the club was too full, yet they were still letting other people in. The owner was very rude and treated us very disrespectfull. When my fiancee tried to explain the problems we were having and what we had been promised by his promoters he stated that he had doormen for that and walked away from him. When my fiancee saw him again about half an hour later he asked him if he could have a moment of his time, the owner said no and turned and walked towards the bouncers and told them not to let my fiancee back in. When I went outside to see what was going on the bouncer told me to go ahead and talk to my fiancee and that he would let me back in. When the owner saw me talking to my fiancee he approached the same doorman that had just told me it was ok to go outside and told him not to allow me back in. I then approached the owner and told him that I would leave but I just needed to go back in to tell my friends that I was leaving he said no and got in front of me. The promoters, owner and bouncers were all saying something different. I had never had such a horrible experince. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLUB TO MY WORST ENEMY. Pros: NONE more

VIP 9/9/2005

I've been to many clubs in Chicago... and i've been going to Transit for about 2 yrs... this club is by far the best and only one i go to every thursdays and saturdays... if you haven't been here yet... i highly suggest that you go... this club has a wonderful atmosphere and the best drinks for a cheap price... the play all different genres of music... so you can pretty much dance to anything... more

don't waste your time! 6/1/2005

A caveat: my friends and I did not actually go inside this club. They must have a new doorman since 2003, because the current doorman is a blowhard. I'll spare the details, but suffice it to say that there was a guestlist misunderstanding (we were supposed to be on the free list, but the doorman tried to charge us half-price anyway, so we left). Go somewhere else instead that's both classier and more respectful -- they're not hard to find (we went to soundbar). Pros: in the city Cons: blowhard doorman more

Great Dancing... 8/15/2003

This is a great place to go that I've been to in Chicago to dance the night away to great house tunes. The DJ played a great mix and the martinis were pretty good!! Interesting female dancers on the blocks created good entertainment as well. Pros: Great Music, Good Looking People Cons: Service, Too Hot more

There are better places to spend your $$ 7/23/2003

This place has pretty good decor, but I wouldn't go again except for a Thursday when a real DJ is there. As another poster stated, the DJ really needed to update his vinyl -- I'm sorry, but I'd like to hear something new when I'm out clubbing, not Alice Deejay and Mousse T. Crowd was a bunch of really shady types, both male and female; the paid dancers were pretty good at what they do. Really cool bartender at the back bar though, she was the only truly good part about the night, but it sure wasn't worth paying to get in. Pros: Decent decor, Has potential... Cons: Bad neignborhood, Lousy music, Cheesy Saturday crowd more

SUCKED 3/11/2003

BOUNCER WAS NICE, BUT AFTER THAT THE NIGHT WAS A DRAG. COAT CHECK PEOPLE WERE SLOW, AND UNFRIENDLY, BARTENDERS WERE COCKY, MUSIC WAS FROM TWO YEARS AGO, CROWD WAS BORING!!!!! MY GROUP COULD ONLY STAND AN HOUR BEFORE WE ALMOST FELL ASLEEP FROM BOREDOM. NOT TO MENTION WAY OVERPRICED!!!!! Pros: NICE BOUNCER Cons: OVERPRICED, BAD MUSIC SELECTION, BORING CROWD more

GOOD ASS DANCERS 1/28/2003

GOOD DANCERS VERY COMPETIVE AND VERY GOOD MUSIC AND PARKINK FOR ME THET IS! more

Fabulous 1/20/2003

Saturday nights Flo at Transit w/Tommy Z Productions is the best danceclub in town. Great hospitality from front door man Joe Spice and awesome service at the bar. No long lines and the club is filled w/beautiful people. Pros: Plenty of Parking, No Lines, Great Staff more

DJ's totally hittin it on Thur and Sat nites. While Fridays serves it's purpose for the latin dancer in you. Check it out! Pros: DJ's can groove, Good dance floor Cons: High cover and drinks more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Modern and spacious, this converted industrial complex is perfectly outfitted for electronic-dance enthusiasts, but attracts a far broader spectrum of casually clubbing young decadents. Little wonder, as each of the four main rooms look sharp and have their own bars. Most dancing takes place on the 1,500-square-foot dance floor under swirling red lights in the Oval, while R&B thumps the lounge-y mezzanine upstairs. The minimal VIP Blue Room has Eames-type tables for chilling out; and social butterflies circle the glowing Light Bar, tucked all the way in back.

    The Draw
As for drinks, heavy-hitters down Red Bull and vodka to keep up with the beats late into the night. Local promoters such as Pure bring electronic-music DJs from around the world, and the likes of Tommy Z throw parties for sexy people. It's a good place for dancing for those who like straight-ahead high-energy stuff.
