Best buffet EVER! 8/11/2011

Perhaps I found it so amazing because I generally consider buffet restaurants to be of poor quality, but I really thought this place was amazing. So much variety and so many cultures represented! Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese- they even had maduro!!! (fried plantains) Amazing beef, chicken, seafood, and sushi. My least favorite was the dessert which is totally fine by me. When the rest of the food is that good, who saves room for dessert?? more

Not all that great but good enough 5/5/2011

I went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The atmosphere is quiet and nice, which I like but the food was not all that wonderful to me. Service is okay, overall it was a decent dinner. Might not be on my top favorites but I can I've them another chance in case a friend or somebody I know wants to go again. more

17 per person, worst spent money 4/27/2011

i go to celebrate my anniversary to have a meal for two (34 not including beverage, tips or tax). starting off the waiters looked like they've never smiled in their life, bothered when asked for anything, and seems like they're only good for picking up plates, didn't even refill our drinks. the meat guy also bad attitude, and when i asked for a specific meat on the menu, he said this is what i have (they advertise different meats but cook what they want?!) i said my husband only eats meat cooked well, what do you have? and he just served him different meats on his plates, not one was cooked passed medium! the sushi offered is not the usual that you would get lets say kona miyako, very off things. not one thing was consired yummy, all items were ""allright"", even the dessert, the only good part were the cookies so we filled up on that. i feel i spent over 40 on cookies. they use to have the meat brought to the tables like fogo de chao with the green and red card but got rid of that which was the best part, the meat was the reason we went and it had alot of fat! not going there again. more

Take more then you sign for 1/24/2011

I've gone twice- first with a friend and second with my wife. All you can eat meat for me and sushi for her- can't be beat. Although it's mostly self service for lunch, the service was good- never had an empty cup. Unfortunately a good experience was ruined when I saw my bank account- I tipped well, 20% (especially being a self service all you can eat type of place) but it looks like the staff wasn't happy with that. They decided to take more than I offered (signed for) and rounded up. Granted, we're talking 80 cents here, but I still felt jipped. more

Best Sushi Restaurant -- and now that have Brazillian meats! 12/20/2010

This will be the second year where we're bringing our staff to Todai for our year-end party. Last year, they totally enjoyed it and just loved the quality and variety. We all had a great time! more

Stomache Upset Todai 10/18/2010

I have read so many reviews about this resturant that I could not wait to go! I wished I had of waited to NEVER! more

Huge Seafood Buffet 8/8/2010

This buffet has a ton of different kinds of seafood. I've actually experienced the most ""out there"" food item at Todai...salmon fish eggs. They're little jelly like balls about the size of jelly beans. When I put them into my mouth and bit down, the eggs burst and release a really salty liquid. more

Sad Birthday Girl 7/29/2009

We went to Todai Monday for my birthday. The meal started out with an ICE COLD glass of Cabernet. I had to send that back. The buffet looked like things on it had been out since lunch. It was only 7:30 and half of the offerings were either extremely picked over or just GONE. Some of the sushi had a funny smell to it and the Ebi was like rubber. At least the Miso Soup was good, but how can you screw that up... Pros: Nice waitstaff Cons: HORRIBLE food more

Very Good, But Overpriced 6/22/2009

This would be a 5 star place if it was more reasonable priced. On a week, the dinner is $31.95, which is too much for this place. $21.95 would be more in line with this type of place. Even a child over 6 has to pay 1/2, which is way too much for a child based on what they can eat. Lower the price and this place will be a 5 star place. Pros: Great selection; conveniant location; great service Cons: Overpriced more

Best Sushi Buffet in Town - PLUS MORE! 2/17/2009

This sushi buffet def beats Kirin and TokyoOne by far! Kirin def isn't as fresh as Todai and TokyoOne has a super weak selection compared to Todai. Pros: Variety, Freshness, Service more

Total disaster in Todai Houston 2/9/2009

OOOps we did it again! Disappointing experience ! For the second time Todai proved that first impression is the right impression! Bad service so is the food ! Slow and ignorant waiters! I would not recommend it to my enemy even! Pros: if you still want to eat there are other restaurants nearby Cons: Bad food, worse service more

Best of both world 12/10/2008

Sushi and oyster was fresh, Churrasco was excellent and seasoned perfectly the way I like. Chimichurri was authentic. Ambience was impressive. The only problem was that my stomach was not big enough to try them all. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves cruise dining on land. more

Totally Todai! 11/29/2008

Great quality, amazing variety and superb service...an overall wonderful experience! I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant to anyone who is looking to impress their guests with an experience that they will never forget. Pros: Location, quality and variety Cons: None noted more

Good food but a little expensive 11/18/2008

I love their food really much. Especially, I visit there to have lots of different kinds of sushi. Big chunk of fish on top of small rice makes me satisfied. They are so tasty and fresh. Pros: Good food Cons: Expensive more

Excellent Food and Service 9/10/2008

Took a couple of comrades to dine after a business meeting. We were surprised about the new changes. Excellent food and selection of wines. Party of twelve that night, all of us raving the next day about the experience. The manager even gave us a private area away from the kids. Looking forward to the next visit. more

Extremely below average food items and equally atrocious service. 8/29/2008

Atmosphere: Awful. Food: Downright terrible. Service: Doesn't even exist. Cons: Food and Service more

True All You Can Eat 8/15/2008

I visited Todai San Jose a while back when I lived in SF Bay Area. The Todai in Houston is better. They also have Brazilian/Argentinian steak. I thought it's a creative idea to combine Sushi and Churascarria. For me, Sushi is the best way to enjoy seafood and Churascarria is the best way to get the natural simple taste of meats. I would definitely come back! Pros: Great value. Good food. Cons: It's hard to choose with such great choices. more

The Best of two worlds 8/6/2008

If your looking for a cross between the fancy brazilian steak buffet place here in town and great sushi this is the place to go. I took my wife there for her birthday last night and we both had a delightful dinner experience. The hostess that seated us did seem somewhat disinterested but the waitstaff had us forgetting that rather quickly. The waiters made sure we had everything we needed in a timely fashion. The skewers with flavorful meats were coming in a constant flow. Even at closing time the waitstaff were still asking if we would like anything else to top off our meal. I believe this is a definite step in the right direction for what was already a sucessful dining experience. Great waitstaff and food for the money. Pros: Two great buffets at one reasonable price Cons: Diet killer to be sure. To many good food options. more

Best of Both World 8/1/2008

I recently heard from a friend that todai is now serving steaks. I personally am a sushi lover but my girlfriend just loves steaks and we always debating where we're dining out. So i decided to give todai a try. After finally finding a parking space, we entered to be greeted by a server. With a very happy personality he explained to us how everything works. I love the fact that even though its a buffet the sushi was made to order and our server kept making sure if we needed any more orders. I personally love the Hawaiian poke. My gf was overwhelmed by the big selection of steaks that they had to offered. Through out our dining there not only that we received good service from our server but every time any other server would walk by they would ask us how we doing and if we needed anything. Finally I found a decent restaurant where both me and my girlfriend can enjoy and where the service staff is actually happy with their job. Pros: all you can eat sushi and steaks.. CANT BEAT THAT Cons: place was a lil bit smokey from the grill more

Best Run for the Money 8/1/2008

This was my first visit since September. Upon entering the restaurant we noticed a couple of signs that caught our attention. ""Churrascaria"" and ""Live Jazz"". Is this really Todai? We peaked our head in and was greeted by the sound of jazz and a host who sat us promptly. After a somewhat lengthy introduction we started first with the sashimi and rolls. When we sat down our server ordered some spider handrolls for us. Fresh, but took a lil longer then expected to come to the table. It was okay though, we had already flipped our card on green and was approached with so many different type of steaks. My favorite, pichanna and filet mignon. Just the way a Brazilian likes it, saltier than usual. :) Service was friendly and prompt and a waiter was always there to make sure the table was clean. My favorite part, the bill. 30 bucks for all you can eat sushi and steaks? This has got to be the best bargain in town! Pros: Live Jazz on Thursday, Surf and Turf Cons: It cost me $10 to get here. more
