I've been here a couple times with some Canadian friends, and each time has been great. There's a great atmosphere here, and not the people aren't pretentious like other places i...

I was there to watch the hometown Rockets play the Jazz in the playoffs and to my surprise when I got there, only one tv was tuned into the Rockets game and the rest were showing ...

Best pub in Houston 8/30/2007

My boyfriend and I discovered this place in March of 2007. It's become our favorite place to hang out and enjoy a pint (or two, or three!). Sean (the owner) and his wife couldn't be nicer, and we've certainly become regulars. It's also one of the only places in town with Woodchuck Amber on tap, and that certainly doesn't hurt. Pros: Parking, great staff, clean restrooms Cons: Needs an internet jukebox for more variety more

TERRIFIC PLACE TO HANG OUT 5/31/2007

Maple Leaf is one of my favorite places to hang out. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. The TV's are perfectly perched above the bar so that you don't have to crane your neck. The jukebox is awesome with a wide variety of music that is not too loud. The people that frequent this pub are not snobby but are polished and professional looking. Yes, there is not a kitchen on the premises but hey, eat before you go out. If you are really hungry the bartenders have a bunch of menus they will give you. I like that the Maple Leaf is chilled out and comfortable every time I have been there. I am one of the rare Houston born hockey fans and the best part of the pub is the hockey motif and a chance to swap hockey stories, etc. I will recommend the Maple Leaf every chance I get! Good job, guys! Pros: Cool people, good atmosphere, HOCKEY Cons: No kitchen....but no biggie more

Bringing Hockey, Hard Hits, and a Hell of a Good Time to Houston 5/1/2007

Being a Buffalo/Niagara Falls native, it's hard to find a place down here to catch a Sabres game. This is the first and only bar I've found in Houston to meet the needs or a big hockey fan. Notice I said ""bar"" and not ""night club"" because thats exactly what it is. Its a place where friends can get together and relax and get a little rowdy from time to time. Great TV's, great music, and the best beer selection in Houston (the only place I've found in Texas to carry Labatt Blue on tap!). I've been up there for almost every Sabres playoff game and everytime I go, there's always a great crowd in there (a lot of crazy Sabres fans like me) and everyone is extremely friendly. One of the best staffs at any bar I've been to. All the bartenders and waitresses are extremely friendly and helpful. The management is very warming and hospitable to thier guest. They go above and beyond what any bar owners should. The only downfall I can find with the place is that they don't have a kitchen. However, with Late Nite Pie and Gotham Pizza right nearby, they management has no problem with bringin in outside food (very hard to come by at any bar these days). Keep up the great work guys. I'm sure I'll be there even if there is no hockey on TV. Tell Scott to keep the Sabres gear on year round! Pros: Too much to mention Cons: No kitchen more

Only if there's nowhere else to go. 4/28/2007

My wife and I being from Kingston Ontario had heard about the pub and were looking for a good opportunity to check the place out, and what a better opportunity than to watch the Sens play the Devils. We were hoping for and expecting an electric atmosphere full of, if not Ottawa fans, then at least hockey fans. Upon entering the establishment, other than a table of three and the bar tender, the place was empty. As for being able to accommodating sport fans, 3 poorly placed and small plasma TVs. The music being played was a mix of older hip-hop, grunge and metal, all being played too loud to communicate with others. The bar tender was accommodating, but certainly not interested. I?m not sure what?s Canadian about this pub but after 15 minutes we left to spend some time at the Fox and Hound in the Woodlands, and were able to catch the beginning of the game and have a great evening. On the bright side, if you?re looking for an easy place to park, the ML has it nailed. Pros: Great parking and very clean. Cons: Stagnant environment. more

Great bar ... 3/30/2007

The last person with the stupid review. You have realize that you do not live in a Hockey town ... SO with that being said sometimes when big sporting events are going on you may not get to watch Hockey. In order for a bar to survive in Houston they have to sometimes show the BIGGER games. more

Not really a hockey bar. 3/24/2007

When I first found out about this place, I was pretty excited to have at last found and honest-to-goodness hockey bar in a city that really doesn't seem to know what ice is. So, on a Friday night I headed down there to watch some NCAA tournament hockey and my Colorado Avalanche, who were in a desperate race to make the playoffs. Upon entering the jukebox was blaring Alice in Chains, score one for the bar. I sat down at the bar and saw that 2 of the 5 TVs were showing basketball. 2 goals against the bar. I don't care if it's ""March Madness"" or the damn basketball championship of the universe- if you bill yourself as a ""hockey bar,"" you'd better not have 40% of your screens showing basketball instead of hockey. One could go to about 500 other bars and watch basketball. Pros: Easy parking, good juke box. Cons: TVs poorly placed. Snippy service. Not really a ""hockey"" bar. more

Great watering hole 3/23/2007

Excellent place. I just found it. I like the cold Rumplemintz and sassy staff! Try to stop by for a happy hour sometime. Pros: Witty and interesting patrons Cons: metrosexual Canadians more

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere 2/18/2007

Just began frequenting this bar not too long ago. Every single review written below is absolutely correct- the place is great! My girlfriend is a northerner very much into hockey. After going here a couple of times, she has converted me towards a real liking of the sport. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended. Didn't even think to order in while there until reading the review below, but now we plan to attend even more, especially to see the games. There really is a good selection of music and the staff is fantastic. Good location. more

Great atmosphere 12/27/2006

I stopped in and found it very clean, good beer selection and the help very good. The patrons were very talkative and friendly, thus the bar has a good feel. Of course, hockey being on TV is always good. I'm waiting to see aforementioned ""hot"" help however. I am definitely going to recommend this place to friends. more

Great Hang-Out! 11/20/2006

Come here for darts, draft beers, and good times. One caveat, there is no kitchen onsite. You will need to have dinner before coming to the pub or take advantage of their delivery menus (I reccommend ordering from the pizza place next door - they deliver quickly and the pizza is fantastic). I've had some great times here watching sports (hockey is preferred at the Maple Leaf, suprise!) and playing darts with a big groups of friends. Also, the bartender is very friendly and doesn't leave you with an empty glass! Pros: Sports-watching, darts, and draft beers Cons: No on-site kitchen, but can order from the next-door pizza place more

Great place to watch Hockey & listen to jukebox!!! 11/17/2006

I love this local midtown hang out..The people are friendly and the music is cool...I like the bartender and the board games they have to play there...HA~ Pros: Varities of beer and the atmosphere!! more

love it. wish it really had the good Canadian beers. 8/1/2006

Love this place. Great crowd and staff. My ONLY complaint would be that they don't have a good representation of Canadian beers. Labatt's is not representative of a country which takes GREAT pride in their beer. more

Do not ask for matches~ 7/30/2006

I love this bar!! I love it all, everybody is friendly and the specials are great! I love how they cater to the Service industry as I am a bartender and work all weekend! Ryan is the BEST, just do not ask him for a pack of matches, he might make you come up with a funny quote to write on the match book...You do not get what I mean? That means you need to go in!! I love that fact that they have blue moon on tap with, FRESH orange slices!! They keep the Shots cold and the shot glasses even colder!!! :) I love the ""cheers"" feel this place gets, i have made some good buddies since going there, I love it!! SO do not forget.. The leaf it is a great place to go by yourslef or with a group! Pros: staff, specials, atmosphere..heck EVERYTHING Cons: Not a darn thing more

go all the time and drink alot 6/20/2006

Wow. I love this bar. I have heard that it is too clean, and the bartenders are friendly, but what's wrong with that. Amanda and Ryan are soooo hot! Everything about this place rocks! Especially the ""waiter weekend"" They practically give the drinks away if your in the service industry (on sun-tue). But whatever happened to that chick with the glasses? Pros: Awesome staff... great view more

Canadian Paradise 6/11/2006

My first time to visit was June 10th it was game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals!. The place was rocking, the atmoshere was amazing. Great selection of beers, very friendly staff. I even got to meet the owner and his lovly wife. Im a canadian, and would recommend anyone who gets a little home sick from time to time, this is a great place to go. Thank you very much Maple Leaf and wish you great success! Go Oilers Pros: Great people, Great Staff, Lots of TV's and a wow factor Cons: Not enough of them in town! more

User review by holliemm 5/15/2006

This is a great new bar in midtown. I wasn't very familiar with Canadian beers and the bartender was very patient in explaining and allowing me to taste a few before deciding. The staff is always really friendly. The place is very clean while still having a comfortable Montrose feel- not like other trendy midtown bars. Great jukebox, spotless bathrooms. Pros: clean, parking, nice staff more

Great Bar, Great Location, Relaxed Atmosphere 5/12/2006

What a great place to catch a beer after work or take your friends to see a few games. Just roomy enough to have some space to yourself without being in a cavernous club. Jukebox selections were great and there wasn't a seat in the house without a view of the games on the giant televisions. Prices were average for your neighborhood bar, but much less than most of the other places in midtown. The best part - they have a parking lot!! We will be back. Pros: Parking!!!, Clean and Roomy, Good Prices more

User review by zeldac 5/4/2006

This is a great bar with a laid-back vibe. The service was friendly and prompt, the bathrooms were clean, and there was ample parking. I will definitely be hanging out there again. Pros: good parking, clean, good crowd more

Nice Neighborhood Bar 4/28/2006

I have been pleasantly surprised by this new bar. The jukebox is great, nice beer selection, clean atmosphere, and friendly staff. I would say the crowd tends to be in the 30+ range, but there is a good variety of types of folk. more
