New Owner 1/9/2011

Drive from the Clear Lake area to eat there and the food is still worth the drive but there is a new owner who has tweaked some of the recipes and not for the better. Use to love the salted cod but avoid it because the new recipe is not very good. more

authentic puerto rican food! 10/10/2009

This place is small but good things come in small packages! All of the food here is absolutely delicious but the carne frita is my favorite! This place has won tons of Marvin Zindler awards. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're back at home in Puerto Rico :) I would highly recommend this place to everyone! Pros: best mofongo in houston Cons: nothing more

Best food from La Isla 6/23/2009

Don Teo and Doña Carmen make you feel like you are back home.\r \r No matter what you select from the menu, the food is wonderful and tasty.\r \r Priceless! Pros: The authenticity is 100% Boricua more

Prices have gone up, food's still good 7/8/2008

Expect to pay around $18 for food and a drink. It's still tasty, but probably not worth the price. Pros: authentic Cons: expensive more

Mofongo y Chuleta, Ay mama! 6/2/2008

This place is awesome, i'm from Ecuador and the food is similar to ours but this place takes all on taste. Teo is adorable, and the wife is a doll. The chuletas could not of been done better, the Mofongo is finger lickingly good. Though this place is unformal and small it brings the ambience of being and eating at home. The price is right for the portion of food I truly recommend this place better than Isla Coqui(yuk). Mark my word GUARANTEED you will leave satisfied, I come from Richmond/Rosneberg for this almost every weekend. Pros: Few tables inside Cons: Food makes up for the wait more

Best Puetorican Food 4/3/2008

My husband took me there about 1year ago, I love it!! I work close to there now, I eat there once a week, my favorite POLLO GUISADO! people are so friendly they make you feel like home. more

worst puerto rican food ever 11/16/2007

the rice was under cooked the beans were over cooked the carne frita was ok and the tostones were perfect. the decor of this place reminds me of some of the small resturants u see in puerto rico but come on we are in texas. they didnt even have arroz con gandulez as a part of their menu or pastelles so imho as far as authenic there are better places.... i lived en la isla for 20 years and tex-chick had the worst puerto rican food i have ever had. ISLA COQUI is so much better and a better menu Pros: puerto ricans go there Cons: food is not great, very small more

It was just like Abuela makes! and The Prices were very reasonable! its nothing fancy, but Like I said Deffintely worth the trip! Pros: Food, Price, and Friendliness! more

AMAZING!! 6/7/2004

I have come back time after time and I always bring someone new with me who ends up loving it as much as I do! You feel very much at home chatting the people in the next table or joking around with the cute couple who run it. The food is wonderful and you come out wishing you knew who to cook it and if you are a flan lover this is one of the best! more

Constant Craving 2/28/2003

I can't help but to recruit new people to tag along every time I get a hankering for authentic Puerto Rican fare. The fried chicken breast is my favorite, and it took a while before I would order mofongo, but now I can't go without it. An appreciated detail is the chilled, crisp coconut soda from the help-yourself cooler. At about $8 a plate, you have plenty leftover - even if you come in with a roaring appetite. The flan ranks up there with some of the best in the city as well. more

Houston international retaurant scene is complete with this excellent Puertorrican retaurant. Rated year after year with the Famous Marvin Zindler Blue Ribbon Award, Tex-Chick provides not only wonderful authentic Puertorrican food, it also brings the spirit of its people through the service of the owners. This is the BEST KEPT SECRET in the Restaurant industry in Houston! You must try this place! Then you will know why Puerto Rico is also called ""The island of enchantment"". Pros: Personal Service, Food quaility, Foor fresheness Cons: small, few tables, parking more

El Rincon de Teo 7/3/2002

This couple have created an focal point within the Puerto Rican communtiy in Hoston. It's simplicty is a fond escape for those who miss the island. This five table restaurant attracts all Puerto Ricans. From the baseball field to the med center come as you are. The languge is Spanish, the attitude is boricua. El Chisme is always about the island. Tierd of tex-mex this is real treat. They have more blue ribbon awards that most of the top rated restaurants in this town. Pros: small, informal, true to culture more
