LOVE T.o.Tx. My favorite steakhouse in Houston. The meat is always super juicy and cooked to perfection! I cut my Filet with a fork last time! Waiters really know the menu and can...

Worst

Taste of Texas is good food but for a steak I would recommend Lynns STeakhouse off of Dairy Ashford. It is excellent service, food, and the setting is quiet. Alot of companies a...

Best Steaks 6/15/2004

The steaks are tender, cooked to perfection & absolutely delightful to sink ones teeth into! The salad bar is a meal in itself. I was thoroughly impressed! more

Aptly Named 5/30/2004

I was first introduced to Taste Of Texas when my son's 4th grade class visited there on a school field trip. Dining there is a thouroughly enjoyable event, from the well scrubbed, excrutiatingly polite staff to the endless supply of fresh baked breads to being able to specify how many ounces and which cut of steak your heart desires . Thoroughly professional, down home friendly and a total lack of pretension (Though I was amused by the explanation in the menu : What a tip is, How much and why you should pay it and that it wasn't already in the bill). Pros: Excellent Food, Great Service more

Wonderful 5/11/2004

4 of us had dinner Saturday night and what an experience. There was an hour wait but I was curious because I had heard such great things. Not only was the service amazing, the steaks were fabulous and you can even select the piece you want. The salad bar was great and there were tons of people celebrating their birthdays around us. It was a fun environment and the food and service were terrific. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Attentive Service, Parking more

cant dine over din. 4/5/2004

While the food was good, it was almost impossible to hold a conversation in the main dining area. My steak was rare, as I ordered it. Most restaurants can't seem to ubderstand what rare is. So credit for that. Service was decent, however maybe a bit rushed. Salad bars are passe. Pros: good food, good wine list Cons: , loud, service rushed more

Less Than The Best 3/11/2004

Obvious popular location based on the crowd, but having someone to talk to is the obvious attraction. The steaks are usually undercooked or overcooked. I have visited the restaurant more than three times and each time, the steaks had to be sent back because it was not prepared as requested. The lobster tails are really dry. The side dishes are less than stellar. A REALLY overrated establisment. more

Awesome! 3/11/2004

I visited Houston and had heard about Taste of Texas through several acquaintaces but never believed them. We had the Fillet Mignon, Porterhouse and Prime Rib. ALL were delicious and exceptionally prepared! Yum! Yum! Yum! For this reason alone i'd be willing to come back to Houston. Pros: Good parking, Great Service Cons: , Crowded, Limited Wine Selectio more

My experience at Taste of Texas 3/11/2004

The very best steak I've ever had. Great selection, great service, wonderful atmosphere, would definitely recommend anyone to go. more

Best Steak in Town 1/2/2004

The Taste of texas provides more food than most can manage, so come prepared to bring a doggy bag home. the atmosphere is fun and entertainig and is perfect for families or dates. The wait can tend to be some what long, but it is more than worth it. they also are generous to provie a waiting area with comp. sodas, chips and popcorn. If you haven't been here you are missing out Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Long wait , crowded more

Jim Broadway 11/18/2003

I think it is a very good family resturant but I don't think it rates number 1 as a steakhouse. To be a great steakhouse, the meat should be prime beef, number one and it should be an elegant with classic decor such as Ruth's or Pappas with similar type service. more

Good and Bad features 11/16/2003

I though the salad bar and bread was a good idea. When my children were younger they would have been happy to have this type of food served to them so quickly. The wine list was a bit pricey but good choices. My biggest complaint is I like steak but not such a big one. I like a 6 to 8 ounce steak and do not want to share one with someone else. I, also, do not like to take a steak home as they never reheat very well. Outside of that, service was even and very informative. This was the first time I had been there. But, quite asking if it is a ""special occasion"". They will tell you. Pros: Salad, Breads, Desserts Cons: Loud, Big food, Serving sizes more

Tastey Texas 11/15/2003

Ive been here many times, and have allways liked the food, and service, and the atmosphere. I go on off peak hours, and have never waited to be seated. I have tried most other steak houses in Houston, and this one is nice. But the cost is not worth it as a monthly place to go out. the service has allways been excellent for me. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, service Cons: price more

You pick-em 10/30/2003

Well well, I cannot believe some of these reviews! I have been to the Taste at least 50 times over the years, and only once, yes once, did I receive a steak (ribeye) which I felt need to go back. If you go to the rear of the resturant, next to the salad bar, you can pick your own cut of meat. Now, for those of you who feel you are a steak officianado; if you pick your own cut, then you cannot complain of its tenderness when served. So, if you want to experience a fine meal, at a reasonable price, then Taste of Texas is for you. Long waits? Well, yes, if you go at the top of the dinner hour. Worth the wait? Yes, and if you mosey on back to the bar, I suggest you try the Cinnamon Slammer. You talk about good!! more

All talk 10/28/2003

I moved here and heard this was the steak place to eat at.... Not at all. The atmosphere and service was good, but a steak eater goes somewhere for the food, which was average at best. more

Real Taste 9/25/2003

yes, Taste of Texas is very nice, the service is ok, and the food is good. But while there are fancier places to eat, the top of my list as far as taste and cut goes is either location of Perry's Steak House in Clear Lake, a suburb city of houston. In fact ive been to steak houses all over the world and Perry's is superior. more

Why all the negative reviews??? 9/17/2003

I can't believe all the negative reviews on one of my favorite steak places! I live in Austin, and I usually try to make it to this restaurant whenever I'm in houston. Trust me, I am an avid fine steak conniseur. I always order the filetmignon whenever I go to steakhouses. I've eaten at some of the top steakhouses around: Emeril's Delmonico in Vegas; Morton's of Chicago; Ruth Chris; Sullivan's in Austin; Fleming's in Austin; NOLA in New Orleans... Sure its not the finest steakhouse, but I still think Taste of TX has a filet that is just as good, and its a bargain compared to what some of the other places charge. Sure the wait is long but its worth it. Best value for the money in my opinion. I can't believe people whine about not having their salads served to them! I love the self serve salad bar! Pros: Price/Value, Filet mignon Cons: No Reservations, Crowded, Loud more

Taste of Golden Corral?? 8/20/2003

This is one of Houston's worst examples of steak houses. Unfortunately, they have a wonder setting and offer a ""good feeling"" of being in a Texas Eatery. But the food is lacking and not worth the price. If you want to enjoy the ambiance...eat CHICKEN!!! Save you Steakbuds for somewhere else. Pros: Setting, ambiance, salad bar Cons: steak, prices, wait more

Was once a favorite 5/15/2003

As is all too often the case, high standards are almost impossible to maintain. The service was once impeccable because every employee was hired based not only on their abilities but their own drive to succeed. My last three dining experiences were so poor it left me no other choice but to find another steak place. Once the best, now too much like all of the rest. more

LONG WAITS 5/15/2003

Although the steaks are fairly decent... the wait will drive a sane person to the brink.... If you have kids this is the place to go, if they don't mind waiting.. When paying those prices you certainly don't want to have to help yourself at the salad bar... I will always pick one of the other steakhouses in town, especially considering they take RESERVATIONS!!!! Pros: popular, good for kids Cons: loud, long waits, salad bar more

What a Disappointment 4/6/2003

What a disappointment and waste of time. I've heard so much about Taste of Texas--it's rated as one of the best steakhouses in Texas--so I was excited about going there and having a great steak. I could berate this restaurant for hours, but I'll just list my main criticisms. (1) For an expensive, upscale restaurant, I didn't expect to be herded into a waiting room with popcorn, cokes, and nachos. (2) The food absolutely was awful. I ordered a 16 oz rib eye, the best and most tender steak around, and I received a chunk of overcooked, tough, tasteless meat. I thought it was a tough sirloin. (3) Way overpriced for the value. I've had better steaks at bars. There are much better steakhouses around, especially in Houston not to waste your time there. Pros: Service Cons: Expensive, Poor Food Quality more

Bonanza 4/5/2003

If I have to stand in line for a steak, I'll not eat one. THis place, although the steaks are good, is more like an up-scale sizzler or Bonanza or Ryans. I like to have my salads prepared and delivered, rather than to be allowed to graze at the salad bar as many patrons do. Most of th steaks are USDA Choice Certifed Angus. Can someone describe how you certify an Angus? My Dachsund is registered too, but it doesn't mean every Dachsund is goiing to look, act or feel the same. Certified Black Angus is a Trademarked name only. Diners need to be informed of the differencecs of Select, Choice and Prime cuts as administered by the USDA. On a positive note, for this type of restaraunt, I'll put their wine lists besides al,ost any in Houston. Pros: Wine List Cons: Steaks, Waiting, Salad Bar Line more
