Friendly, Sincere, Direct 8/30/2010

My experience was wonderful at Dr. Shelly's. Her office was very accommodating to my schedule and fit me in anytime I called for an appointment. I like the at home environment of her Newbury St. office and the family clinic style set up. After any of my appointments, her office also followed up with me continually until my medications were transferred from my old PCP and worked rigorously w/ my insurance to have it all covered. I've had many problems with a variety of other PCPs, & I work in 2 different hospitals, so I encounter many Doc's who just don't care about listening to a patient's history before they shove pills at their patient's problems, but Dr. Shelly actually listened & gave me appropriate suggestions. She takes a more natural approach to medicine, so perhaps those who want pills to solve their problems may not find her so eager to prescribe. I found her office staff friendly, inviting, and sincere. She was direct about my treatment options and her recommendations. I'd recommend her to any of my friends. more

Unprofessional 4/6/2009

It is uncommon for me to write a review, but my experiences with this office need to be shared. If you are looking for a doctor who can take you on as a new patient, see you quickly, and has after-hours then Dr. Shelly might be a good option for you. However if you intend to see her for any issues more serious then a common cold/flu or your yearly visit, I would seek medical care else where. In my experience it is common for Dr. Shelly to compare your problems to all of her other patients and suggest remedies such as yoga for problems that the patient feels are more serious. Also, another frustrating part of this practice is the staff. While the staff is pleasant, they consist of only a few young college students. There is no office manager to voice concerns to. I have had endless troubles with the staff billing correctly and processing referrals. After months of feeling frustrated I finally switched to a different PCP. My suggestion to anyone having trouble seeing a PCP in Boston, would be to book with Dr. Shelly so you have a PCP just in case, but make an appointment with another PCP as well (Someone from BWH, MGH, etc). The other PCP might not be able to see you for 3+ months, but at least you will have someone else lined up if you do not like Dr. Shelly. Pros: Convenient hours and locations Cons: Unprofessional staff and physician. Usually running late. more

Horrible... Avoid Dr Shelly if you value your health! 5/19/2008

It is hard to find a doctor that is accepting new patients, but ask your friends/colleagues for a referral. You're better off NOT doing anything than seeing Dr. Shelly. She was my primary care for a while (close to my apt, honestly), and it was a nightmare to get an appt, get billing straight.... and then came the icing on the cake: I complained for 7-8 months about how badly I was feeling. Never offered to run tests or anything, but was quick to ask me if I wanted anti-depressants. I finally took matters into my own hands, called a hospital directly and DEMANDED to be seen by someone. End of the story is that I had a heart condition and now take medication daily. Had I not taken over control of my own health, who knows what would have happened to me! Cons: Awful - rude, always running late.... more

Best Doctor in Boston 3/10/2008

Best Doctor Ever:\r Arrived in Boston and no M.D. would see me. Then I called Dr. Shelly's office. Great Friendly staff. Dr. Shelly spent a lot of time with me and then focussed on a lot of stuff that was messing up my life. Helped me x 5. Dude if you need a great doc go there. Great Doc......but alert: If you need oxys go to another doc. Pros: great doctor Cons: parking dificult more

Worst doctor, EVER 1/14/2008

This is the utmost worst Doctor in Boston. I've never had to deal with such unprofessional staff who literally never get back to you. I've had to track everything down on my own and when I call to follow up with issues, they act as though they have no clue who I am. Doctor Shelly always acted disinterested and apathetic each time I saw her. Honestly, the only reason I would see her was because her office was around the corner from my apartment but that is a lame excuse. I have clearly switched to an actual professional doctor who cares about health. \r \r Go to her if you want to waste your time with stupid receptionists and poor service.\r \r more

Absolutely Horrible 8/13/2007

I'm sorry but I usually only write good reviews about a place but the service here was horrendous. First off, I don't even know what I spent my money on as she didn't even do anything for me. I have had chronic back problems since I was 17 years old resulting from a motorcycle accident. I just moved to the Boston area and needed to find a primary care doctor, so I looked her up on here and found she was close to my office. I went into there with copy's of my X-rays and MRI's and past prescriptions that my old doctor in Washington had been prescribing me for the past 4 1/2 years. As I showed her these things she automatically dismissed them and told me she would never prescribe me anything for pain and treated me as if I was some sort of dru dealer telling me if that's what I'm looking for I will never find that treatment in the state of Massachusetts! First off it's not like I'm some 18 year old kid trying to score pain killers, I'm 36 years old with proof of an X-ray and MRI of an injury and my doctor back home would gladly tell her my diagnoisis if she would have just called him. Instead she gave me no medical advise or treatment, didn't even look at my back or try any tests, instead just told me to come back in a month and tried to book me another appointment. I could have just walked up to a guy on the street, gave him some money, and said goodbye and got the same treatment. This lady is obviously very unprofessional and I don't know how she stays in business with the pratice she is running. What if every doctor didn't help people then what would we do? How does she even consider herself a doctor? You're supposed to help people not turn them away when they need help. Well anyway I ended up going to the emergency room at Mass General(who are a much better grade of doctors) and they treated me right away with exactly the help I needed. There are much better physcians out there who don't carry their own personal stereotypes into their office. Pros: Nothing...maybe location Cons: Unprofessional more
