Best

The apple strudel is fantastic, and the best thing here are the potato balls. They have another location in Burbank. Very good prices.

Worst

Cake Lover's Haven 4/12/2006

Portos Bakery is the best in Los Angeles. They have a huge variety of pastries, breads, meat balls etc. The Creme Brulee here is the best. The best part is that it is inexpensive. If you are in a hurry though don't swing by Portos. There is always a long line and be prepared to wait for atleast 15 to 20 minutes to place your order. But be assured that it is well worth the wait. For Croissant lovers, don't miss the Spinach & Cheese Croissant. The Pineapple cakes are one of the best I've ever had. If you happen to be in Glendale, make sure you take the time to go to Portos. more

One of my absolute favorite places 12/28/2005

Porto's is absolutely one of my favorite bakeries. I love just walking by and taking a whiff of the air, as it always smells of delicious fresh-baked bread. They have a great party menu of appetizers, such as potato balls, empanadas (meat pies), and ham croquettes. Their pastries are also to die-for; the chocolate croissant and the spinach-feta croissants are my favorites. They offer a lunch menu of various Cuban sandwiches, and the prices are very reasonable (the portions are somewhat small though). For more information, visit http://www.portosbakery.com more

Porto's 8/30/2005

Porto's Bakery in Glendale is famous for it's Cuban pastries, cakes, and deserts. The lines are usually pretty long so be sure to give yourself enough time; especially if you're there to order a cake. The cakes have all kinds of different topings and fillings, but they're all very sinfully delicious. more

Best bakery ever! 8/28/2005

My boyfriend drove twenty minutes out of our way just to take me to Porto's bakery. This is a Cuban bakery that started in Manzanillo where it ran for six years before moving to the United States. It has grown and moved to where I've experienced it, and all I can attest to is how delicious everything looks and tastes! We had a hard time deciding what to choose from the endless rows of beautifully decorated treats, but ended up with an amazing fruit tart and very tasty guava danish. The prices are great, too. Definitely make this a stop if you're passing through the area. more

porto's cuban bakery 8/27/2005

although it's called a bakery, they have lunch sandwiches and little potatoe balls as well. the media noches and cubanos and pan con lechon (pork) are the absolute best! they are 3-3.50 each. they also have all kinds of coffees. i always indulge in the cafe de leched dulce latte blended. at 3.25 or something, it's comparable to starbucks... so i don't feel too bad. i don't drink it every day, only when i go there... the croissants are mouth watering too! esp chocolate and almonds! and the cakes are almost too die for! they have a large assortment and variety and they are ALL good! especially the dulce de leche and fruit tarts. almost every special family occasion we have, if i am close to porto's, that's where are cakes come from... more

Great eats for cheap 8/11/2005

Porto's has the best cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. I don't think i've found anything that even comes close. The fruit tart is one of my favorites. A 15' tart for less than $20.00. You have to try the potato ball sandwich too. Mmm mmm good! The only down fall is the wait time. The 30 minute wait and the poor service is not what brings me back, but I can't resist their desserts. more

best potatoe balls anywhere 8/9/2005

Located in Glendale on Brand Blvd, its is surround by a lot of othe shops. They are well known for their meat pies. They sell a fair price for their potato balls, they are the best in the business, they have other things there as well like sandwiches, coffee, cakes, and cookies, but eat their potato balls. more

Great Cuban food 8/5/2005

Portos has the best desserts. Whenever you go you will have to be ready for a huge line because everyone knows about this hidden gem in Glendale. They make the best fruit tart and they also have great empanadas. If you are having or hosting a party this will be a great place to get catered food from. Their tres leches cake is really good also, i just think it's a little sweet. more

Great Cuban Food 8/5/2005

This place offers great cuban sandwiches and pastries. Order a sandwich and some Mariquitas which are homemade plaintain chips, excellent. Then get some desserts to eat or take home. There is a huge selection from fruit tarts to chocolate mousse. Everything is good!! There is also a bakery and cake gallery attached where they offer cakes and breads. Be prepared for the crowds which can get pretty long during lunch hours or on weekends. However, the lines usually move pretty fast as there are usually a lot of workers behind the counter. more

Best Bakery in Southern California 7/31/2005

Porto’s is hands-down the best bakery in Southern California—and business proves it. You can stand in line as long as 30-40 minutes on a Sunday to get your baked goods. Why do people wait? Outstanding baked goods at incredibly cheap prices. A large chocolate croissant will run you just over a dollar (and it’s made with Belgian chocolate!) Other exceptional baked items include the hot ham and cheese croissant, the spinach feta croissant, the strawberry cheese croissant, napoleons, cream horns (less than a buck each!) and tres leches. This is just the beginning of the great baked items they offer including breads, rolls, desserts and specialty cakes. more

Too Crowded at Porto's 6/21/2005

This bakery needs to bring up its customer friendly profile. I work across the street and 75% of the time i go in I wait about 15 minutes and leave. there are crowds of over 50 people waiting at any one time, but they won't change the bakery service area from a plan suited to the occasional visitor. You can't even see what is left in the glass cases until you get in front of teeming crowds of people, most of them tense, irritated, and with loud or unruly small children. It's so noisy you practically have to shout to be heard to the staff for ordering. Finding a place to sit down is impossible during lunch hours, and day-care seems to be roaming freely across the floor. Screaming children are always a constant now. I come in from a lunch or coffee break to see someone has brought their wild kid to make noise and run around while they chat or attend another child. Not what i want. This used to be a nice place to stop in and get a special thing, now it's such a hassle i usually leave swearing I'll never go back. more
