I'm glad that Borders is in the Santa Anita mall. If I am ever at the mall and I am waiting for somebody, I'll usually go to Borders to kill some time. They sell books, magazines, music, and DVD movies. The Seattle's Best Coffee inside also serves some really delicious lattes and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you join their Borders Rewards program, you get a card that tracks your purchases and gives you 5% back and they also email you special coupons or discount offers. Borders is definitely a place to hang out because there are often a lot of people there just sitting and reading or studying.

I used to be a big fan of Mervyn's when I was younger, but now I think my tastes have changed and I'm not as much of a fan. I definitely don't visit Mervyn's as much as I used to. Mervyn's is a discount department store similiar to Kohl's or Sears that sells all sorts of apparel for the entire family. I liked to buy my athletic shoes from Mervyn's because they often have good sales (Nikes for about $50). The store itself isn't the most organized or cleanest, especially if you compare it to other stores like Macy's or Nordstrom, but it's adequate.

I think Marie Callender's is fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants. What I love about it is that it's fresh, delicious comfort food: meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken pot pie with a flaky crust, and delicious pies. Marie Callender's has a semi-annual pie sale (in February and October), where all of their pies are only $5.99 plus a 50 cent deposit for the tin (you can get this back if you return the aluminum tin). I prefer the cream pies to the fruit pies. Try the double cream blueberry, which is delicious. The lemon cream cheese is also tart and will definitely bring a smile to your face. They do great catering around the holidays, which is perfect for an office holiday party.

Buca di Beppo is a great Italian restaurant to go to if you have a big family or you are with a large group of friends. Everything is served "family style," meaning that all of the dishes are large and are meant to be shared among everyone at the table. All of the familiar Italian favorites are on the menu, such as spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccine alfredo, and pizza, but they also offer specials that differ depending on the day of the week. We tried the shrimp parmigiana, which was the special of the day when we went there, and it was delicious, although a bit salty. I would definitely recommend the Chicken Saltimbocca, which is chicken breast with prosciutto, sage, and an artichoke lemon sauce. It was so good! Prices are a little steep, but there's a lot of food, so you won't leave hungry.

I love Costco. If I were ever to be trapped in a store for 24 hours, Costco would be my choice because basically everything you ever need is in their warehouse. Their products are all great quality for great prices, but it's all in bulk, so it's not good for single people. If you are single, try gathering up all your other single friends so you can split things (I mean, who really needs 40 giant rolls of toilet paper?). Costco is famous for offering free samples of their food products; my favorites are when they offer samples of stuff from their deli and bakery. They're also famous for their food service stations, with a hot dog and a soda for $1.50 being their best seller. You can also get pizza, chicken bake, salad, and ice cream. There are no words for how much I love Costco--I'm there practically every weekend!

If you are anything like Homer Simpson, then I think you'd like Uncle Joe's Donuts. It's a mom and pop donut store that has a really nice variety of donuts to meet your needs. My favorites are the yeast-raised donuts as opposed to the cake-like donuts, but I'll eat practically anything. I've never met a donut I didn't like. The donuts at Uncle Joe's are always fresh and delicious, perfect with some milk or a cup of coffee. If you're looking to bring something into the office to feed your co-workers in the morning, this is a great donut shop to go to.

I would say that I pretty much exclusively see movies at an AMC theater over any of the other theaters like Edward's or Regal. One of the main reasons is that AMC has a MovieWatcher card that gives you points for buying movie tickets, which in turn, give you free popcorn, soda, and even movie tickets. Every ticket you buy earns you two points, and you get something free for every 10 points you have. It's a great program. I also like this location because it's located inside Santa Anita mall, so you can go shopping either before or after your movie. You just have to deal with the hassle of parking, which can be a headache, especially on the weekends, so plan ahead so you don't miss your movie (or the previews).

Old Navy is part of the same company as Banana Republic and GAP, but it is the the more budget-friendly line of clothing. Thus, it's a favorite with families for all of the latest casual fashions. They have comfortable, warm fleece sweaters and accessories for the fall and winter, as well as all of your beach wear and sandals for the spring and summer. A few years ago, Old Navy was known for their fun and quirky television commercials, but I haven't really seen any lately. Still, it's one of the stores that I always visit when I'm at the mall if I'm looking for an affordable outfit.

When you think of See's candies, generally you think of the Christmas/holiday season, but See's offers great candies all year round. Just a hint though: for major holidays (Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Halloween, and Christmas), go there early so you can avoid the crowds. It was insane when I went there two days before Valentine's Day. The chocolates are so delicious and are of excellent quality, and you can taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. What's great about See's is that they give you a free chocolate sample whenever you make a purchase, so you can fulfill your sweet craving right away!

Godiva is a gourmet chocolatier, so obviously, their prices are going to be very high. They do offer good quality chocolate (it's no Hershey's bar), but I think their prices are too expensive. I would take See's candy any day over Godiva. Each chocolate piece runs about $1.50-$2.00 a piece, so if you're a chocoholic, you might want to find something cheaper. Their service is good though. I received a box of truffles as a gift, but they were all melted, so I went to the store to exchange them with no problems.
