Flying fish 7/31/2002

Just had relatives in town for my wedding reception. Going to Pike's was their only requested visit while they were here. Although a few of them complained of the smell (it is a fish market, people) they loved hanging out and haranging the fish throwers. In general, it was a highlight for them. Luckily, our weather was a beautiful 80 degrees and sunny that day. Providing a beautiful view of Elliot Bay and the Tall Ships in town for the day. more

Pike's the place 7/30/2002

If you visit Seattle, you have to visit Pike Place market. It sums up the feel of our city in one spot. There are vendors from all over the state selling ethnic cuisine to paintings and jewelry. There are lush flowers and street musicians...the first ever Starbucks and a great view of the city with the hustle and bustle of people enjoying it too...even in the rain. Pros: Inexpensive, Eclectic, Great view Cons: Crowded, Poor parking more

Pike Place: Fish Throwing to Fine Dining 7/23/2002

Corporate shopping can't compare to the beauty and history of the Pike Place market. Really, where else can you buy farm fresh veggies, watch jolly men throw fish, buy original art, and dine in a fine French restaurant? It's a ""must see"" for every visiter and a great place for us natives too. It's not just shopping. It's an experience in community, history, and artistry. more

Lucky To Have 7/23/2002

We locals have a habit of taking attractions like the Market for granted but we really are lucky to have such a wonderful institution available to us and for our visitors. The collection of shops and vendors is unique and memorable. Flying fish may be hokey but one does remember such things when the vacation is over. And to think it was so close to being destroyed just a few decades ago...what a shame that would have been. Pros: variety, very visual, something for everyon Cons: Restrooms more

Cheap and fun, even for the locals. More local vegetable grower stands and meat counters will make it even better. more

What Every Big City Needs 7/22/2002

Every Big City with Culture needs a place to call its own, with San Francisco it is Fishermans Wharf and Seattle has its Pike Place Market. I never visit either city without making sure I always visit these self defining attractions... Pros: No crowds in Winter, Great shopping, Great People Watching Cons: Terrible Bathrooms, Poor Parking, Overcrowded In Summer more

Doesn't Disappoint 5/14/2002

This is one popular attraction that stands up to the hype. From fresh seafood to lush bouquets, it's a feast for the senses. Locals stock up on picture perfect produce while visitors gawk at stacks of fresh fish and giant crabs. For a true taste of Seattle, spend some time strolling around the vendors then treat yourself to a fresh catch on a nearby pier. Pros: good prices Cons: crowded more

A cool place 5/12/2002

I was pleasantly surprised. Pike Place is not nearly as touristy as Fisherman's Wharf (SF) or Navy Pier (Chicago). And the prices are reasonable. Pros: Great shopping Cons: A little crowded more
