STAY AWAY! If you live in Portsmouth DO NOT GO TO PEPBOYS FOR TIRES. Made an appointment and ordered tires on internet a week in advance and used their site to select size. Arrived five minutes early to appointment and had to wait and when I was waited on they said 1 hour plus or minus. I told the man I was going for coffee and would be back in 15-30 min and provided my cell number should there be any issues. Upon return I waited another 20 min and the man said the tires were the wrong size that I ordered. After a short conversation it was revealed that they were NOT the wrong size but an optional size. I was there two plus hours and missed an appointment with a client and the manager did NOTHING to mitigate the matter nor compensate me for the willful bait & switch. They attempt to up sell you everything they can except what you came in for and use the excuse that it is their responsibility to do so. That is total crap and they are fleecing people all the time. more

I have had it with these people! Not only did they do a terrible job with my brakes, they've been slipping and squeaking for months. My husband brought the car back to be serviced and they said there is nothing wrong with them - that he bought the cheapest brakes. I am sorry but why would you not recommend better brakes at the time they were put in?? They offered no solution. Right around the same time we had called them on a deal with tires. We made an appointment to have them installed and there was a rebate attached to it. My husband gets down there for installation and they ""discover"" they don't have the rebate tires available but offered a more expensive tire. (You see where this is going) We bought those and haven't had a problem until today when he brings my car in for tire rotation and they tell him I need four new tires! They are 80,000 mile tires and I've only gone 28,000 miles so far. I am done with this company DON'T DO Business with them. They're work is shoddy and their customer service is HORRIBLE!!! more

After realizing that I could not open my passenger door from the outside of my 2007 ‘Chevy Cobalt’ even after using my key to unlock it I brought it to these clowns to repair and do an oil change. When I got it back I was able to open my door again from the outside but my car was telling me that I still needed an oil change! After I called them they told me that I had to reset the change oil display myself. A week and a half later I just happened to use my key to unlock the passenger door. SURPRISE!!! My lock was inoperative. Apparently the professional who worked on my door either failed to mention that he broke or lost the clip need to secure the lock mechanism to the rest of the handle he was fixing in hopes that I wouldn’t check or he’s just plain incompetent. In either case when I brought my car back for a full day and nothing was done. I complained to the “assistant manager” who was reluctant to admit any wrong doing because “plastic parts crack and break” (…forget about being lost or broken during the repair.) I was told that he’d look into it “the paper work” – (code for ‘I’m not going to do anything’) and give me a call. Yeah, right. So, I called corporate. 1-800-PEP-BOYS. They were going to call me back within 48 hrs. Good thing I called 30 hrs later to find out that Mr. Assistant Manager “ADAM” had my claim closed because I complained to him the day before I opened the complaint. WHAT?!? So now I have to wait another 48 hrs after reopening my complaint. I doubt anything will be done about this since I keep getting jerked around so, CONSUMER BE WARNED !!! If you bring your car to this BOYS club to be fixed. Do not be surprised if your car problem is just replaced by another. more

Pep Boys is good deal for the money on tires 8/10/2009

Bought set of 4 tires, and later gave the car to my brother. He had a problem with one tire after 2 years. Pep Boys stood behind their warranty. He just needed a copy of the repair slip.. I need new tires on my current car, and went there for their buy 3, get 4th free sale. Tires are lower cost, and when I check ratings on the internet, rated higher than other famous brands. Good deal for the money. Portsmouth store is where I have gone. more

MANAGER OF STORE IS FIRST CLASS 12/11/2007

I recently had occasion to meet Bill, the manager of the Porstmouth store. He worked with me on an issue with the service to my truck. The manner in which he handled my issues was first class and professional. He is concerned about keeping local and loyal customers and this is comforting to me as consumer. PepBoys can be trusted as a great local resource for your car maintenance needs. more

Worst brake service ever 7/8/2007

Will never recommend this place to anyone for brakes. My first set of brakes and rotors lasted me over 60k miles. I had them done at this place and 14 months and 18k miles later the rotors were already gone and Pep Boys would not stand behind their product. I had to go to Midas and have them done again. more

Oh My Gosh-The worst service of my life 7/23/2005

I took my 1997 Honda in for Air Conditioning hose repair. They said they would get the part and call me. They didn't. I called them. They had the wrong part. They said they would call me again. They didn't. They said parts for 1987 Hondas are hard to get! It altogether took 5 weeks to get the repair done. I only stuck with them because I had prepaid the part. Never again. more
