Great Indian Food, Great Indian Soap Operas 7/28/2010

I actually had not been here for a while. A group of mine used to come here for a work lunch every so often before we moved offices. For some reason we were craving Indian food today. I was surpised to find that the buffet was still open at 2:30pm today AND that the restaurant has received a total makeover. It looks much nicer inside than it used to, with three or four flat screen televisions playing different types of Indian soap operas or music videos. The food has actually improved since I remembered it, and there is a bigger variety of dishes. Furthermore, the restaurant is now serving 100% Halal meat and is open 7 days a week now. Hopefully they'll do better under new management and chef. Pros: All you can eat buffet Cons: Location more

best indian food 7/8/2010

The food is excellent! I couldn't ask for anything better! My family and I love to go here whenever we are in this area. The buffet is our menu option of choice. Why? You can sample a fair amount of the dishes and they are all asbolutely delicious! It has goat, chicken, vegetables, seafood, and choices of desserts too. i love it!\r more

""Cockroach in your dish"" 7/3/2010

I was shocked to see how the management reacted when they found Cockroach in my food ( vegetable biryani). The food was good, but who wants to eat food with cockroach. People should eat at this place only the manager is ready to offer $5000 cash + health expenses if the customer gets cockroach or other bugs in his plate. This is the only deterrent for the reckless quality in kitchen. Pros: nothing Cons: Bad food practice more

I love the meat dishes on the buffet 5/21/2010

Whenever my husband and I go to Houston, we always eat here atleast once.\r The buffet selection is a little small.\r But they have the best chicken curry dish I have ever eaten at an Indian buffet. Everything else is pretty good.\r The dessert selections are very limited. Pros: meat dishes, curry sauces more

Bug...enough said 5/12/2009

I have been to Pavani about 3 times for the lunch buffet, and the first two times were okay. The food was spicy which I liked. The last time, the service was poor, our glasses smelled like wet dog, and when they brought us out one of those potato pancake things, a small r#ach crawled right out of it. I did not want to make a super big deal about it because the place was packed, and I did not want to ruin everyones lunch. When I told the waiter about it he just asked if we would like another one, like it was no big deal. Gross!!! Pros: spicy more

Best Indian Buffet in Houston 11/25/2008

Everything here is well made and the quality is always consistently good. We travel 7 hours to go have Indian food as there is no Indian restaurant with as fantastic a buffet in the Rio Grande Valley area. My favorites are the chicken tikka, butter chicken, dosai, saag paneer, kheer, and naan. This is the only Indian restaurant we go to whenever we are in Houston. Pros: Fantastic food more

yum 10/15/2008

Love the butter chicken! Always good service --nice people too, I am gradually getting to know more about indian cusine. Trying different things. The Buffet is affordable also. more

Horrible taste and bad service!!!! 6/25/2008

I read some of the other reviews and decided to give it a try. When I was walking in the host was outside smoking a cigarette and was not happy to see me. I had to seat myself and was finally offered a beverage after about 3 minutes. The food is the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. The only thing that was halfway decent was the butter chicken. Even that tasted watered down and not at all what I expected for Indian food. If you want to be overcharged $13.50 just for one person and receive bad service and even worst food then this is your spot. What a waste of time and money. Cons: Srevice and food more

Best Indian in Houston - and a Dinner Buffet! 6/7/2008

OK, we only started going to Pavani because it offers the only Indian dinner buffet within about a zillion miles of where we live in West U, and at first, a year or so ago, we only liked it OK. It was good, sure, but not like, seriously, unbelievably great.\r Now? It's seriously, unbelievably great. Best authentic South Indian cuisine I have had anywhere: Houston, LA, Manhattan - anywhere.\r Amazingly delicious.\r PLUS, they are so sweet to my kids and the service is so... charming and kind and genuine. We feel so ""at home"" here, it's really rare and heartwarming, especially for a huge, bustling, cranky city like Houston.\r \r Eat here. You won't regret it. Pros: THE FOOD; fantastic, friendly service Cons: weird location and building by the beltway - but it's sooooo forgivable given how great it is! more

Excellent food, friendly staff 5/25/2008

We moved to Houston about 3 years ago and spent over 2 years looking for an Indian food restaurant that we really liked. Finally a few months ago we found Pavani andy we won't go anywhere else. We usually do take out and last time I asked if they would make a spinach nan (not on the menu). She said she'd like to try it...and it turned out fantastic. I like the Korma and Tikka Masala and my wife only gets the Butter Chicken. Excellent food. Pros: great food Cons: location is a little funny more

Authentic South Indian 4/6/2008

I have been to many Indian restaurants around US and Pavani is one of the best. Once i moved to Houston I tried some of the top rated Indian restaurants listed on city search like shiva etc and vowed never to believe these ratings. A friend took me to Pavani and since then i have been there numerous times. As for the food, it tastes delicious. Lot of choices on the buffet line both for vegetarian and non vegetarian and most of them taste awsome. I really like the idea, you can order Dosa, Utappam etc south Indian favourites and they are included in the buffet price. I think all the items are worth a try. Spice levels are good and will not blast your taste buds out f flavor. The ambience needs a make over but i guess this falls in to one of those places where food is awsome and everything else is mediocore. Buffet is moderately priced at $12.95 Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Ambience more

curry curry curry... 8/6/2005

i went here for my birthday and was curious about indian food. wow, it was really good. good thing they had a buffet because i wouldn't know what to order. definately try the goat curry. order a mango yogurt drink also, it's very yummy. we went there on a saturday night and they still offered the buffet. the staff was helpful explaining about the food too. my first time experience with indian cusine was awesome. i'll definately be back again. Pros: goat curry, the bread, mango yogurt drink Cons: ambience more

Great Food 7/23/2003

Awesome South Indian Food...Great Authentic Taste and lots of variety. Tastes like food back home...excellent and curteous service. Great place for Indian delicacies such as Idly, Vada, Dosas, Sambhar. Best Buffet in town!!! Worth every Cent. Pros: Food, Location, Service more

Best Value 6/12/2003

Because I love Indian food, but am not overly familiar with it, I prefer buffets, where I can view, smell, and then sample a small portion of food at a time. That way, I know if I like it or not. I think I liked 90% of what was on the buffet line in this place, and the staff was helpful in explaining the ingredients and other stuff. Plus, the servers bring out hot ""nan"" and roam about the restaurant, just like they do with tortillas in some mexican restaurants. Good food. Good price. Pros: Great Value, Tasty food, Wide selection Cons: Location, Ambience more

Worth the drive 4/19/2003

A friend and I found this place completely by accident. While I agree with the other ratings that the ambiance needs some tweaking (it feels a bit cold with the high ceilings and blank walls- add some colorful tablecloths and artwork), the food is amazing. I thought I had had good Indian food before but at Pavani the dishes are infused with subtle flavors and nuances that made me go YUM! While the food can be spicy, instead of sledgehammer spices attacking the taste buds, here the spices pricked the tongue and made my palate smile. Pros: the food, inexpensive Cons: cold ambiance more

Great Food 3/12/2003

Food is great ,but need more personalized service than professional. It looks little expensive but you feel it reasonable after you taste the food. more
