good for sake bombs, less good for fish 11/18/2008

This place is usually packed with Stanford kids doing Sake bombs. If you're in the mood for that, then you should definitely go here. Otherwise, Kan Pai has better fish. That said, if you've decided you're definitely staying on University Ave., then its a better bet than Sushi Tomo. Pros: disco lights more

Great food at a great price 2/12/2007

This place is definitely a very particular place in the Palo Alto area. Before 7:30pm, it isn't much more than just a standard japanese/sushi restaurant with a very wide menu selection. After 7:30, the restaurant goes absolutely nuts, turning the inside into a club type atomosphere complete with fog makers, laser lights, discoballs, etc. Often times, the crowds get so large there is a huge line of people waiting outside. Be advised though, if you are under 21, you have to arrive before 7:30 otherwise they will not let you in. The food here is very good. Don't expect something absolutely amazing, but for the price, it is extremely good. There is a HUGE variety of sushi that you can order as well as a decently extensive menu of other japanese food. The bento box meals are a great value since you get a very large portion of great food for just $11. Katsu dishes here are absolutely enormous too. This is definitely a place I try to go to atleast once every couple months because its such a great place to unwind with its club like atmosphere. Pros: Food is great, seating is prompt, service is fast, rotating sushi bar if you prefer that, etc. Cons: Can get extremely full if you don't get there early enough. Heavy drinking atmosphere at night might be distasteful for some more

I love salmon the lunch special, tasty and economic. 12/16/2006

My family and I have been going there for several years, we love it during weekdays for lunch and early dinner time. We avoid Friday and Saturday nights, becuase it is more for young or single people that want to party. Food is good and economic. I never got sick in there as other places. \r I recomend lunch boxes, they have good California rolls. Pros: Good food and economic Cons: Sometimes service can be slow, too many clients more

It's a Blast 8/8/2005

My friends and I love it... The wait is sometimes sort of long but it's not too bad. Great place to get loud and have a great time with your friends. Sake bomb is the best. My friends and I can never get enough. I think I am there at least once a month for someone's birthday or just getting together with friends or coworker. My boyfriend and I enjoy going there very much also. Even though it's not quite a romantic restaurant but it has a great vibe if you enjoy loud music and people around you just having a great time. more

Service SUCKED !! 7/26/2005

My friends and I went to Miyake on a Tuesday night , so we wouldn't have to wait to be seated.....We were able to sit immediately, but the service was HORRIBLE . The food took forever and we practically had to beg to get a second drink. Food was ok, but definitely not worth the terrible service more

Service is Awful 3/30/2005

I recently went to Miyake on a Saturday with about 10 friends. We waited two hours, and were told repeatedly that we would be next to be seated, but we never got seated. I approached the bouncer/host to find out why we were being told we were next, and then kept seeing groups of our same size getting seated. He was extremely rude, and didn't even bother to allow me to finish my question. I left for a couple minutes, then asked him to actually listen to me. He told me 'I don't need to listen to you', which was enough for me. Our group left, crossed the street, and got some really good sushi for a much more reasonable price. If you want to party, go to Miyake. If you want service and good food, go somewhere else! more

good sushi, great fun 1/9/2005

Miyake consistently has very good, very fresh sushi. You get a warm greeting from the staff, even as they rush about from table to table. At night and the sake bombs accompanied by the smoke machine and disco lights makes for a lot of fun. Pros: fresh sushi, price, atmosphere more

Fun for large groups, but not for all! 6/9/2003

I have visited Miyake many times in a larger group setting (5 or more adults). We have continued to patronize Miyake's for the reason that they have the best sake bomb atmosphere. For a party scene and different sushi experience, Miyake's is a fun place who will encourage you and your party to drink to their heart's content while cheering you on in Japanese, with fog machines, music and strobe lights. However, if you are a true sushi connosieur--this is not the place for you. MY husband and I are sushi aficionados and will never come here for a quiet dining environment or for top quality fresh sushi. Miyake's simply doesn't cut it. They are enjoyable for adult gatherings, but definitely not for children or teens. The atmosphere is almost ""club-like"" on a Friday or Saturday night after certain hours. Don't bring your family here, as it can get noisy. Pros: For adults in lg. grp, Best sake bombs, Servers are pleasant Cons: Not kid friendly, Poor quality of sushi, Can get noisy! more

Not worth the long wait 3/9/2003

The wait is very very long on weekends, be expected to stand around for a while although they may say you'll be seated ""pretty soon"". Once you're finally seated, the food is a hit or miss. Some rolls are not fresh but I recommend the spicy tuna maki and teriyaki chicken. The sake is very affordable but a couple of our vials were served cold. Pros: Affordable, Location Cons: Chaotic, Long Wait more

only good if you don't know good sushi 1/2/2003

I've been to Miyake's several times, only at the request of friends that say they have to try it or some friends that just don't know what good sushi is. This place has horrible sushi, the fish isn't fresh, it smells horrible when you walk in. They have no AC so it's very warm inside. When I eat sushi I want really good sushi and this place doesn't cut it. more

Good Value 12/22/2002

This is one of the best-valued sushi places around. The sushi is above average, but the prices are rock bottom. Also great for the college crowd. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Parking might be hard more

not that good.... 11/25/2002

I didn't really enjoy. Food is so-so. I would go different place instead. more

No more disco ball? 5/22/2002

I used to love Miyake's for the big, good, cheap sushi, then it turning into a flashing light, techno, steam college hang out. Now that it's calmed down a bit, I'll start going there again! more
