Miyake Restaurant

I've been here both at night and during the day for lunch and you can barely believe that it's the same place. I frequent here for their lunch boxes. You get a few pieces of sushi and then maybe some teryaki chicken and tempura for very little money. I think it's just as good quality as some of the much more expensive sushi places in San Jose. Then at night it becomes this crazy bar atmosphere where people are standing on the table doing sake bombs. Just nutty. I prefer the lunch atmosphere, but the sake bomb people seem to be having their share of fun too. more

Miyake's is always crowded whenever I happen to pass it during lunch time or in the evening. I figured we should check it out to see what all the hype is all about. The website had decently priced items of food and said the atmosphere contained people from Stanford, so I figured the age group was between 20 to 30 something. I only recommend Miyake's if you're going out with a WILD group of PARTIERS. The food was OK. The atmosphere was one like I've never seen before. There are people doing saki bombs left and right, standing up on chairs, music is blaring, oh and I can't forget the disco lights and fog machine are put to great use for people slamming their saki. more

During the day and Sun.-Thur. evenings, this place is just a casual Japanese restaurant with a sushi boat bar. But on Friday and Saturday nights, the place is filled with disco lights, loud music, smoke and tons of people standing on their chairs doing sake bombs! Great for a gathering of friends for any occasion. Birthday celebrations will be an uproar with the compimentary sake drinking event. Sushi is good. It's not anything fancy. They have the largest selection of sushi that I've ever seen with many items only created at this restaurant. The bento boxes and noodles are HUGE! And all the food is CHEAP!!! Parking is great because a parking garage is less than a block away so that's never a problem. No one under 21 after 7pm on Friday and Saturday. The bouncer at the door is really friendly. He won't seat your party until everyone has arrived, tho. And be sure to note the rules on the door when entering on the weekend. Any other given day, this place is great for anyone, even families with children. The also offer free Wi-Fi. The staff is pretty friendly and service is quick. more

hey, i'm not old! i'm still hip! i can still party! i swear; i can! however, i just feel it's such a shame that pretty good japanese food gets such shabby treatment when miyake turns into a big frat party every single weekend night. the only worse affront along these lines is miyagi's on the sunset down in socal. that's _really_ awful. anyway, yeah... sure, you can have a good sake bomb party at miyake for what it's worth. however, you won't be able to hear anything your friends are saying to you. if i wanted that, i'd just head up to sf to a good nightclub instead. more

Forget about the sushi. I have been there several times both during evening hours and daytime hours in hopes of maybe having someone on duty who knows how to make a semi-decent roll. A good 90% of the sushi I have ordered there are poorly made to the point that rolls end up looking like pieces of nigiri. The only reason to go here is for the night life on Fridays and Saturday nights. On both nights you can expect a wait of up to an hour easily. Around 9:30-10pm the restaurant turns into a mini discoteque without the actual dance floor. DJ continues to turn the music as everyone orders multiple sake bombs. Everyone gets into it and gets on their chairs chanting SAKE-BOMB. I highly recommend this place for a birthday dinner/party if you're too lazy to go to the city. I would try to go early around 8 to secure a table for large parties. more

Miyake is the best in the west! It is a wonderful restaurant located in the heart of downtown Palo Alto. They serve sushi and Japanese food there. It isn't too expensive (lunch boxes cost between $6 to $8 and are VERY fulfilling). The sushi there isn't bad, but to be perfectly honest, I've tasted better sushi. I don't particularly like the way they make the California rolls there. I like the New York rolls there though. I recommend this restaurant though because it is very energetic and everyone seems to like it! more

Yup, the name says it all. Its a sushi place! I LOVE sushi. The sushi there is good, but the quality isnt the best, I've had better. They have lunch and dinner specials that consist of chicken/salmon/beef/pork terriyake, rice, sushi, soup (miso) and salad for about 6-8 dollars. now I think thats a bargain! more

Miyake moved a block away from where it was when I was in college in the 1980s. It maintained the quality, diversity, and pricing of its sushi offerings, however, which all make it a favorite of locals and Stanford students. It is a traditional place to celebrate passing exams, reaching the age of 21, and just making it through another week in our hectic world. Be prepared to be greeted effusively at the door, but also to wait, if it's a weekend. more
