This place is awesome. Carmen, the waitress, knew more about wine than anyone at our table. We took 5 out of town guests here from Chicago, LA and Atlanta and they were all impr...

Super Server 12/4/2005

My wife and I were recommended by a friend of a friend of the owner, Randy Rayburn. Being a aspiring culinary, I'm very observant. When we walked in we were greated with a beautiful smile that could make anyone feel right at home A. Then she told us that our server would be right with us. When no one came by right away, she said she would look after us. We were blown away by her awareness. My wife ordered the scallops and I had the lamb. We asked our server, Tricia to choose the wine for us. We loved her suggestions so much we ended up getting a bottle each. Randy you have a gem of a restaurant but even more of a gem with a server like Tricia. If she ever moves on, let us know. My wife and I would follow her anywhere. more

Good...but could be better. 10/3/2005

The bread basket contained nondescript non-warm rye bread - not bad but nothing special. The crab cakes were very good, but a tad small. The accompanying sauces were O.K., but nothing special. Mixed results on the entrees. My trout was wonderful - nice grilled smokey flavor, tender and served with a great corn relish. The two (more would have been better) fried green tomatos had a goat cheese paste between them (think sandwich) and it worked fantastically. My wife's entree, the Veal Picatta was cooked O.K. and looked great, but was very bland, and the side noodles could have also used more flavor. Both entrees were average size. The dessert, chocolate molten cake, was more like a baked cupcake with a dark pudding filling. Nice, but nothing great. Overall, nothing was unacceptable, but at a price point where many entrees are $20 and up, it could have been better. Pros: friendly service, trout tasty Cons: small crab cakes, bread, veal picatta bland more

This place was recommended by a friend of my husbands for a romantic dinner and he was correct. The atmosphere was great. The food was wonderful. I would recommend the lamb chops and the molten chocolate cake. Our waiter Doug was also very helpful. Pros: great food, service more

wonderful evening 3/2/2005

My date and I both were first time dinners, let me tell you we were both pleased with our evening. The service was wonderful, great wine list, and the food was top rate, we each had the tasting menu and were blown away by the food. I would highly recomend this place to anyone. Pros: wine list, food, service Cons: parking more

Nashville's Finest? Spare me from its Worst 2/21/2005

Upon entering the restaurant, we witnessed an angry customer asking why his table was not ready. From there, it was downhill. After being seated, we waited at least 10 minutes to be greeted and found it hard to talk over the cackling drunk sitting at the table behind us. I was disturbed at the waiter's ""you don't want to order that"" to all the entrees priced below $27. I was a rebel and ordered the basil pasta with the blackened shrimp. Pasta Roni would have been a tastier alternative. I might also mention that the bathroom had one stall and the staff suggested I use the men's room. Pros: Bread was Good Cons: Not Romantic at All, Overpriced, Gas Station bathroom more

Good Enough 1/21/2005

I was referred here while on business. The place is small, but the menu offers a variety of dishes and the wine selection is ambitious. I was told I had to try the crabcakes, which were tasty, but a little heavy on filler (the menu should list them as crab and artichoke cakes). I will say that I have had better experiences at this price point, but the knowledgable service and selection were enough to bring me back. Pros: Menu, Winelist, Service Cons: , Design more

GREAT 7/1/2004

Crab Cakes...to die for 11/3/2003

My husband and I went for my birthday and had a really nice time. The atmosphere was nice and our waitress was helpful. Be sure to ask to sit in the main dining room as I could see the tv in the bar area from the side dining area. That sort of took away from the ambiance. We would go back, however, if for no other reason than the crab cakes. They were, without a doubt the best crab cakes I've ever tasted. Take my word for it. If you like crab cakes, don't even try to order anything else. I got a filet, which was fine, but didn't touch the crab cakes in taste. more

Personal Favorite 8/28/2003

I was recently at Midtown for dinner and I must say I think I have found Nashville's best dining place. The service was amazing. Our waiter, Paul, kept the food and drinks coming as we never had to ask for a thing. The food was amazing. The crab cakes would just fall apart in your mouth and the flavor was that of which you would find in New England. The prices are a little more pricy that alot of places in Nashville but I must say it is well worth saving for. This will be my place of choice to recommend to all our nashville visitors. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Price but not to bad more

Delightful Dinner at Midtown 8/5/2003

I recently went back to Midtown and the food and service were wonderful. Richard was our waiter and his insightful suggestions and extensive knowledge made our meal unforgettable. We started with the always perfect caesar salad, followed by mussels in white wine sauce. As usual the mussels were fresh and succulent. The wine that Richard chose complemented our dinner perfectly. We closed with the blueberry bread pudding which was good but the praline cheesecake was the star. Do be sure to have the cheesecake anytime you go to Midtown. It is to die for. Pros: FOOD!, Atmosphere, Great Service more

Wonderful Food 6/5/2003

MidTown Cafe is a wonderful place to spend an evening dining on the Prince Edward Island Mussels, which are served with a wonderful red sauce of the Chef's own creation, and the entrees are superb. I have had the pleasure of dinning at MidTown Cafe and I can not say enough good things about the food, the wait staff, and the atmosphere in general. Oh, and if you like Cheesecake they always have a wonderful selection to choose from, and it melts in your mouth. All in all if you want a good dinner at a mid range price this is the place for you. Pros: wine selection, valet parking, cozy more

Dinner with Friends! 6/5/2003

The numerous experiences I've had at Midtown Cafe have always been enjoyable and deserving of praise. From the host who seated us quickly, and never forgot us while we were waiting, to the wait staff who offered recommendations that were right on the mark, to the scrumptious (yet original) food, we were more than satisified. I have found this to be true during lunch and dinner. There are places to dine around town where after you are served, you are forgotten, but this is not the case at Midtown. You are welcomed as part of the family, if you encourage that kind of service. If what you want is intimacy and a private setting, they seem to pick up on that instantly. Pros: Great Personalities, Delicious Food, Intimate Setting Cons: Chess pie needs help more

Midtown has entered the 21st century 1/30/2003

With the updated decor and a menu that changes monthly Midtown deserves a closer look! With consistently outstanding service, wonderful fresh seafood (including Hawaiian Ahi Tuna), Kobe beef that melts in your mouth and a solid wine list this is the perfect place for impressing out of town business clients or romancing someone special Pros: Service, Ambience, Fresh Seafood Cons: Do Valet Park, Too many menu items t more

Good food and enjoyable atmosphere 1/26/2003

The place has a feeling that everyone inside is enjoying dinner. It is a little loud, but that is because the place is full of happy diners! Great food with excellent presentation, good wine list but not overly faa faa faa. Great place for a date or to take friends for a nice meal. Pros: great menu, kknowledgeable staff Cons: noisy (not to bad), small more

Good, not great 1/19/2003

Fine dining with some personality...there was a lack of ""being special"" in my mind. The food was good, but not great. Service tried hard and did well. All in all, a good choice. I was not disappointed. Pros: Not busy Cons: Felt rushed more

romantic 11/1/2002

The restaurant was wonderful. A great place for a romantic dinner with the loved one. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is quaint and appealing. The price is not to much for a real nice night out. But would get expensive if you made it a weekly event. Service was good but bad has the ability for improvement. Not a good place for the kids or if you are Claustrophobic. But perfect for a romantic night out. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: Price, Small quaters more

Best place for a date 8/7/2002

Midtown Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is great thanks to Jeremy Barlow, a talented and imaginative chef and the staff is friendly and knowledgable. A great place for a romantic date. Pros: Great Food, Intimate Setting, Great Staff more

So good, it should be Uptown Cafe! 7/30/2002

Intimate setting, comfortable elegance... incredible food. Intelligent and personable waitstaff. Wonderful place for lunch or dinner. Pros: atmosphere, food, selection Cons: parking more

magical midtown 7/19/2002

Midtown Cafe, is a great quaint lunch spot. With a very nice selection of daily specials and killer dessert, for those of us who do dessert. I recommend the open face chicken salad w/ fruit. Tasty, great service. Pros: menu, service more

Classy place - good food 6/18/2002

Service was outstanding and very friendly. Food selection is good and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the specials and regular items on the menu. The interior has a New York upscale restaurant no-trendy atmosphere to it, which is nice for a change, it's definitely about good food and wines and no distracting atmosphere. Pros: prompt service Cons: too cold more
