EXCELLENT DATE PLACE 11/4/2005

I believe there is no better place than this cozy, small, but full of personality restaurant! The ambience, the people and the food just makes it a great place to be with your date. The piano player is great and it just makes the mood even more romantic! The price is a bit steep, but it is all worth it for the time and quality you get served at this restaurant. Pros: food, atmosphere, service Cons: price more

Great Food and Atmosphere 9/18/2005

The food and romantic atmosphere makes this a great place for dates or a small group. Chicken alla mostarda and calimari are delicious. Service the 2 times I have been though is sub-par. Make reservations in advance-not required but helpful. Pros: candlelight dinner, piano player, food Cons: wait staff more

Great experience 8/29/2005

Great place to take your date. The ambience was perfect and the food was great. Desert was even better....try the "tres leches". Great live music. The lighting was romantic but a little bit too dark. It was busy and a little bit loud when I went. Had to constantly ask my date to repeat what he was saying. Pros: ambience, food, music Cons: too dark, a little too loud more

Disappointing 8/7/2005

I took my fiance here for his birthday and we were both extremely disappointed, as we had a much better experience here 4 years ago. Things have certainly changed. The salads are great and so is the atmosphere, but the food was just bland. I think I'd rather eat at Olive Garden than here, which is not saying very much. There was no flavor in either of our dishes and the shrimp I had was not cooked correctly. We will not be returning. Pros: atmosphere Cons: parking;food more

A Subtle Elegance 7/30/2005

You have your usual fancy shmancy italian places, and then you have a refreshingly different antique yet sutble fine establishment like Michaelangelo's... candle lit dinner with white table cloth, romantic atmosphere, piano playing in the back, serene ambience decorated with an antique yet established touch... this is definitely the place to go when you want to enjoy a special occasion. one word... Magnificent! more

Bread 7/7/2005

The food is outstanding, bu the bread is bad. They should get their bread from the French Riviera Bakery 9on Chimney Rock) more

You have to try it 2/18/2005

I came here for Valentines Day and I had one of the best times I've had in a long time. The food was great, the atmosphere was perfect and my date was so romantic. I couldn't have asked for a better place to go to on such a special night. more

Splendid 2/6/2004

This 35 year old restaurant continues to offer excellent food in a charming ambiance, complete with a piano combo every evening. Pros: Valet Parking, Live soft music, fine food more

Never better!!!!!! 10/31/2003

I took my girlfriend to Michaelangelo's for our first date and it was magnificient! We showed up 30 minutes late and I was extremelly nervous but the staff was great and the whole environement relaxed me. It may just be that I am in love but I don't think that there has ever been as good a place for a first date or any ensuing dates for that matter! As a matter of fact we already made plans to take a large group of friends just to show it off! Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere Cons: NONE!!!! more

Very impressed! 9/20/2003

I absolutely cannot say enough about Michaelangelos. I took my girlfriend for her birthday (on a Sat night at 6pm...did not have a reservation and did not have to wait at all) and it was perfect! The food was excellent (she is a vegetarian...and we both agreedthe food was great), the atmosphere was terrific (candlelit, piano player, etc...) and I thought the prices were very reasonable ($15 for most pasta dishes...and they were really good!). I don't review on this site much...but Michaelengelos is most certainly worth a visit - a wonderful restaurant and a great value! more

Wait staff needs some help 8/3/2003

Food was great Wait staff needs some help. Our waiter had 8 tables to take care of. He had a hard time of it. Overall I would go back to this restaurant Pros: parking, Food, Romantic Cons: wait staff more

Dining Out! Not for Everyone 6/13/2003

We made it there early to avoid the crowd, sure enough we were promptly seated at our favorite table by the window in the bright red room. We always love the Piano at night, great mussels and amazing crab cakes. You would think I work there, but no. Dinner was tasty not bland at all, I had the seafood combo with pasta in a red sauce, my wife had the jumbo garlic shrimp, bring mints and watch out for the tasty garlic dishes, they are no joke. I didn't kiss my wife for 3 days. The waiter was friendly, they do get busy so be patient, for they are working, he did his job. I say cold drinks, hot food you have my money. Please try to make your own dining experience your own, leave the baggage at home. Gee some reviewers here need therapy. Pros: HOT FOOD, CASUAL TO DRESSY, REASONABLE PRICES Cons: REVISE DESERTS MENU more

not worth it! 3/16/2003

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant! After having been seated for about 20 minutes, no server had approached our table to take our order, or even bring us water. I had to approach the hostess in order to get any service! After ordering, they brought my boyfriend the wrong entree. We did get free dessert out of it, but it was still a hassle. The food was mediocre: I had the Chicken Marsala, and it was very not very good at all. The pasta that came with it was extremely bland. I will NOT be going back to this place, and I would NEVER recommend it to a friend. The atmopshere was pretty romantic, but it was not worth it at all. Pros: Ambience Cons: Not good parking more

Enjoy! 2/6/2003

We have been going to this restaurant for more than 25 years. Great food - great service - awesome atmosphere! It's good for a romantic dinner for 2, or a larger gathering for Sunday brunches. more

Michaelangelo's=BAD SERVICE 1/11/2003

A group of friends and I went in on a Wednesday night with reservations at 7:45. We were not seated until an hour later, and our food was not served until at least an hour after that. Some in our party actually decided to leave before the food arrived because it was taking so long and they had to get back home to their daughter. Needless to say, by the time we were finished it was about 11:00 and we were very UNfashionably late to the party we were supposed to go to afterwards. Although I thought the food was pretty good, it definitely was not worth the incredibly LONG wait. Too bad the tip was already added to the bill. more

Fantastic 1/9/2003

In October, we had our sons rehearsal dinner at Michelangelo's. We used their banquet room and had 30 people present. The service and food were wonderful. Everyone was served so quickly and the food was prepared to perfection. I had more people tell me that it was the best rehearsal dinner they had ever been to. I am so glad we picked this restraunt. We were from out of town and visited restraurants on a weekend and picked it because of the atmosphere and the wonderful smells when we walked in the door. We were so pleased with the service of the waiters, even though we had a bill of $1200.00 we gave them an extra bonus because everything went so well. The wines were also great that we chose. Pros: Food, service, valet parking Cons: a bit crowded more

LOVE IT! 1/6/2003

Just happened to drive by on a December Friday night and they staff was more than willing to accomodate, what a refreshing change! One of the best meals I have had in Houston, quite a suprise. The live music was a real treat. Definitely try the specials. more

Awesome Everything! 12/26/2002

What a wonderful dinner my husband and I had last weekend! I was flabbergasted by the extensive menu, It took me a good 10 minutes just to decide what I wanted. The wine was excellent, our dinners were marvelous and our server was polite and quick. Dessert and coffee topped off the meal wonderfully. Simply the best creme brulee I have had in a while. We will go back to Michaelangelo's most certainly. Pros: Excellent Menu, Quality Food, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Valet Parking Only, Tables very close more

So good! 12/10/2002

This is the best place for its value. Incredibly romantic, great service, and good food. more

My favorite for many reasons. 11/30/2002

Simply the best Italian in Houston and the best service. Sunday brunch is a real treat. Try the veal chop or any of the pastas. The egg dishes on Sunday are to die for. All you can drink Champange on Sunday for $4.95 'till 3pm. We have stayed longer on some Sundays and they just kept pouring. I have held three large party's there ( 40+ people) and everything was perfect every time. Pros: Brunch, Great food, Great service Cons: None more

  • The Scene
From couples to coworkers, multiple generations of Houstonians have passed through Michelangelo's dimly lit dining room. This cozy house with a tree in the middle sets the mood with relaxed decor and satisfying comfort food. Diners wait for tables in a small bar adjacent to the stage. Romantic piano standards drift through the two dining rooms and covered patio. Service is friendly and efficient.

    The Food
Expect a menu of favorites including pasta, seafood, chicken and veal. Tender beef carpaccio is enlivened by Parmesan and pesto. Salads include entree-sized mixed baby greens with orange slices, grilled shrimp and toasted capellini. Beyond familiar pasta options are tortellini di Anitra, duck and spinach tortellini bathed in tart raspberry reduction with Gorgonzola, and linguine nuevo topped with crawfish and zesty vegetables. Grilled lamb chops are artfully prepared with marsala wine sauce, shiitake mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and polenta. The wine list is varied.
