There is no doubt that Mercer has a nice venue, however I have been to my share of lounges/bars and the treatment I received here was by far one of the worst experiences I have had.
A group of 11 college students and myself went for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday. We arrived on Latin Night and felt that we were bound to have an enjoyable time, when in fact it was the adverse effect. To my utter dismay, the lady who was ushering people inside allowed everyone inside expect one of our close friends. Not only that, but 3 of the 8 guys were not allowed entrance merely because they chose to wear colored v-necks and not button downs. She also requested that my friend pay triple the cover fee and it was understood that her sole intent was merely about making a profit and not building clientele. I, for one, am all about customer service. For one disappointed customer (more like eleven), the effects will be tremendous and word of bad service will spread like a grassroots movement. The bouncer was okay with letting us in by paying the average cover charge, however because the lady felt she had the authority to heighten the cover for one of the girl's, that to me was very disappointing.
When I asked to speak with the lady in charge, she denied to speak with me. That is when I decided to leave the club to accompany my friend outside. My advice is that if you want customer service and equal treatment then do not do yourself a disservice and avoid this place. Even the bouncer admitted that it was unfair, but you just have to deal with it. Sadly, I'm not one who takes unequal treatment. Therefore, ruining that one night by resisting to pay heightened charges was was well worth it to me. The city of Houston has a variety of spots to choose from, let this place not be one.
