Best haircuts in town! 6/3/2010

Prior to Boston, a friend of the family always used to cut my hair. We're talking 18 years. When I moved here, I really couldn't find a good stylist so I would save my haircuts for home. One year I decided to donate my hair to Locks of Love. A salon on Newbury St said they'd cut it for free so off it went. Saddest cut ever. Worse than the bowl cut I tried to rock when I was 5. I didn't go to a salon for a looooonnnggg time. After observing some cute cuts at work, I asked where everyone was going. LIQUID they exclaimed! It's been over 2 years and I keep coming back. Katy is my stylist and I adore her. I've got ""uncharacteristic"" wavy Asian hair and she knows just how to cut it. She knows I don't like to spend too much time getting ready, so it's never over styled. She's really great with short cuts and color, but I've sent friends with long hair as well. There's no super easy way to get there. I'll usually walk from Back Bay Station or Copley. You can also take the Silver Line from downtown Boston or Dudley. It's super close to Tremont 647 & Sister Sorel, so you can totally go grab a drink or dinner there afterwards! Pros: Haircuts, wine on Fridays, cute/rockin' hair studio! Cons: Occasionally hard to make an appt more

great haircut 7/22/2009

but...Frank was great. I got chin length sort of wavy hair and he cut it perfectly! Ive only been once, but I'll be back Pros: beautiful courtyard outside Cons: not all the staff seemed the friendliest more

I should've left in the middle of the cut 2/6/2009

Been a few times, the stylist never recognized me any time. The last visit was in November, for a cut and blowdry, which took 1 hour and 45 minutes. The stylist's was coloring her aunt's hair and there were many times I sat with either wet hair, half dried hair, or even half cut hair for many minutes at a time. The stylist had asked many other girls in the shop if they would blowdry my hair, none of whom could, so she had decided that the shop apprentice could do it, telling him to ""just get the moisture out, I'm going to flat iron it"", then telling me how ""lucky"" I was to get a free flat iron (obviously the apprentice, who scooped ice cream for me at JP Licks last summer, was not qualified to do a proper blow-out). The apprentice ended up washing another client's hair so mine was blown dry by another reluctant stylist, then the apprentice was told to begin flat-ironing mine until the aunt's cut was done. The stylist apologized repeatedly for the inconvenience - however, she also qualified that apology each time with ""I feel bad for my aunt, who doesn't like to drive in the snow. I want to get her out of here as soon as possible."" Shall I continue? Two stylists and an apprentice for a cut and blowdry and yet my husband had been waiting for over an hour on their couch. My hair looked terrible, the cut and the style, and when I was paying the owner first told me that I was someone else (No, really, I know who I am, your stylist just took an unbelievably long time to do nothing), then told me I had already paid. WHAT?!? I should've just smile and said, ""Yes, you're right, I owe you nothing!"" and left, however being the honest sap I am I paid AND tipped. And now I'm tipping others - don't bother with these clowns. There are too many salons out there. I found a great stylist at a mid-range chain and I KNOW I didn't need to tolerate that. Cons: Too Many more

Nikki is great! 9/4/2008

I've lived in Boston for about a year now and I?ve walked passed the salon dozens of times but never went in. Finally, after reading some great reviews on Yelp and City Search I decided to give it a try. \r \r Well... I left incredibly satisfied! The salon itself is really funky and the staff added to the eclectic atmosphere. Normally my cuts and salons are more conservative so at first i was a little nervous! But... Nikki took great care in making sure she knew exactly what I wanted. I didn?t feel like she was rushing at all (which often happens considering i have a lot of very thick textured hair) and she was very detailed in her work. She gave me a short stacked hair cut where the locks are longer in front with highlights. I left the salon so pleased! The same day I left the salon, I was stopped twice by complete strangers asking where I got my cut. That says it all to me!\r \r I highly recommend this place and Nikki for a great, reasonably priced cut and/or color. I'm sure you'll leave happy too. more

disappointing, bad haircuts 7/29/2008

I went here for a while. My hair was never cut how I wanted or asked. The cuts were awful looking and poor quality. The stylist was always more interested in what she wanted to do and a ""cookie cutter"" ""trendy"" hair cut than listening to the customer. Completely unresponsive to feedback. Very disappointing. Much better options in the area. Won't go back and would not recommend. Pros: location Cons: really bad haircuts more

You've got to see Megan!!! 8/4/2007

Liquid is a cool place with a fun atmosphere. Megan is their best stylist!!!! She really listens to what you want and is one of the most meticulous hair dressers I have ever been to. Pros: Perfect cut every time Cons: The salon seems to be going up in price more

best haircut ever (thanks Megan!) 11/15/2006

I have crazy hair with multiple textures that no hairstylist I have ever been to knows how to deal with. Until Megan changed all that. Megan was recommended to me by a good friend who has a similar hair texture to (one of!) mine. I had asked my friend where she got her hair cut because it was such a great cut and she obviously was very happy with it having had similar experiences to mine. In general my hair is fairly dry and coarse, but with fine textures mixed in. So I went to Megan. I barely had to tell her what I wanted and she was able to skillfully shape my hair into a manageable, flattering cut. She talked me through the entire thing so that I didn't have to worry that she was running away with my haircut or doing something other than what I wanted (as many of my stylists have done in the past). She was friendly and efficient, but patient when I had questions about products and introduced me to a life saving leave-in conditioner. I am getting ready to make another appointment with her, but I have to say that the cut is so good that it grows in really nicely too. Liquid Hair is an adorable salon with fun decor and really friendly staff. People with all different personal styles get their hair cut and styled there, which is refreshing in a sometimes homogenous-seeming salon world. more

Now I know what ""Hair Cut Trauma"" is 3/20/2006

I went here because of the hype. I like a more ""hip"" approach to styling, and am pretty open to everything. The only restrictions I gave my hairdresser was to keep my bangs longer and to keep them asymmetrical. Long story short ... I went home with the worst haircut I have ever had in my life, my hair had no shape and was definitely not flattering to my face. I've had to fix everything at home. I felt bad, because my stylist was so nice, but as soon as I left I started to cry. I have never cried because of a haircut before. My advice: If you want a ""hip, funky or punky"" hair style be a hairmodel at vidal or umi ... it'll cost you close to nothing and you will have cool hair. This place is so overrated. Pros: Fun, Nice Staff, Good prices Cons: Overrated more

worst hair cut... ever 6/12/2005

It took them only 15 minutes to give me a skanky hairdo that I to have fixed at another salon. Pros: free food, wine Cons: quick and sloppy, uneven, hairdo not as asked more

Fun, Hip, and Down to Earth 6/15/2004

Liked this place. Super cool inside, lots of leapard and the bathroom has an Elvis Shrine. I like that its not snotty and there are a range of stylist with different prices. Cary is very talented as well as Holly. Like that you don't feel like you're on Newbury Street (cause you're not!). Pros: easier to park than , pricing, great attitude Cons: , meters, meters more

The only place I'll go. 2/3/2004

The staff is fun, funny, hip and professional. They're not afraid to try new things, and listen better than any hairdresser I've had. Absolutely the best hair salon I've ever been to. Pros: Staff know-how, Atmosphere, Value more
