Going Downhill 8/25/2010

I used to go to Legal Grounds every day, but I stopped going because the coffee is WAY too acidic and they need to clean their machines or get new ones. Service is uneven and the food has steadily gotten worse over the years. This used to be such a great place, but I won't go back after several bad experiences with coffee and food. more

Hey...what's going on here????? 7/7/2010

I have been a Legal Grounds customer for about 8 years. The food has always been good, and the service is what it is. You come to know it, and I think we all can be a little crazy at times. I does seem to me that the reviews by Favorit Jewlry Lady, sstinchcombe and Lawyer Lady are all written by the same person. Just go have some breakfast, it's same as it every was. more

New Owner=Horrible Food 6/28/2010

Visited 3 times in the past couple of weeks. One was to pick up a grilled cheese for my 4 year old, which is what we've always ordered him in the couple of years we've been going to Legal Grounds. HORRIBLE! It takes work to mess up a grilled cheese sandwich. Breakfast on the weekend was even worse. My favorite, the oatmeal pancakes tasted nothing like they have in the past. I don't think they will survive unless they go back to what this place was known for: GOOD FOOD! I've read a few reviews on how great the new owners are and making reference to how unfriendly the previous owners were. Kinda low... ****Strangely enough, I've noticed that several reviews on various sites of the ""new and improved"" Legal Grounds were written by an older lady (late 40's/early 50's) that was actually WORKING the counter this past weekend---kind of obvious when her picture is right next to the review. That, in itself, should tell us something folks. more

New Owner, Warm Decor & a Whole New Positive Attitude 6/23/2010

What a difference a friendly face and a new coat of paint makes! Wow, visited over the weekend and there is a whole new vibe. It has a cheery interior with artwork by local artists, friendly service and fantastic food. If you are interested in breakfast I highly recommend the banana pancakes, they are so good they don't even need syrup! So glad that the new owner has brought Legal Grounds back to it's roots - one of the best neighborhood spots in the White Rock area! Pros: Great Food & Friendly Neighborhood Spot more

New Paint and New Owners - I like it! 6/22/2010

Went in to Legal Grounds, since we heard it had new owners - and what a surprise! Gone with the baby blue walls - now a warm terra cotta and golden yellow - looks good with the wood! Plus, we got the added color of paintings and pottery by various local artists. And I'm pretty sure everything got a good dusting - it just seemed brighter, cleaner and warmer than before.\r \r Best of all, we were greeted cheerily by the staff, served a good cup of tea and coffee, and had a great, inexpensive and creative breakfast! I think we'll be making this a regular stop instead of once a year now - just alltogether a great ""new"" place for the 'hood. Pros: Welcoming and Friendly - good breakfast spot Cons: sometimes there's a table wait more

New Owner - New Mgmt - New Friendly Attitude 6/20/2010

What a difference a smile makes!! This wonderful neighborhood coffeehouse has been freshly transformed by the new owner and the new management. Still serving great tasting breakfast and lunch and fresh, hot (and iced) coffee, but now with refreshing smiles and greetings for everyone that comes through the door. What else is new: Local artists have their handiwork on display for purchase. Check it all out today and bring your friends and co-workers for a real treat right in the neighborhood!! Pros: Friendly Service, Great Food, Fresh Atmosphere, Neighborhood more

The lady is CRAZY! 10/11/2008

Everyone that is writing about the crazy woman that works there is SOOOO right! It's funny actually how totally psycho this woman acts. I recommend going to the restuarant how ever because I LOVE the entertainment that comes for free with the meal. Just don't take it personally...unless her aggression is directed towards you, of course. I went in for breakfast this morning and I was actually disappointed that I didn't see the train-wreck there. Maybe I should have gone in earlier! more

THE RUDEST PLACE I EVER VISIT! 6/1/2008

I went to this place for the FIRST time today since I heard so much about it. The young lady who I assume is the daughter was the RUDEST person I have ever met. The children cup they gave us accidentally fell on the floor and cracked (filled with water) The young blonde BARKED at us and told us to CLEAN IT UP. Which we were doing with the cheap napkins they had at the table. After being YELLED at and she was calling us names to other customers we decided to get out of there when we left we said we hope you have a better day and have a nice life she yelled at us WITH OUR KIDS to ""DROP DEAD"" NEVER IN OUR LIFE DID WE EVER THINK SOMEONE COULD BE SO MEAN AND HORRIBLE AND SAY SOMETHING SO MEAN IN FRONT OF YOUNG KIDS. \r PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS AWFUL PLACE IF YOU HAVE KIDS- THE COFFEE AND FOOD ISN'T THAT GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: NONE!!!!! Cons: THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE CUSS IN FRONT OF KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Rude and Moody Customer Service 6/1/2008

My husband and I have frequented this yummy breakfast spot since 1999. As always, the food has been really great. This last year or so, however, the owner's daughter has been running the show and her mouth. She is always bitter, and to say the least ,we would not return if it weren't for the atmosphere and good memories. She has cursed and been belligerent, and frankly, we have decided that in front or our kids this is not a place to come for friendly family service. The food is not worth it. Sorry to say that the good old days are gone. Pros: good food, nice ambience Cons: rude and abusive service, don't expect to stay long without being hurried out more

Coffee shop by day, Greek restaurant by night... cant beat that! 4/21/2008

I cant even begin to explain how this place has changed my life. Your first visit will be a conversion experience. First of all, the owner (or the ""rude lady"" as was she was so distastefully called by another reviewer) is actually a really really friendly and talkative person. Going to legal grounds is like going to a secret club. If you dont know the protocol, expect to get reamed a new one, but if you follow protocol (i.e. know what you want, order it, pay for it, then find your seat) you wont get yelled at. Thats right, you have to order your food before you can sit down at a table (when the store is full). If you dont, the coffee gnomes will oust you from your seat, even if you try to ""save"" a table. Any way, the food is wonderful... I love the prom cakes. The coffee isnt burnt like that other place, what do they call it? Starcraps? Oh, no, $tarbucks. And you cant beat the atmosphere. Friendly people, friendly staff, stomach-friendly food... you cant beat it. Give it a try! and if you are not satisfied the first time, go back for a second visit and you will be... Trust me. Pros: Atmosphere; food; coffee; prom cakes Cons: they hate when you use your credit card for a $1 something purchase more

Best Breakfast Sandwich in Town! 4/19/2008

This is a great independent coffee shop! Not like your run-of-the-mill coffee chain! Perfect place to catch up with friends, solve the worlds problems, or read the morning paper. They even have kids cups for the little ones. Excellent coffee and breakfast choices. The breakfast sandwich is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with the pancakes. As for the lady the previous reviewer made mention of, that is her ""shtick."" She is totally cool! No offense, but the previous reviewer just didn't get it. When you arrive be prepared to step up to the counter and order, for there's no time for small talk! Chances are, there will be people in line behind you and you'll be looking to spot that newly cleared table anyway, as it can get crowded on the weekends. Pros: Great Food & Great Coffee Cons: Can get crowded on Weekends - but that's part of the experience more

Rude, insulting and downright ugly! 1/22/2008

I recently visited Legal Grounds for breakfast and the women at the counter has a serious attitude. She gave me the most rude and ridiculously unfriendly service I've ever received. I'm not talking no eye contact, no smiling kind of rude, I'm talking downright angy, mad, bad attitude, in your face, confrontational rude.\r \r If you want rude service and feel like being insulted - please go here! If I could give it no stars, I would have. Pros: Good food. Cons: Rude service. more
