Mo is wonderful! The food is great. If you're going at night, be prepared for it to be loud and fun :-) In fact, I would suggest only going at night, and with a big group! You...

Great Food! Great Fun! 9/25/2005

Mo' better food, mo' better fun and a mo' better dining experience. Mo Girgis and his wife, Seham, offer a delightfully authentic Egyptian menu in the most unlikely of places, south Knoxville. In a region known for its cheese grits and red eye gravy, the tiny unpretentious block building that houses King Tut's is surprisingly stuffed with Middle Eastern fare. Egyptian specialties include a nicely spiced Baba Ghannoug and a deliciously irresistible hummus both served with freshly baked pita bread Or try the Greek salad, which includes the basics plus tangy feta cheese, hard-boiled egg, olives and a few pepperocini thrown in for good measure. Entrees include the falafel and the foule mudammas sandwich. For the vegans in the crowd, Mo will subtract the yogurt sauce and add some spicy Egyptian salad. If you like the kick of the salad, you can order it as a side to go with your sandwich - it has a nice bite with lots of fresh tomatoes for balance. For the less adventuresome, diners can choose from a basic American menu offering such Southern favorites as meatloaf and fried okra. And for good measure, ice tea and soda are served in huge flower vases. You won’t need a refill. Bring your own bottle but don’t expect matching wine glasses. The charm of this establishment is in its eclectic nature. Mo does his best to entertain his patrons with jokes, karaoke and even puzzles. If you’re lucky, you might even get to hear your host sing. more

The BEST Greek food in knoxville 8/25/2005

Mo and Salem have creatyed a fantastic place. The egyptian sampler or the greek salad is the recommended first try here. Be forewarned this place is in a "depressed" area and the building will scare you away. Don't let it. Ssome of the best food I have had anywhere. On a scale of one to ten it is a fifiteen for food. The atmosphere is classic - and it is so fun that our kids LOVE to go there. They say it is one of their faves and it is hard to get kids to like greek food, yo know? Greek salad, Egyptian sampler or the special (whatever it may be). Talk to Mo ( the owner) and ask questions, you won't be disappointed. more

King Tut's Grill 8/19/2005

I’m not sure I can do justice to this unique restaurant. King Tut’s Grill offers great food and entertainment. The proprietor has a lot of character and is very outgoing. He tells jokes and hosts karaoke several nights a week. Water is served in large flower vases. Photos of patrons cover the menu and paraphernalia covers the walls. The menu is nominally Egyptian, but also offers some more American options. more

Seems to be a Local Favorite Hangout 8/16/2005

King Tut's is a small hole in the wall restaurant off of Martin Mill Pk. Eclectic is definitely the word for this quirky place. This is one of those places you just need to visit to appreciate. It is not far from downtown and convenient to Chapman Hwy. If you are having a gathering here, call first to make sure they will be open & will have space for you. Try the lamb. more
