Cornell's Musuem of Art 9/7/2005

The Johnson Museum is a great place to go on a weekend trip or when you have a few free hours. Whether you are a Cornell student, an Ithaca resident, or tourist, there is something for you. The museum has many exhibits and has special ones all the time. Once can go just for fun, but there are many educational opportunities available. The museum also does workshops and other special events. If for nothing else, go to the Johnson Museum to take advantage of the spectacular view of Cornell and the surrounding Ithaca area. For Cornell students, I would highly recommend visiting the museum at least once during your tenure at the unversity. For others, also a great place to take advantage of if y ou are in the area. more

What a GREAT View 8/16/2005

The Johson Museum of Art is one of those places that one can wander in for an hour and not feel rushed or distracted by crowds, but actually have the time and presence to enjoy what one is discovering. There are changing/interesting/modern/sometimes weird exhibits on the bottom floor. The Museum's permanent collections are especially strong in Asian art, nineteenth and twentieth-century American art, and the graphic arts. I personally enjoy a small rotating gallery of prints and etchings on the second floor. The building itself is really cool and was designed by the architect I.M. Pei. There is a fantastic 360-degree view of Cayuga Lake and the surrounding Cornell University community on the top floor. If you see nothing else in the Museum, at least get to the top and look out. There is a small coffee shop on the entrance floor and a little museum shop that carries some interesting items (usually pertaining to the museum's current exhibits) as well as a nice collection of cards. more

Small museum that is good for a day tour. 8/14/2005

The Johnson Museum is located on the Cornell campus. It is free to visitors so feel free to make it an educational day trip for your kids. The museum houses many art pieces acquired by the university. They have different displays that are available for the public during different times of the year. These traveling art pieces are rather amazing. The museum also has artwork that is displayed throughout the year that would provide good teaching material for young artists. more
