Best

This is one of the most consistently great restaurants in Houston. The shrimp gumbo is some of the best I have eaten. If you're in the mood for fish - try the pecan crusted trout ...

The seafood gumbo was probably the one of the best I've ever had. As a native of southern Louisiana and an avid cook, I have high standards for gumbo, and this was surprisingly perfect. Dark and velvety with perfectly cooked shrimp and huge lumps of crabmeat. I can't stop thinking about this gumbo..... more

Dinner on Saturday evening.. I was surprised it was not crowded. Decor was simple and CLEAN. Waiter was engaging and even exchanged my seafood gumbo ( not on target that nite) for the Chicken and sausage gumbo that was to-die-for! So smokey and good with BIG chunks of chicken and sausage. It was labor day weekend and we had the 15 (HUGE BUTTERFLIED) shrimp special. YUMM-MEE!!! Needless to say--we'll be back. more

Strange how experiences differ. Came in sat at bar/table. The tray of garlic bread wash all one would need to live ( I mean garlic bread is garlic bread, but very good) Shrimp was good, as expected in Gul Coast. Spicy wings were HUGE with a slightly sweet adaquately spicy taste. I can judge a joint by the wings. Will return to get into the good stuff more

Let me first say, I lived in New Orleans the majority of my life, and have eaten more than perhaps I should admit throughout S. Louisiana. The food I ate here was excellent! Oysters, garlic bread, seafood gumbo ( and I am not bragging, but I know gumbo) lump crab meat salad, boudin and stuffed jalepenos All great!!! more

I ate here a bunch of times back when I lived in Houston, and have probably eaten here two dozen times within minutes of landing at IAH. I was back in town last week and met up with a buddy. The raw oysters were OK (to be fair raw oysters are not my thing), the grilled oysters were out of this world (they are always excellent), the boiled crayfish were very good, and the redfish with Pontchartrain sauce was excellent. more

Very cozy looking outside, fairly classy looking inside. But quite comfortable. Very pleasing service. Great menu. more

This is just a wonderful restaurant. I've been coming here for years, often from all the way across town. It's hard to list all the best dishes - just read the menu! Still, some personal favorites that I've recommended with great success over and over again: The chicken and sausage gumbo, the barbecued oysters, the shrimp embrochette, and any of the fish specials on any day. more

Food was excellent! Went at lunch a few times and will definitly go again. Sat at the bar area and bartenders were very nice and very fast at getting your order out and making sure it was correct. One of the best seafood houses i've been to in a long time. Ambiance was nice, very large and open place. more

We stopped here on our way to San Antonio. We all loved our food. The foods we ordered: oysters on the halfshell, salads, fried chicken, loaded baked potato and shrimp. Everything was really good and I would say it's a great place for people of all ages. more

Horrible First Experience 2/10/2012

Went for lunch today, horrible experience! Found dirty chair when i went to sit down, waitress was there and took credit for the filthiness and asked for me to excuse it. Waitress explained specials, one with blackened redfish with crawfish topping and side of etouffe, sounded good, so ordered that. When it was being set on the table i could smell an excessive fishy smell, like not fresh smell. Also found out that they were out of etouffe and they chose to replace with runny mash potatoes. Total all around fail in every aspect of the visit. Told Manager, went in one ear and out the other. She ran away after we told her. more

Best Seafood In Houston 12/7/2011

This is one of the most consistently great restaurants in Houston. The shrimp gumbo is some of the best I have eaten. If you're in the mood for fish - try the pecan crusted trout - sensational! I like the dish with the roasted potatoes & onions. Also great service. Get there early during the lunch hour as they get very busy with all the business people in the area eating there. You won't be dissappointed! more

How did this win Best of anything? 4/20/2011

This place is disgusting. The two times I have been there, the bar and the restaurant are dirty. The food is highly overrated, its hard to screw up oysters. The manager Jody, is a dick. He is unhelpful, and only seems to care about putting in his 8 hours. There are 9000 restaurants to choose from in Houston....pass on this one. more

Near the Airport? 5/4/2009

I don't eat dinner here. Service is eeeh. What I do like to do is; stop here before I go to Intercontinental Airport and eat grilled oysters at their bar.. They are really good. Their grill is right in front of you and you watch them put oysters in the half shell on the grill and douse them with butter, lemons, garlic and herbs. Damn they're good. the place isn't fancy at all. Wear jeans. Pros: Grilled oysters Cons: Dinner more

Fun place and top quality seafood! 9/19/2007

Great environment. Super service. Pros: Raw Oysters Cons: Far from my house more

Best Seafood ever. Crawfish are spectacular. Great customer service! 8/25/2007

Great food and great staff. Chef Louie and the crew are great. Had many great times there. Too bad we live in Chicagoland. do want to move to Houston soon. Great town! Want to be near to Jimmy G's. Pros: Always treated properly more

Great Service and Seafood 6/10/2007

My wife and I had just returned from vacation to IAH and decided to stop for dinner at Jimmy G's. We sat at the bar and shared the grilled oysters which were outstanding. We almost ordered more! My wife had the Crab Maison Salad and I had the Grilled Pecan Trout. The food and service were great! We shall stop here again when on this side of town. more

GREAT FOOD and Friendly service at the BAR 8/9/2006

I have been to Jimmy G's for years. I usually dont write reviews but this is one of my favorite places to eat if you are a seafood lover like me. They make the best boil crawfish i have found yet in houston. The grilled oysters are to die for! Over all the menu is exellent no matter what you eat. I always take peoples advice when they write a review and i hope you if you read this one then you will give this a try! I know im glad i did! Pros: Great food and Nice Service Cons: so far from where i live but other wise nothing! more

Excellent Seafood 11/15/2005

Having lived in New Orleans for sometime I tried many seafood places. I had to relocate to Houston due to Hurricane Katrina and tried this place because it was close by. This place has better seafood than the whole of New Orleans. Oyster bar with raw or grilled oysters with crabmeat (better than Drago's), huge shrimp (boiled, grilled and fried), fresh vegetables, courteous staff, large portions for the price. Excellent place, you will not be disappointed. Pros: Large portions, Courteous staff more

we drive out of our way...... 9/1/2002

To eat here when we are passing through Houston. The Pompano (seasonally available) is superb, surpassed only by the blackened Mahi or Amberjack. Excellent wait staff, especially Jeff. An excellent ""early supper"" establishment, with generous portions. A HIT! Pros: Food,, Service, good parking Cons: location; out of the, way more
