not recommended and on 1/9/09 there was a gunfire outside the bar. 12/1/2008

This is not an Irish Pub anymore, it's a crappy college bar that's trying to be a night club. I only went here once and it was too loud to talk inside. When I went to get some fresh air I was greeted by the smell of up-chuck and urine, as some of the patrons don't know how to use the bathroom. It was gross and there are better places to get a drink or go dancing with friends. \r \r (Added to the review at later date) And to top it off on 1/9/09 there were shots fired outside the bar. Go to this place at your own risk. I hope they shut it down, it's not safe. more

Bad customer service 11/26/2008

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE ... something like this could happen to you.\r \r i got kicked out and they (security ppl, owner) would not escort me back in to get my coat and grab my friends to leave. i ended up walking home alone at 12:30am in the university district where I could have been robbed and other stuff they won't let me list on here. all i had on me were my keys and my id b/c my cell and money was in my coat. \r \r most places would allow you to get your stuff. this says a lot about their customer service. they don't care about what happens to the people who go to their establishment. the owner said, ""I don't care, you bought drinks from us and that's all i care about.""\r \r moral of the story: they don't care about you so why should you care enough to go to this place. I know i'm never going to this place again. Cons: the owner was unreasonable and they provide bad customer service more

Terrible. 11/20/2008

To put it bluntly, the Irish Emigrant is a terrible bar. What was once a beautiful neighborhood Irish pub has transformed itself into something completely different under its new management. It's more of a nightclub now, than anything else. Gone is the quaint Irish band that sat in the booth near the entrance playing their violins. They have been replaced by bartenders that spin bottles and cocktail shakers. I swear I saw a velvet rope outside the bar one night.\r \r I didn't realize this place had changed, and brought some friends one night. It was actually embarrassing.\r \r This is a terrible bar, even by the Ave's standards. I'd actually prefer to go to Earl's... That's something I never thought I'd say. Pros: Next to several bars that are more fun. Cons: bad atmosphere, terrible service, NOT AN IRISH PUB. more

No longer an Irish bar 7/12/2008

The review of this bar and the Galway Arms across the street are dated and irrelevant- both bars have new ownership and are simply not Irish bars anymore witht the exception of the old signage and decor. This is simply a college bar and not a bad one. The Galway has got a rough, death metal feel and is a scene to be avoided. Pros: Neighborhood pub, local bands Cons: Gone is the traditional Irish pub feel more

Lots of Irish fun 3/17/2006

Imagine an Irish bar with a REAL Irish staff. The waitress lasses are efficient and courteous. The mainly pub fare menu has some authentic Irish dishes. Excellent rock & Top 40 bands on the weekends complement their weekday fare from karaoke to DJ's to live Irish music. Cool upstairs outdoor patio where smoking is allowed! Pros: Authentic, Raucous, Great music Cons: Parking more

Rude bartender 11/12/2005

Last night, I was taking a girlfriend out on her 24th birthday and we decided to go to the Emigrant to get their birthday t-shirt and have a good time. The bartender working around midnight there was EXTREMELY rude - I came up to the bar and said ""it's my friend's birthday!"" and was about to order a t-shirt when he interrupts me and says ""I don't care. What do you want? Nothing? Okay"" and then completely ignores us. I was really surprised b/c I usually have a good time there with friends, but that was uncalled for and makes me not want to go back. more

Depending on the night the Immigrant is extremely busy, but always has a great vibe and you can always find a spot to chill with a group and talk to new people. It is definately a college place so if you have been out of school for a couple of years its probably not the best place. more

Oh, but for the good ol' days... 4/19/2003

It was bound to happen. The Ave's best kept secret was found out by the racous frat/sorority crowds, and now the echanting tavern is packed full of muscle bound/bleach-blond co-eds nightly. Thankfully, that hasn't stopped The Emigrant from continuing their winning formula: excellent Irish music, local bands, rowdy trivia nights, attention to service, decent pub food and generous helpings of true Irish comraderie. A better after work bar you won't find, and when you're looking to throw back some pints with your pals or drown the memory of that one that got away, the Irish have all the answers. Pros: great service, lively tavern, authentically Irish Cons: collegiately crowded, sometimes smokey more

Yuppie Central 3/1/2003

Crowded college bar. If you have ever been to Ireland you would be very disappointed with this place. more

The Ave's little secret 7/11/2002

This place is unlike any other bar in the u-district. A great atmosphere due to the amazing staff, some of the best food around, and of course the wide selection of beers on tap. Greatl live music almost every night and outdoor patio seating just in time for the summer! What more could you want? more
